Tito 1

1 Pablo, siervo de Dios y apóstol de Jesucristo, de acuerdo con la fe de los escogidos de Dios y el pleno conocimiento de lo que es verdadero en armonía con la santidad,

PAUL, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of the elect of God, and the knowledge of truth which leads to godliness;

2 En la esperanza de la vida eterna, que se hizo cierta antes del tiempo eterno, por la palabra de Dios que es siempre verdadera; (aiōnios g166)

in hope of life eternal, which God, who cannot lie, hath promised before time had a being; (aiōnios g166)

3 Que, en su tiempo, dejó en claro su palabra, de las cuales, por orden de Dios nuestro Salvador, me convertí en predicador;

but hath manifested in his own appointed season his word by the preaching, with which I have been entrusted, according to the command of our Saviour God;

4 A Tito, mi verdadero hijo en nuestra fe común: Gracia, misericordia y paz, de parte de Dios el Padre y de Jesucristo nuestro Salvador.

to Titus, my genuine son after the common faith, be grace, mercy, peace, from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.

5 No te llevé conmigo cuando me fui de Creta, para que pudieras hacer lo que fuera necesario para poner las cosas en orden allí, colocando hombres en autoridad sobre las iglesias en cada ciudad, como te dije;

For this purpose I left thee behind me at Crete, that thou mightest direct the regulations which remained to be executed, and that thou shouldest appoint presbyters in every city, as I charged thee to do:

6 Hombres que tienen un buen historial, marido de una esposa, cuyos hijos son de la fe, hijos de los cuales no se puede decir que se les da por vivir en mala conducta o rebeldes.

if there be a man blameless, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, not under an accusation or debauchery, or disorderly conduct.

7 Porque es necesario que un Obispo sea un hombre de virtud, como el siervo de Dios; no soberbio, no se mueve rápidamente a la ira o los golpes, no codicioso de obtener ganancias para sí mismo;

For a bishop ought to be irreproachable, as the steward of God; not self-willed, not irritable, not addicted to wine, not quarrelsome, not greedy of filthy lucre;

8 Pero abriendo su casa libremente a los huéspedes; un amante de lo que es bueno, serio, recto, santo, con dominio propio;

but the stranger’s host, the good man’s friend, grave, just, holy, temperate;

9 Mantener la verdadera palabra de la enseñanza, para que él pueda consolar con la enseñanza correcta y convencer a los que contradicen.

firmly attached to the faithful word, according to the doctrine delivered, that he may be able to exhort with sound instruction and to confute the opposers.

10 Porque hay muchos que no se someten a la autoridad; necios habladores, falsos maestros, especialmente los de la circuncisión,

For there are many disorderly persons vainly talkative, and under a spirit of delusion, especially some of the circumcised;

11 A los cuales tenemos que tapar la boca; que toman dinero para enseñar cosas que no son correctas; estos tendrán que ser detenidos.

whose mouths ought to be muzzled, who pervert whole families, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of base gain.

12 Uno de sus profetas ha dicho: Los hombres de Creta son mentirosos, bestias malvados, amantes de la comida, que aborrecen el trabajo.

One of them, a poet of their own nation, hath said, The Cretans are always liars, wicked beasts, slothful gluttons.

13 Este testimonio es verdad. Así que diles palabras fuertes para que puedan llegar a la fe correcta,

This testimony is true. For which cause rebuke them with severity, that they may be sound in the faith;

14 Sin prestar atención a las ficciones de los judíos y las reglas de los hombres que no tienen ningún conocimiento verdadero.

not attending to Jewish fables, and injunctions of men, who have turned away from the truth.

15 Para los limpios de corazón, todas las cosas son limpias; pero para los que son inmundos y sin fe nada está limpio; se vuelven impuros en la mente y en el pensamiento.

All things indeed are clean to the clean: but to the defiled and to the unbelievers there is nothing clean; but their very mind and conscience are defiled.

16 Dicen que tienen conocimiento de Dios, mientras que por sus actos le están dando la espalda; son odiados por todos, de corazón duro. Reprobados en cuanto a toda buena obra.

They profess to know God; but in works deny him, being abominable and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
