Proverbios 1
1 Los proverbios de Salomón, hijo de David, rey de Israel,
THE PROVERBS of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;
2 Para conocer sabiduría y disciplina, Para comprender las palabras de inteligencia,
To know wisdom and instruction; to comprehend the words of understanding;
3 Para recibir disciplina y enseñanza, Justicia, derecho y equidad,
To receive the discipline of wisdom, justice, and right, and equity;
4 Para dar sagacidad al incauto, Y a los jóvenes conocimiento y discreción.
To give prudence to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion;
5 Oirá el sabio y aumentará el saber, Y el entendido obtendrá habilidades.
That the wise man may hear, and increase in learning, and the man of understanding may attain unto wise counsels;
6 Entenderá el proverbio y el dicho profundo, Las palabras de los sabios y sus enigmas.
To understand a proverb, and a figure; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
7 El principio de la sabiduría es el temor a Yavé. Los insensatos desprecian la sabiduría y la disciplina.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and discipline.
8 Escucha, hijo mío, la enseñanza de tu padre, Y no abandones la instrucción de tu madre,
Hear, my son, the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the teaching of thy mother;
9 Porque hermosa diadema será en tu cabeza Y collar en tu cuello.
For they shall be a chaplet of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.
10 Hijo mío, si los pervertidos te quieren seducir, No consientas.
My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.
11 Si dicen: Ven con nosotros a tender trampas mortales, Acechemos sin motivo al inocente.
If they say: 'Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood, let us lurk for the innocent without cause;
Let us swallow them up alive as the grave, and whole, as those that go down into the pit; (Sheol h7585)
13 Hallaremos objetos valiosos. Llenaremos nuestras casas del botín.
We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil;
14 Comparte tu suerte con nosotros, Y tengamos todos una sola bolsa.
Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse' —
15 Hijo mío, no andes en el camino de ellos. Aparta tu pie de sus senderos,
My son, walk not thou in the way with them, restrain thy foot from their path;
16 Porque sus pies corren hacia el mal Y se apresuran a derramar sangre.
For their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood.
17 En vano se tiende la red Ante los ojos de las aves.
For in vain the net is spread in the eyes of any bird;
18 Pero ellos colocan trampas a su propia sangre, Y ante sus propias vidas tienden acechanza.
And these lie in wait for their own blood, they lurk for their own lives.
19 Tales son los senderos del que es dado a codicia, La cual quita la vida a los que la tienen.
So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; it taketh away the life of the owners thereof.
20 La Sabiduría clama en las calles Y da su voz en las plazas.
Wisdom crieth aloud in the streets, she uttereth her voice in the broad places;
21 Proclama sobre los muros, Y en las entradas de las puertas pregona sus palabras:
She calleth at the head of the noisy streets, at the entrances of the gates, in the city, she uttereth her words:
22 Oh simples ¿hasta cuándo amarán la ingenuidad? ¿Hasta cuando los burladores amarán la burla, Los insensatos aborrecerán el saber?
'How long, ye thoughtless, will ye love thoughtlessness? And how long will scorners delight them in scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
23 ¡Regresen ante mi reprensión, Y les manifestaré mi espíritu, Y les haré conocer mis palabras!
Turn you at my reproof; behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
24 Pero por cuanto llamé y rehusaron. Extendí mi mano, y no hubo quién escuchara.
Because I have called, and ye refused, I have stretched out my hand, and no man attended,
25 Desecharon todo mi consejo, Y no quisieron mi reprensión.
But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof;
26 Yo también me reiré cuando llegue su calamidad Y me burlaré cuando los alcance lo que temen.
I also, in your calamity, will laugh, I will mock when your dread cometh;
27 Cuando lo que temen venga como destrucción, Su calamidad llegue como un remolino de viento Y vengan sobre ustedes tribulación y angustia.
When your dread cometh as a storm, and your calamity cometh on as a whirlwind; when trouble and distress come upon you.
28 Entonces me llamarán, y no responderé, Me buscarán, pero no me hallarán,
Then will they call me, but I will not answer, they will seek me earnestly, but they shall not find me.
29 Por cuanto aborrecieron el conocimiento Y no escogieron el temor a Yavé.
For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD;
30 No quisieron mi consejo Y menospreciaron toda reprensión mía.
They would none of my counsel, they despised all my reproof.
31 Entonces comerán el fruto de su camino Y se saciarán de sus propios consejos.
Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
32 El descarrío de los simples los matará, Y la dejadez de los necios los destruirá.
For the waywardness of the thoughtless shall slay them, and the confidence of fools shall destroy them.
33 Pero el que me escuche vivirá confiadamente Y estará tranquilo, sin temor al mal.
But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell securely, and shall be quiet without fear of evil.'
