எரேமியா 18
1 யெகோவாவிடமிருந்து எரேமியாவுக்கு வந்த வார்த்தை இதுவே:
The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,
2 “நீ குயவனுடைய வீட்டிற்குப் போ; அங்கே நான் என்னுடைய வார்த்தைகளை உனக்குத் தெரிவிப்பேன்” என்றார்.
Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there will I let thee hear my words.
3 அப்பொழுது நான் குயவனுடைய வீட்டிற்குப் போனேன், அங்கே குயவன் சக்கரத்தைக்கொண்டு வனைந்துகொண்டிருப்பதை நான் கண்டேன்.
Then went I down to the potter's house, and, behold, he was doing work on the wheels.
4 ஆனால் குயவன் களிமண்ணால் உருவாக்கிக் கொண்டிருந்த அப்பாத்திரம் அவனுடைய கையிலே பழுதடைந்துவிட்டது; அதனால் அவன் தனக்கு நலமாய்த் தோன்றிய விதத்தில் வேறொரு பாத்திரமாக அதை வனைந்தான்.
And the vessel that he was making became spoiled as [happeneth] with the clay in the hand of the potter; and he made again thereof another vessel, as it seemed good in the eyes of the potter to make it.
5 அப்பொழுது யெகோவாவின் வார்த்தை எனக்கு வந்தது:
Then came the word of the Lord to me, saying,
6 இஸ்ரயேல் குடும்பத்தாரே! இந்தக் குயவன் செய்வதுபோல, நானும் உங்களுக்குச் செய்யக்கூடாதா? என்று யெகோவா அறிவிக்கிறார். இஸ்ரயேல் குடும்பத்தாரே! குயவனுடைய கையில் களிமண் இருப்பதுபோல, நீங்களும் என் கையில் இருக்கிறீர்கள்.
Shall I not be able to do unto you as this potter, O house of Israel? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in my hand, O house of Israel.
7 எப்பொழுதாவது நான் ஒரு நாட்டையோ, அரசையோ குறித்து, அது வேரோடு பிடுங்கப்படும், தள்ளி வீழ்த்தப்படும், அழிக்கப்படும் என்று அறிவிக்கும்போது,
At one instant I speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy it;
8 நான் எச்சரித்த அந்த நாடு தன் தீமையைவிட்டு மனந்திரும்பினால், நான் மனமிரங்கி, கொண்டுவரத் திட்டமிட்ட பேராபத்தை அதன்மேல் சுமத்தமாட்டேன்.
But should that nation, against whom I have spoken, return from their wrong-doing: then will I bethink me of the evil that I had thought to do unto them.
9 இன்னொரு வேளையில் ஒரு நாட்டையோ, அரசையோ குறித்து அது கட்டப்படும் என்றும் நாட்டப்படும் என்றும் அறிவிக்கும்போது,
And at one instant I speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;
10 அந்த நாடு எனக்குக் கீழ்ப்படியாமல், எனது பார்வையில் தீமையை செய்தால், அதற்கு நான் செய்ய எண்ணியிருந்த நன்மைகளைச் செய்வதோ இல்லையோ என திரும்பவும் சிந்திப்பேன்.
But should it do what is evil in my eyes, so as not to hearken to my voice: then will I bethink me of the good, wherewith I had thought to benefit the same.
11 ஆகவே, இப்பொழுது நீ யூதா மக்களிடமும், எருசலேமில் வாழ்பவர்களிடமும் சொல்லவேண்டியதாவது: யெகோவா சொல்வது இதுவே: இதோ பாருங்கள், உங்களுக்கு ஒரு பேராபத்தை ஆயத்தப் படுத்துகிறேன்; உங்களுக்கு எதிராக ஒரு திட்டத்தை வகுக்கிறேன். ஆகையால் நீங்கள் ஒவ்வொருவரும் உங்கள் தீயவழிகளைவிட்டுத் திரும்பி, உங்கள் வழிகளையும், உங்கள் செய்கைகளையும் சீர்திருத்துங்கள் என்று சொல்.
And now do say to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, as followeth, Thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I form against you evil, and devise against you a device: do but return now every one from his evil way, and amend your ways and your deeds.
12 அதற்கு அவர்களோ, “இது பயனற்றது; நாங்கள் எங்கள் சொந்தத் திட்டங்களிலேயே தொடர்ந்து நடப்போம். நாங்கள் ஒவ்வொருவரும் எங்கள் தீய இருதயத்தின் பிடிவாதத்திலேயே நடப்போம் என்பார்கள்” என்றார்.
And they said, It is useless: for after our own thoughts will we walk, and we will every one do after the stubbornness of his evil heart.
13 ஆகையால் யெகோவா சொல்வது இதுவே: “இப்படிப்பட்ட ஒரு செயலை யாரும் எப்போதாவது கேட்டதுண்டோ? என்று நாடுகளிடம் விசாரியுங்கள்; இஸ்ரயேல் என்னும் கன்னிகை ஒரு படுமோசமான செயலைச் செய்திருக்கிறாள்.
Therefore thus hath said the Lord, Only ask among the nations, Who hath heard the like things? a very horrible act hath the virgin of Israel committed.
14 லெபனோனின் பனி அதன் பாறைச் சரிவுகளிலிருந்து எப்போதாவது மறைவதுண்டோ? தூரத்திலுள்ள நீரூற்றுகளிலிருந்து வரும் அதன் குளிர்ந்த தண்ணீர் எப்போதாவது ஓடாமல் நிற்கின்றதோ?
