Proverbios 17
1 Mejor un pedazo de pan seco en paz, que una casa llena de banquetes y comportamiento violento.
A dry morsel with gladness is better than a house full of sacrifices along with conflict.
2 Un siervo sabio tendrá dominio sobre un hijo indigno, y tendrá su parte en la herencia entre hermanos.
A wise servant shall rule over foolish sons, and he will divide the inheritance among brothers.
3 La olla de calefacción es para la plata y el horno de fuego para él oro, pero el Señor es el que prueba los corazones.
Just as silver is tested by fire, and gold is tested in the furnace, so also does the Lord test hearts.
4 Un malhechor presta atención a los labios malvados, y un hombre de engaño escucha una lengua dañina.
The evil obey an unjust tongue. And the false are submissive to lying lips.
5 El que se burla de los pobres avergüenza a su Hacedor; y el que se alegra por el problema no quedará libre del castigo.
Whoever despises the poor rebukes his Maker. And whoever rejoices in the ruin of another will not go unpunished.
6 Los nietos son la corona de los ancianos, y la gloria de los hijos son sus padres.
Sons of sons are the crown of old age. And the glory of sons is their fathers.
7 Las palabras justas no deben buscarse en un hombre necio, y mucho menos son labios falsos en un gobernante.
Well-chosen words are not fitting for the foolish, nor are lying lips fitting for a leader.
8 El soborno es como una piedra de gran precio a los ojos del que la tiene: a donde sea que vaya, lo hace bien.
The expectation of those who stand ready is a most pleasing jewel. Whichever way he turns himself, he understands prudently.
9 El que guarda el pecado cubierto está buscando el amor; pero el que sigue hablando de algo hace división entre amigos.
Whoever conceals an offense seeks friendships. Whoever repeats the words of another separates allies.
10 Una palabra de corrección profundiza más en alguien que tiene sentido, que cien golpes en un hombre tonto.
A correction benefits more with a wise man, than a hundred stripes with a fool.
11 Un hombre descontrolado solo busca problemas, por lo que un criado cruel será enviado contra él.
The evil one continually seeks conflicts. But a cruel Angel shall be sent against him.
12 Es mejor encontrarse cara a cara con un oso al que se han llevado sus crías que con un hombre necio que actúa tontamente.
It is more expedient to meet a bear robbed of her young, than the foolish trusting in his own folly.
13 Si alguno devuelve el mal por bien, el mal nunca se irá de su casa.
Whoever repays evil for good, evil shall not withdraw from his house.
14 El comienzo de la lucha es como dejar salir el agua: así que ríndete antes de recibir golpes.
Whoever releases the water is the head of the conflict. And just before he suffers contempt, he abandons judgment.
15 El que toma una decisión por el malhechor y el que toma una decisión contra el recto, son igualmente repugnantes para el Señor.
Those who justify the impious, and those who condemn the just, both are abominable with God.
16 ¿Cómo el dinero en mano de los necios obtendrá sabiduría, viendo que no tiene entendimiento?
What does it profit the foolish to have riches, when he is not able to buy wisdom? Whoever makes his house high seeks ruin. And whoever shuns learning shall fall into evils.
17 Un amigo es amoroso en todo momento, y se convierte en hermano en tiempos de problemas.
Whoever is a friend loves at all times. And a brother is proved by distress.
18 Un hombre sin sentido da su fianza, y se hace responsable ante su prójimo.
A foolish man will clap his hands, when he makes a pledge for his friend.
19 El amante de la contienda es un amante del pecado: el que abre la puerta busca la destrucción.
Whoever dwells on discord loves disputes. And whoever exalts his door seeks ruin.
20 Nada bueno le sucede a aquel cuyo corazón está fijado en propósitos malvados; y el que tiene lengua maligna tendrá problemas.
Whoever is of a perverse heart shall not find good. And whoever turns his tongue shall fall into evil.
21 El que tiene un hijo impío, se aflige, y el padre de un hijo necio no se alegra.
A foolish one is born into his own disgrace. But his father will not rejoice in one who is senseless.
22 Un corazón alegre hace un cuerpo sano, pero un espíritu aplastado seca los huesos.
A joyful soul makes a lifetime flourish. A gloomy spirit dries out the bones.
23 Un pecador toma un soborno en secreto, para tomar una decisión por sí mismo en una causa.
The impious receives gifts from the bosom, so that he may pervert the paths of judgment.
24 La sabiduría está delante del que tiene sentido; pero los ojos de los necios vagan en los confines de la tierra.
Prudence shines from the face of the wise. The eyes of the foolish are on the ends of the earth.
25 Un hijo necio es un dolor para su padre, y un dolor amargo para la que lo dio a luz.
A foolish son is the anger of the father and the grief of the mother who conceived him.
26 Castigar los rectos no es bueno, o dar golpes a los nobles por su justicia.
It is not good to inflict damage on the just, nor to strike the leader who judges uprightly.
27 El que tiene conocimiento dice poco; y el que tiene espíritu tranquilo es un hombre de buen juicio.
Whoever moderates his words is learned and prudent. And a man of learning has a precious spirit.
28 Aun el necio, cuando calla, es sabio: cuando cierra los labios, se le acredita el buen juicio.
If he would remain silent, even the foolish would be considered wise, and if he closes his lips, intelligent.
