Ezequiel 18
1 Y fue palabra de Jehová a mí, diciendo:
Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
2 ¿Qué habéis vosotros, vosotros que refranéais este refrán sobre la tierra de Israel, diciendo: Los padres comieron el agraz, y los dientes de los hijos tienen la dentera?
“What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel: ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the teeth of the children are set on edge’?
3 Vivo yo, dijo el Señor Jehová, que nunca más tendréis porque refranear este refrán en Israel.
As surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, you will no longer quote this proverb in Israel.
4 He aquí que todas las almas son mías: como el alma del padre, así el alma del hijo, mías son: el alma que pecare, esa morirá.
Behold, every soul belongs to Me; both father and son are Mine. The soul who sins is the one who will die.
5 Y el hombre que fuere justo, e hiciere juicio y justicia:
Now suppose a man is righteous and does what is just and right:
6 Que no comiere sobre los montes, ni alzare sus ojos a los ídolos de la casa de Israel, ni violare la mujer de su prójimo, ni llegare a la mujer en su mes,
He does not eat at the mountain or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor’s wife or approach a woman during her period.
7 Ni oprimiere a ninguno: al deudor tornare su prenda, no robare robo, diere de su pan al hambriento, y cubriere al desnudo con vestido:
He does not oppress another, but restores the pledge to the debtor. He does not commit robbery, but gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with clothing.
8 No diere a logro, ni recibiere más de lo que hubiere dado: de la maldad retrajere su mano: juicio de verdad hiciere entre hombre y hombre:
He does not engage in usury or take excess interest, but he withholds his hand from iniquity and executes true justice between men.
9 En mis ordenanzas caminare, y guardare mis derechos para hacer según verdad: este es justo: este vivirá, dijo el Señor Jehová.
He follows My statutes and faithfully keeps My ordinances. That man is righteous; surely he will live,
10 Y si engendrare hijo ladrón, derramador de sangre, o que haga alguna cosa de estas,
Now suppose that man has a violent son, who sheds blood or does any of these things,
11 Y que no haga todas las demás; antes comiere sobre los montes, o violare la mujer de su prójimo,
though the father has done none of them: Indeed, the son eats at the mountain and defiles his neighbor’s wife.
12 Al pobre, y menesteroso oprimiere, robare robos, o no tornare la prenda, o alzare sus ojos a los ídolos, o hiciere abominación,
He oppresses the poor and needy; he commits robbery and does not restore a pledge. He lifts his eyes to idols; he commits abominations.
13 Diere a usura, y recibiere más de lo que dio, ¿este vivirá? No vivirá. ¿Todas estas abominaciones hizo? muerte morirá: su sangre será sobre él.
He engages in usury and takes excess interest. Will this son live? He will not! Since he has committed all these abominations, he will surely die; his blood will be on his own head.
14 Y si engendrare hijo, el cual viere todos los pecados que su padre hizo, y viéndolos, no hiciere como ellos:
Now suppose this son has a son who sees all the sins his father has committed, considers them, and does not do likewise:
15 No comiere sobre los montes, ni alzare sus ojos a los ídolos de la casa de Israel: la mujer de su prójimo no violare,
He does not eat at the mountain or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor’s wife.
16 Ni oprimiere a nadie: la prenda no empeñare, ni robare robos: al hambriento diere de su pan, y cubriere de vestido al desnudo:
He does not oppress another, or retain a pledge, or commit robbery. He gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with clothing.
17 Apartare su mano del pobre: usura, ni más de lo que dio, no recibiere, hiciere según mis derechos, anduviere en mis ordenanzas: este no morirá por la maldad de su padre: viviendo vivirá.
He withholds his hand from harming the poor and takes no interest or usury. He keeps My ordinances and follows My statutes. Such a man will not die for his father’s iniquity. He will surely live.
18 Su padre, por cuanto hizo agravio, robó robo del hermano, e hizo en medio de su pueblo lo que no es bueno, he aquí que él morirá por su maldad.
