Luke 1
1 Inasmuch as many have undertaken to arrange a narrative of those things which are fully believed among us,
Оскільки багато хто вже намагався скласти розповідь про події, які сталися між нами,
2 even as they were delivered to us by those who were eye-witnesses from the beginning and became ministers of the word,
у такий спосіб, як їх передали нам люди, що від самого початку були свідками й котрі стали служителями Слова,
3 it seemed good to me also, having accurately traced up all things from the first, to write to thee a connected account, most excellent Theophilus,
то і я вирішив, дослідивши все ретельно від самого початку, написати тобі, поважний Теофіле, усе послідовно,
4 that thou mightst know the exact truth with regard to those things in which thou wast instructed.
щоб ти міг досконало пізнати достовірність слів, яких був навчений.
5 There was in the days of Herod, king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zachariah, of the course of Abijah; and he had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
За днів Ірода, царя Юдеї, був один священник, на ім’я Захарія, із черги Авія, та його дружина, на ім’я Єлизавета, одна з дочок Аарона.
6 And they were both righteous in the sight of God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
Вони обоє були праведні перед Богом, бездоганно виконуючи всі заповіді та настанови Господа.
7 And they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both far advanced in years.
У них не було дітей, бо Єлизавета була безплідна, і обоє були похилого віку.
8 And it came to pass, that, while he was serving as priest before God in the order of his course,
Одного разу, коли [Захарія] за порядком своєї черги служив перед Богом,
9 according to the custom of the priesthood the lot fell to him to go into the temple of the Lord and burn the incense.
згідно зі звичаєм священства, випало йому через жереб зайти до Храму Господнього та кадити.
10 And the whole multitude of the people was praying without at the time of the incense.
Усе зібрання народу молилося зовні, коли прийшов час кадити.
11 And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord, standing on the right of the altar of incense.
Тоді ангел Господній з’явився перед ним, стоячи з правого боку жертовника для кадіння.
12 And Zachariah was troubled at the sight, and fear fell upon him.
Коли Захарія побачив його, то жахнувся, і страх охопив його.
13 But the angel said to him, Fear not, Zachariah; for thy prayer was heard, and thy wife Elizabeth shall bear thee a son; and thou shalt call his name John.
Але ангел сказав йому: ―Не бійся, Захаріє, твоя молитва почута! Твоя дружина Єлизавета народить тобі сина, і назвеш його Іван.
14 And thou wilt have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice for his birth.
Ти будеш радісним та щасливим, і багато хто радітиме його народженню.
15 For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; and will drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit from his very birth.
Він буде великий перед Господом, вина та міцного напою не питиме; і Дух Святий наповнить його ще з лона його матері.
16 And many of the sons of Israel will he turn to the Lord their God.
І багатьох синів Ізраїлю він наверне до Господа Бога свого.
17 And he will go before his face in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of fathers to children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to make ready for the Lord a prepared people.
Він ітиме перед Ним у дусі й силі Іллі, наверне серця батьків до дітей та непокірних до мудрості праведних, щоб підготувати народ до приходу Господа.
18 And Zachariah said to the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife is far advanced in years.
Захарія відповів ангелу: ―Як я дізнаюся про це? Я вже старий, і дружина моя в похилих літах.
19 And the angel answering said to him, I am Gabriel, who stand in the presence of God; and I was sent to speak to thee, and to tell thee these glad tidings.
Ангел у відповідь сказав йому: ―Я Гавриїл, що стою перед Богом, і мене послано сказати тобі цю добру звістку,
20 And lo! thou shalt be silent, and not able to speak, until the day when these things shall come to pass, because thou didst not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their season.
але тепер ти будеш мовчати й не зможеш говорити до дня, коли все це станеться, бо ти не повірив моїм словам, котрі здійсняться свого часу!
21 And the people were looking for Zachariah, and wondering that he remained so long in the temple.
Народ же чекав на Захарію та дивувався, чому він затримується в Храмі.
22 And on coming out, he was not able to speak to them; and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple; and he was beckoning to them, and remained speechless.
Коли ж він вийшов, то вже не міг говорити, і всі зрозуміли, що в Храмі він бачив видіння. [Захарія] звертався до них знаками та залишався німим.
