1 Слова Лемуїла, царя Масси́, що ними навчала його його мати:
The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.
2 „Що, сину мій, і що, сину утро́би моєї, і що, сину обі́тниць моїх?
What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?
3 Не давай жінкам сили своєї, ні доріг своїх для руйнува́льниць царів!
Give not thy strength to women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
4 Не царя́м, Лемуїле, вино, не царям, і на́пій той п'янки́й не князя́м,
[It is] not for kings, O Lemuel, [it is] not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
5 щоб не впився він та не забув про Зако́на, і щоб не змінив для всіх гно́блених пра́ва!
Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.
6 Дайте напо́ю п'янко́го тому, хто гине, а вина — гіркоду́хим:
Give strong drink to him that is ready to perish, and wine to those that are of heavy hearts.
7 він вип'є й забуде за бідність свою, і му́ки своєї вже не пам'ята́тиме!
Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
8 Відкривай свої уста немо́ві, для суда́ всім нещасним.
Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.
9 Відкрива́й свої уста, й суди справедливо, і правосу́ддя зроби для убогого та для нужде́нного.
Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.
10 Хто жінку чесно́тну зна́йде? а ціна її більша від пе́рел:
Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price [is] far above rubies.
11 довіря́є їй серце її чоловіка, і йому не забра́кне прибутку!
The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
12 Вона чинить для нього добро, а не зло, по всі́ дні свого життя.
She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
13 Шукає вона вовни й льо́ну, і робить охоче своїми руками.
She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
14 Вона, немов кораблі́ ті купе́цькі, здале́ка спроваджує хліб свій.
She is like the merchant's ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
15 І встане вона ще вночі, і видасть для дому свого поживу, а поря́док служни́цям своїм.
She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth food to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
16 Про поле вона намишляла, і його набула́, із пло́ду долоней своїх засадила вона виноградинка.
She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
17 Вона підпері́зує силою сте́гна свої та зміцня́є раме́на свої.
She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
18 Вона розуміє, що добра робота її, і світильник її не пога́сне вночі.
She perceiveth that her merchandise [is] good: her candle goeth not out by night.
19 Вона ру́ки свої простя́гає до пря́дки, а долоні її верете́но тримають.
She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
20 Долоню свою відкриває для вбогого, а руки свої простягає до бідного.
She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yes, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
21 Холоду в домі своїм не боїться вона, бо подвійно одя́гнений ввесь її дім.
She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household [are] clothed with scarlet.
22 Килими́ поробила собі, віссо́н та кармази́н — убра́ння її.
She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing [is] silk and purple.
23 Чоловік її зна́ний при брамах, як сидить він із старшими краю.
Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
24 Тонку ту́ніку робить вона й продає, і купце́ві дає пояси́.
She maketh fine linen, and selleth [it]; and delivereth girdles to the merchant.
25 Сила та пи́шність — одежа її, і сміється вона до прийде́щнього дня.
Strength and honor [are] her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
26 Свої уста вона відкриває на мудрість, і милости́ва наука їй на язиці́.
She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and on her tongue [is] the law of kindness.
27 Доглядає вона ходи дому свого́, і хліба з ліни́вства не їсть.
She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
28 Устають її діти, і хвалять її, чоловік її — й він похваля́є її:
Her children rise up, and call her blessed; her husband [also], and he praiseth her.
29 „Багато було́ тих чесно́тних дочо́к, та ти їх усіх переви́щила!“
Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
30 Краса — то ома́на, а врода — марно́та, жінка ж богобоя́зна — вона буде хва́лена!
Favor [is] deceitful, and beauty [is] vain: [but] a woman [that] feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
31 Дайте їй з плоду рук її, і нехай її вчи́нки її вихваляють при брамах!“
Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