As for his father, he will die for his own iniquity, because he practiced extortion, robbed his brother, and did what was wrong among his people.
19 Y si dijereis: ¿Por qué el hijo no llevará por el pecado de su padre? Porque el hijo hizo juicio y justicia, guardó todas mis ordenanzas, e hizo según ellas: viviendo vivirá.
Yet you may ask, ‘Why shouldn’t the son bear the iniquity of his father?’ Since the son has done what is just and right, carefully observing all My statutes, he will surely live.
20 El alma que pecare, esa morirá: el hijo no llevará por el pecado del padre, ni el padre llevará por el pecado del hijo: la justicia del justo será sobre él, y la impiedad del impío será sobre él.
The soul who sins is the one who will die. A son will not bear the iniquity of his father, and a father will not bear the iniquity of his son. The righteousness of the righteous man will fall upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked man will fall upon him.
21 Mas el impío, si se apartare de todos sus pecados que hizo, y guardare todas mis ordenanzas, e hiciere juicio y justicia, viviendo vivirá: no morirá.
But if the wicked man turns from all the sins he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is just and right, he will surely live; he will not die.
22 Todas sus rebeliones que cometió, no le vendrán en memoria: por su justicia que hizo vivirá.
None of the transgressions he has committed will be held against him. Because of the righteousness he has practiced, he will live.
23 ¿Quiero yo la muerte del impío? dijo el Señor Jehová. ¿No vivirá, si se apartare de sus caminos?
Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Lord GOD. Wouldn’t I prefer that he turn from his ways and live?
24 Mas si el justo se apartare de su justicia, e hiciere maldad, e hiciere conforme a todas las abominaciones, que el impío hizo, ¿vivirá él? Todas las justicias que hizo no vendrán en memoria: por su rebelión con que rebeló, y por su pecado que pecó, por ellos morirá.
But if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and practices iniquity, committing the same abominations as the wicked, will he live? None of the righteous acts he did will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness and sin he has committed, he will die.
25 Y si dijereis: No es derecho el camino del Señor. Oíd ahora casa de Israel: ¿No es derecho mi camino? ¿No son antes torcidos vuestros caminos?
Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Hear now, O house of Israel: Is it My way that is unjust? Is it not your ways that are unjust?
26 Apartándose el justo de su justicia, y haciendo iniquidad, él morirá por ello: por su iniquidad que hizo, morirá.
If a righteous man turns from his righteousness and practices iniquity, he will die for this. He will die because of the iniquity he has committed.
27 Y apartándose el impío de su impiedad que hizo, y haciendo juicio y justicia, hará vivir su alma.
But if a wicked man turns from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he will save his life.
28 Porque miró, y apartóse de todas sus rebeliones que hizo, viviendo vivirá, no morirá.
Because he considered and turned from all the transgressions he had committed, he will surely live; he will not die.
29 Y si dijeren los de la casa de Israel: No es derecho el camino del Señor. ¿No son derechos mis caminos, casa de Israel? Cierto vuestros caminos no son derechos.
Yet the house of Israel says, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Are My ways unjust, O house of Israel? Is it not your ways that are unjust?
30 Por tanto yo os juzgaré a cada uno según sus caminos, o! casa de Israel, dijo el Señor Jehová. Convertíos, y hacéd convertir de todas vuestras iniquidades; y no os será la iniquidad causa de ruina.
Therefore, O house of Israel, I will judge you, each according to his ways, declares the Lord GOD. Repent and turn from all your transgressions, so that your iniquity will not become your downfall.
31 Echád de vosotros todas vuestras iniquidades con que habéis rebelado, y hacéos corazón nuevo, y espíritu nuevo. ¿Y por qué moriréis, casa de Israel?
Cast away from yourselves all the transgressions you have committed, and fashion for yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. Why should you die, O house of Israel?
32 Que no quiero la muerte del que muere, dijo el Señor Jehová: hacéd pues convertir, y viviréis.
For I take no pleasure in anyone’s death, declares the Lord GOD. So repent and live!