23 And it came to pass, when the days of his ministration were completed, that he returned to his house.
Після закінчення днів його служіння, він повернувся додому.
24 And after those days his wife Elizabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,
Невдовзі після цього Єлизавета, його дружина, завагітніла й п’ять місяців ховалася, кажучи:
25 Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me to take away my reproach among men.
«Ось що для мене зробив Господь у ці дні, коли зглянувся, щоб зняти ганьбу мою між людьми».
26 And in her sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee, called Nazareth,
Шостого місяця Бог надіслав ангела Гавриїла в галілейське місто, яке називалося Назарет,
27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
до діви, що була заручена з чоловіком, на ім’я Йосиф, з дому Давида. Ім’я діви було Марія.
28 And the angel came in to her and said, Hail, thou that art highly favored! the Lord is with thee.
Прийшовши до неї, ангел промовив: ―Радій, та, що отримала благодать! Господь із тобою! Благословенна ти між жінками.
29 And she was troubled at the words, and was considering what this salutation could mean.
Ці слова здивували її, і вона почала роздумувати, що може означати це привітання.
30 And the angel said to her, Fear not, Mary; for thou hast found favor with God.
Ангел відповів їй: ―Не бійся, Маріє, бо ти знайшла благодать у Бога.
31 And lo! thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and hear a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.
Ось завагітнієш та народиш Сина, і назвеш Його Ісус.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of David his father;
Він буде великий, і Його називатимуть Сином Всевишнього. Господь Бог дасть Йому престол Давида, батька Його.
33 and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. (aiōn g165)
Він царюватиме над домом Якова повіки, і Його Царству не буде кінця. (aiōn g165)
34 Then said Mary to the angel, How shall this be, since I know not a man?
Марія відповіла ангелу: ―Як же це станеться, якщо я не була з чоловіком?
35 And the angel answering said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon thee, and the power of the Most High will overshadow thee; wherefore the holy one that is to be born will be called the Son of God.
У відповідь ангел сказав: ―Дух Святий зійде на тебе, і сила Всевишнього обгорне тебе, тому Святий, Який народиться, назветься Сином Божим.
36 And lo! Elizabeth, thy kinswoman, she also hath conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her who is called barren.
Ось Єлизавета, твоя родичка, завагітніла у своїй старості й чекає на сина; і оце вже шостий місяць тій, що її звуть безплідною,
37 For nothing will be impossible with God.
бо у Бога ніяке слово не буває безсилим.
38 And Mary said, Lo, the handmaid of the Lord! May it be to me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
Марія відповіла: ―Ось я, раба Господня, нехай усе станеться за словом твоїм. І ангел відійшов від неї.
39 And Mary arose and went in those days into the hill-country with haste, into a city of Judah.
Тими днями Марія зібралася й пішла, поспішаючи, у гірську околицю, в одне з міст Юдиних.
40 And she entered the house of Zachariah, and saluted Elizabeth.
Вона зайшла в дім Захарії і привітала Єлизавету.
41 And it came to pass, when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit,
Коли Єлизавета почула привітання Марії, то дитя в її лоні заворушилося від радості, а Єлизавета наповнилася Духом Святим.
42 and cried out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women; and blessed is the fruit of thy womb!
Вона голосно промовила: ―Благословенна ти між жінками, і благословенна Дитина, Яку ти народиш!
43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
І звідкіля мені це, що мати Господа мого прийшла до мене?
44 For lo! as soon as the voice of thy salutation came to my ears, the babe leaped in my womb in exultation.
Як тільки я почула голос твого привітання, дитина в моєму лоні заворушилася від радості.
45 And blessed is she who hath believed that there will be an accomplishment of those things which were told her from the Lord.
Блаженна та, яка повірила, що здійсниться все сказане їй від Господа!
46 And Mary said, My soul magnifieth the Lord,
І сказала Марія: «Величає душа моя Господа,
47 and my spirit hath exulted in God my Saviour;
та радіє дух мій у Бозі, Спасителі моєму,
48 for he hath looked upon the low estate of his handmaiden. For lo! from this time all generations will call me blessed;
бо зглянувся Він на покору раби Своєї. Ось чому віднині всі покоління називатимуть мене блаженною,
49 for the Mighty One hath done great things for me; and holy is his name;
бо велике вчинив мені Всемогутній. Святе ім’я Його!
