1 Umkhuleko kaMosi umuntu kaNkulunkulu. Thixo, wena ulikhaya lethu kuzozonke izizukulwane.
A prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, you have been our refuge throughout all generations.
2 Izintaba zingakabikhona lalapho ungakawuvezi umhlaba kanye lelizwe, kusukela phakade kuze kube phakade unguNkulunkulu.
Before the mountains were formed, or you formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.
3 Ubuyisela abantu ethulini, usithi, “Buyelani othulini, lina madodana abantu.”
You return man to dust, and you say, “Return, you descendants of mankind.”
4 Ngoba iminyaka eyinkulungwane ekuboneni kwakho injengosuku olusanda kudlula, kumbe njengomlindo webusuku.
For a thousand years in your sight are as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.
5 Uyabakhucula abantu ebuthongweni bokufa; banjengotshani obutsha obekuseni
You sweep them away as with a flood and they sleep; in the morning they are like the grass that sprouts up.
6 lokuba ekuseni buhluma bubutsha, kuthi ntambama sebomile sebubunile.
In the morning it blooms and grows up; in the evening it withers and dries up.
7 Ulaka lwakho luyasitshabalalisa sithuthumeliswe yikucaphuka kwakho.
Truly, we are consumed in your anger, and in your wrath we are terrified.
8 Usubuchayile ububi bethu phambi kwakho, izono zethu zensitha wazichaya ekukhanyeni kobukhona bakho.
You have set our iniquities before you, our hidden sins in the light of your presence.
9 Zonke insuku zethu ziyedlula ngaphansi kolaka lwakho; leminyaka yethu siyiphetha ngokububula.
Our life passes away under your wrath; our years quickly pass like a sigh.
10 Ubude bezinsuku zethu buyiminyaka engamatshumi ayisikhombisa loba amatshumi ayisificaminwembili, nxa silamandla; kanti lelobanga layo liluhlupho losizi, ngoba iphanga yedlule, lathi siphaphe nje sedlule.
Our years are seventy, or even eighty if we are healthy; but even our best years are marked by trouble and sorrow. Yes, they pass quickly, and we fly away.
11 Ngubani owaziyo amandla olaka lwakho na? Ngoba intukuthelo yakho inkulu njengokwesatshwa okukufaneleyo.
Who knows the intensity of your anger, and your wrath that is equal to the fear of you?
12 Sifundise ukubala kuhle insuku zethu, ukuze sizuze inhliziyo yenhlakanipho.
So teach us to consider our life so that we might live wisely.
13 Phola, Oh Thixo! Koze kube nini kulokhu kunjalo na? Woba lesihawu ezincekwini zakho.
Turn back, Yahweh! How long will it be? Have pity on your servants.
14 Sisuthise ekuseni ngothando lwakho olungaphuthiyo, ukuze sihlabelele ngentokozo sijabule zonke insuku zethu.
Satisfy us in the morning with your covenant faithfulness so that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
15 Senze sijabule okwensuku ezilingana ukusihlupha kwakho, okwensuku ezilingana lalezo esesabona ngazo ukudubeka.
Make us glad in proportion to the days you afflicted us and to the years we have experienced trouble.
16 Sengathi imisebenzi yakho ingatshengiswa ezincekwini zakho, inkazimulo yakho ebantwaneni babo.
Let your servants see your work, and let our children see your majesty.
17 Sengathi umusa weNkosi uNkulunkulu wethu ungehlela kithi; uqinise umsebenzi wezandla zethu yebo, qinisa umsebenzi wezandla zethu.
May the favor of the Lord our God be ours; prosper the work of our hands; indeed, prosper the work of our hands.