Doth the snow of Lebanon ever quit the rock of the field? or do the far-coming, cold, flowing waters ever fail?
15 ஆயினும், என் மக்களோ, என்னை மறந்துவிட்டார்கள். அவர்கள் பயனற்ற விக்கிரகங்களுக்குத் தூபம் எரிக்கிறார்கள். என் மக்களை அவர்களுடைய வழிகளிலும், முற்காலத்து பாதைகளிலும் அவைகளே இடறச்செய்தன. அவைகள் குறுக்கு வழிகளிலும், செப்பனிடாத வீதிகளிலும் அவர்களை நடக்கப்பண்ணின.
That my people have forgotten me, that they have burnt incense to false gods, and are made to stumble on their ways, the ancient beaten tracks, to walk in paths, on a road which is not leveled?
16 அவர்களுடைய நாடு பாழாக்கப்பட்டு என்றென்றைக்கும் ஒரு கேலிப் பொருளாயிருக்கும். அவர்களைக் கடந்துபோகும் யாவரும் திகைத்து, ஏளனமாய் தலையை அசைப்பார்கள்.
To make their land desolate, a perpetual derision: every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished, and shake his head.
17 கொண்டல் காற்றைப்போல் பகைவரின் முன்பாக அவர்களைச் சிதறடிப்பேன். அவர்களுடைய பேராபத்தின் நாளில் அவர்களுக்கு என்னுடைய முகத்தை அல்ல; என் முதுகையே காட்டுவேன் என்று யெகோவா கூறுகிறார் என்று சொல்” என்றார்.
Like an east wind will I scatter them before the enemy; with the back, and not the face, will I regard them on the day of their calamity.
18 அதற்கு அவர்கள், “எரேமியாவுக்கு எதிராகச் சதித்திட்டம் போடுவோம் வாருங்கள்; ஏனெனில் ஆசாரியர்கள் சட்டத்தைக் போதிப்பதும், ஞானிகள் ஆலோசனை கொடுப்பதும், இறைவாக்கு உரைப்போர் இறைவாக்கு உரைப்பதும் இல்லாமல் போகாது. எனவே வாருங்கள். நமது வார்த்தையினால் அவனைத் தாக்கி அவன் சொல்லும் எதையும் கவனியாமல் இருப்போம்” என்றார்கள்.
And they said, Come, and let us contrive devices against Jeremiah; for the law will not be lost from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not listen to any of his words.
19 “யெகோவாவே! எனக்குச் செவிகொடும். என்னைக் குற்றம் சாட்டுகிறவர்கள் சொல்வதையும் கேளும்.
Listen to me, O Lord, and hearken to the voice of those that contend with me.
20 நன்மைக்குப் பதிலாகத் தீமை செய்யப்படலாமோ? அவர்கள் எனக்குக் குழியை வெட்டியிருக்கிறார்களே! நான் உமது முன்னிலையில் நின்று உமது கடுங்கோபத்தை அவர்களிடமிருந்து திருப்பும்படி அவர்களின் சார்பாகப் பேசியதை நினைத்தருளும்.
Shall evil be recompensed instead of good, that they have dug a pit for my life? Remember my standing before thee to speak good concerning them, to cause thy wrath to turn away from them.
21 ஆகையால் அவர்கள் பிள்ளைகளைப் பஞ்சத்துக்கு ஒப்புக்கொடுத்து, வாளின் வல்லமைக்கு அவர்களை ஒப்புக்கொடும். அவர்களுடைய மனைவிகள் பிள்ளையற்றவர்களாகவும், விதவைகளாகவும் ஆகட்டும். அவர்களுடைய ஆண்கள் சாகடிக்கப்பட்டு, அவர்களின் வாலிபர் யுத்தத்தில் வாளால் கொலைசெய்யப்படட்டும்.
Therefore give up their children to the famine, and let their life ebb out by means of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and widows; and let their men be slain by death; their young men smitten by the sword in the battle.
22 நீர் திடீரென அவர்கள்மீது கொள்ளைக் கூட்டத்தைக் கொண்டுவரும்போது, அவர்கள் வீடுகளிலிருந்து கூக்குரல் கேட்கட்டும். ஏனெனில் என்னைப் பிடிப்பதற்கு அவர்கள் குழிவெட்டி, என் கால்களுக்குக் கண்ணிகளை மறைத்து வைத்திருக்கிறார்கள்.
Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou bringest a troop over them suddenly; for they have dug a pit to catch me, and laid concealed snares for my feet.
23 ஆனாலும் யெகோவாவே! எனக்கெதிராக என்னைக் கொல்வதற்கு அவர்கள் செய்யும் சதித்திட்டங்களை எல்லாம் நீர் அறிவீர். அவர்களுடைய குற்றங்களை மன்னியாமலும், உமது பார்வையிலிருந்து அவர்களுடைய பாவங்களை அகற்றாமலும் இரும். அவர்கள் உமக்கு முன்பாக வீழ்த்தப்படட்டும்; உமது கோபத்தின் வேளையில் இவ்வாறு அவர்களுக்குச் செய்யும்.”
Yet thou, Lord, knowest well all their counsel against me to [procure my] death: forgive not their iniquity, and let their sin not be blotted out from before thee; but let them be brought to stumbling before thee; in the time of thy anger deal thus with them.