50 and his mercy is from generation to generation on them that fear him.
Милість Свою Він [показує] з роду в рід тим, хто боїться Його.
51 He hath wrought mightily with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the device of their heart.
Він зробив велику справу Своєю рукою, розсіяв гордих у думках сердець їхніх.
52 He hath cast down princes from thrones, and exalted men of low degree.
Скинув сильних з престолу та підняв принижених.
53 The hungry he hath filled with good things, and the rich he hath sent away empty.
Голодних нагодував благами, а заможних відіслав ні з чим.
54 He hath given help to Israel his servant, in remembrance of his mercy
Допоміг Ізраїлеві, слузі Своєму, згадавши милість,
так, як обіцяв батькам нашим, Авраамові та нащадкам його повіки!» (aiōn g165)
56 And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.
Марія залишилася з Єлизаветою три місяці, а потім повернулася до себе додому.
57 Now Elizabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
Коли настав час, Єлизавета народила сина.
58 And her neighbors and her kinsfolk heard that the Lord had showed great mercy toward her; and they rejoiced with her.
І почули сусіди та родичі, що Господь проявив Свою велику милість до неї, та раділи разом із нею.
59 And it came to pass that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they were about to call him Zachariah, after the name of his father.
Восьмого дня, коли прийшли обрізати немовля, хотіли назвати його ім’ям батька – Захарія.
60 And his mother answering said, Not so; but he shall be called John.
Але мати його відповіла: ―Ні! Він буде називатися Іван.
61 And they said to her, There is no one of thy kindred that is called by this name.
А вони сказали їй: ―У твоїй родині немає нікого, названого таким ім’ям.
62 And they made signs to his father, how he would have him named.
Знаками запитали його батька, як він бажає його назвати.
63 And he asked for a writing-tablet, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they all marveled.
Він попросив дощечку для запису та написав: «Його ім’я – Іван!» І всі дивувалися.
64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue was loosed; and he spoke, blessing God.
Тієї ж миті відкрилися його вуста: він почав говорити, благословляючи Бога.
65 And fear came on all that dwelt around them; and all these things were talked of throughout the whole of the hill-country of Judaea.
І страх охопив усіх сусідів, і всюди в гірській частині Юдеї говорили про ці події.
66 And all that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What then will this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.
Кожен, хто чув це, говорив у своєму серці: «Ким же стане це дитя?» Бо рука Господа була з ним.
67 And Zachariah his father was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying,
Захарія, батько його, наповнився Духом Святим і почав пророкувати:
68 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel! for he hath visited and redeemed his people,
«Благословен Господь, Бог Ізраїлю, бо прийшов Він на допомогу та визволив народ Свій.
69 and hath raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of David his servant, —
Він підняв нам ріг спасіння у домі Давида, слуги Свого,
як заповів колись у давнину через вуста Своїх святих пророків, (aiōn g165)
71 salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us,
що визволить нас від ворогів наших та від усіх, хто ненавидить нас.
72 to accomplish his mercy toward our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant,
Він проявив милість до батьків наших, пам’ятаючи про Свій святий заповіт,
73 the oath which he swore to Abraham our father,
обітницю, яку Він дав нашому батькові Аврааму, –
74 to grant to us, that being delivered from the hand of our enemies, we might worship him without fear,
визволити нас від руки ворогів, щоб ми служили Йому без страху
75 in holiness and righteousness before him, all our days.
у святості й праведності перед лицем Його в усі дні наші.
76 And thou, child, shalt be called a prophet of the Most High; for thou shalt go in advance before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways,
І ти, дитино, назвешся пророком Всевишнього, бо йтимеш перед Господом, готуючи шляхи Йому,
77 to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the remission of their sins
щоб дати пізнання спасіння народові Його, через прощення гріхів їхніх.
78 through the tender mercy of our God, whereby the day-spring from on high hath visited us,
Через велику милість Бога нашого, з якою прийде нам на допомогу, як Вранішня Зоря з висоти,
79 to give light to those sitting in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
щоб засіяти над тими, що живуть у темряві й у тіні смерті, спрямовуючи наші кроки на шлях миру».
80 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit; and was in the deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel.
Дитина ж росла та зміцнювалась духом і перебувала в пустелі до дня, коли з’явилася перед Ізраїлем.
