நீதிமொழிகள் 6
1 என் மகனே, நீ அயலானுடைய கடனுக்காக உத்திரவாதம் கொடுத்திருந்தால், நீ அறியாதவனுக்கு பதிலாக வாக்குக்கொடுத்திருந்தால்,
My son, If thou hast become surety for thy friend, if thou hast struck thy hand for a stranger;
2 நீ சொன்ன வார்த்தையினால் நீ பிடிபட்டாய், உன் வாயின் வார்த்தையினாலே நீ அகப்பட்டாய்.
If thou art ensnared through the words of thy mouth, if thou art caught through the words of thy mouth:
3 என் மகனே, நீ உன் அயலாரின் கைகளில் விழுந்துவிட்டபடியினால், நீ உன்னை விடுவித்துக்கொள்ள நீ போய் உன்னைத் தாழ்த்தி, உன் அயலான் களைப்படையும் வரை வேண்டிக்கொள்.
[Then] do this by all means, my son, and deliver thyself, because thou art come into the power of thy friend, Go hasten to him, and urge thy friend.
4 அதுவரை உன் கண்களுக்கு நித்திரையையும், உன் கண் இமைகளுக்கு தூக்கத்தையும் வரவிடாதே.
Grant not any sleep to thy eyes, nor slumber to thy eyelids.
5 வேட்டைக்காரனின் கையில் அகப்பட்ட மானைப்போல, வேடனின் கையில் அகப்பட்ட பறவையைப்போல முயன்று நீ தப்பியோடு.
Deliver thyself as a roebuck from the hand [of the hunter], and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
6 சோம்பேறியே, நீ எறும்பிடம் போய், அதின் வழிகளைக் கவனித்து ஞானியாகு!
Go to the ant, thou sluggard; look on her ways, and become wise.
7 அதற்குத் தளபதியோ, மேற்பார்வையாளனோ, அதிகாரியோ இல்லை.
She, that hath no prince, officer, or ruler,
8 அப்படியிருந்தும் அது கோடைகாலத்தில் தனக்குத் தேவையான உணவை ஆயத்தப்படுத்துகிறது, அறுவடைக்காலத்தில் தன் உணவை அது சேகரிக்கிறது.
Provideth in the summer her provision, gathereth in harvest-time her food.
9 சோம்பேறியே, நீ எவ்வளவு நேரத்திற்கு படுத்திருப்பாய்? நீ உன் தூக்கத்தைவிட்டு எப்போது எழுந்திருப்பாய்?
How long, O sluggard, wilt thou lie down? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
10 கொஞ்சம் நித்திரை செய்வேன், கொஞ்சம் தூங்குவேன், கொஞ்சம் என் கைகளை மடித்து ஓய்வெடுப்பேன் என்பாயானால்,
“A little [more] sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands in lying down;”
11 வறுமை கொள்ளைக்காரனைப்போல் உன்மேல் வரும்; பற்றாக்குறை ஆயுதம் தாங்கிய முரடனைப்போல உன்னைத் தாக்கும்.
But then will thy poverty come like a rover, and thy want as a man armed with a shield.
12 வீணனும் கயவனுமானவன், வஞ்சக வார்த்தைகளைப் பேசித்திரிகிறான்.
A Godless person is a man of injustice, who walketh with a distorted mouth.
13 அவன் தன் கண்களை வஞ்சனையில் சிமிட்டி, தன் கால்களால் செய்தியைத் தெரிவித்து, தனது விரல்களால் சைகை காட்டுகிறான்.
He blinketh with his eyes, he scrapeth with his feet, he pointeth with his fingers;
14 அவன் தன் இருதயத்திலுள்ள வஞ்சனையினால் தீமையான சூழ்ச்சி செய்கிறான்; அவன் எப்பொழுதும் பிரிவினையைத் தூண்டிவிடுகிறான்.
Perverseness is in his heart, he contriveth evil at all times; he scattereth abroad discord.
15 அதினால் ஒரு கணப்பொழுதில் பேராபத்து அவனைச் சூழ்ந்துகொள்ளும்; மீளமுடியாதபடி திடீரென அழிந்துபோவான்.
Therefore shall suddenly come his calamity: unawares shalt he be broken without a remedy.
16 யெகோவா வெறுக்கிற ஆறு காரியங்கள் உண்டு, இல்லை, ஏழு காரியங்கள் அவருக்கு அருவருப்பானது:
Six things there are which the Lord hateth; and seven are an abomination unto his spirit:
17 கர்வமுள்ள கண்கள், பொய்பேசும் நாவு, குற்றமற்ற இரத்தத்தைச் சிந்தும் கைகள்,
Haughty eyes, a tongue of falsehood, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 கொடுமையான சூழ்ச்சிகளைத் திட்டமிடும் இருதயம், தீமைசெய்ய விரையும் கால்கள்,
A heart that contriveth plans of injustice, feet that hasten to run after evil,
19 பொய்ச்சாட்சி, சகோதரர்களுக்குள்ளே பிரிவினையைத் தூண்டிவிடும் நபர்.
A false witness that eagerly uttereth lies, and him that scattereth abroad discord among brethren.
20 என் மகனே, உன் தகப்பனின் கட்டளைகளைக் கைக்கொள், உன் தாயின் போதனையை விட்டுவிடாதே.
Keep, O my son, the commandment of thy father, and reject not the teaching of thy mother:
21 அவற்றை எப்பொழுதும் உன் இருதயத்தில் வைத்துக்கொள்; அவற்றை உன் கழுத்தில் கட்டிக்கொள்.
Bind them upon thy heart continually, tie them about thy throat.
22 நீ நடக்கும்போது அவை உனக்கு வழிகாட்டும்; நீ தூங்கும்போது, அவை உன்னைக் கண்காணிக்கும்; நீ விழித்தெழும்பும்போது, அவை உன்னோடு பேசும்.
When thou walkest, it shall lead thee; when thou liest down, it shall watch over thee; and when thou art awake, it shall converse with thee.
23 ஏனெனில் இந்த கட்டளைகள் ஒரு விளக்கு, இந்த போதனை ஒரு வெளிச்சம், நற்கட்டுப்பாடும் கண்டித்தலும் வாழ்வுக்கு வழி.
For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light; and the way of life are the admonitions of correction:
24 இவை ஒழுக்கங்கெட்ட பெண்ணிடமிருந்தும், விபசாரியின் இனிய வார்த்தைகளிலிருந்தும் உன்னை விலக்கிக் காக்கும்.
To guard thee against a bad woman, from the flattery of an alien tongue.
25 நீ உன் இருதயத்தில் அவளுடைய அழகின்மேல் இச்சை கொள்ளாதே; அவள் கண்கள் உன்னைக் கவருவதற்கு இடங்கொடாதே.
Covet not her beauty in thy heart, and let her not conquer thee with her eyelids.
26 ஏனெனில் விபசாரி, ஒரு துண்டு அப்பத்தைத் தேடி அலையும் நிலைக்கு உன்னைக்கொண்டு வருவாள்; பிறரின் மனைவி உன் உயிரையே சூறையாடுவாள்.
For by means of a harlot [one is brought down] to the last loaf of bread: and an adulterous woman will even hunt for the precious life,
27 ஒருவன் தன் உடைகள் எரியாமல் தன் மடியில் நெருப்பை அள்ளி எடுக்கமுடியுமோ?
Can a man gather up fire in his lap, and shall his clothes not be burnt?
28 அல்லது தனது பாதங்கள் எரியாதபடி, ஒருவனால் நெருப்புத்தழலில் நடக்க முடியுமோ?
Can a man walk along upon hot coals, and shall his feet not be burnt?
29 அவ்வாறே இன்னொருவனின் மனைவியுடன் உறவுகொள்பவனும் இருக்கிறான்; அவளைத் தொடுபவன் எவனும் தண்டனை பெறாமல் தப்பமாட்டான்.
So it is with him that goeth in to his neighbor's wife: no one that toucheth her shall remain unpunished.
30 ஒரு திருடன் தான் பசியாய் இருக்கும்போது, தன் பசியைத் தீர்ப்பதற்குத் திருடுவதை மனிதர் பெரும் குறையாகக் கருதுவதில்லை.
Men do not despise the thief, if he steal, to gratify his craving when he is hungry:
31 ஆனாலும் அவன் பிடிக்கப்பட்டால், அதை ஏழுமடங்காகக் கொடுத்தேத் தீரவேண்டும்; அதற்கு அவன் வீட்டிலுள்ள செல்வங்களையெல்லாம் அவன் கொடுக்க நேரிடும்.
And if he be found, he must pay sevenfold; all the wealth his house must he give.
32 ஆனால் விபசாரம் செய்பவனோ சுத்த முட்டாள்; அப்படிச் செய்பவன் தன்னைத்தானே அழித்துக்கொள்கிறான்.
But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh sense: he that is the destroyer of his soul, will alone do this.
33 அடிபட்ட காயமும் அவமானமும் அவனுடைய பங்கு; அவனுடைய வெட்கம் ஒருபோதும் நீங்காது.
Plague and disgrace will he meet with; and his reproach will not be blotted out.
34 ஏனெனில் பொறாமை கணவனின் மூர்க்கத்தைத் தூண்டும்; பழிவாங்கும் நாளில் அவன் இரக்கம் காட்டமாட்டான்.
For jealousy is the fury of a husband, and he will not spare on the day of vengeance.
35 அவன் எவ்வித இழப்பீட்டையும் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளமாட்டான்; எவ்வளவு பெரிய இலஞ்சமானாலும், அவன் அதை வாங்க மறுப்பான்.
He will not regard the appearance of any ransom; and he will not be content, though thou give ever so many bribes.
