Génesis 8

1 Entonces ʼElohim se acordó de Noé, de todo ser viviente y de todos los animales que estaban con él en el arca. Y ʼElohim hizo soplar un viento sobre la tierra y las aguas decrecieron.

But God hadn't forgotten about Noah and all the wild animals and livestock with him in the ark. God sent a wind to blow over the earth, and the floodwaters started to drop.

2 Las fuentes del abismo y las compuertas de los cielos fueron cerradas, y la lluvia del cielo fue detenida.

The subterranean waters were closed off, and the heavy rainfall was stopped.

3 Entonces las aguas retrocedían de sobre la tierra, iban y venían. Al completarse los 150 días las aguas disminuyeron.

The floodwaters steadily receded from the earth. They had gone down so much that by 150 days after the flood began

4 El día 17 del mes séptimo, el arca se posó sobre las montañas de Ararat.

the ark grounded on the mountains of Ararat. This happened on the seventeenth day of the seventh month.

5 Las aguas siguieron en descenso hasta el décimo mes. El primer día del décimo mes se descubrieron las cumbres de las montañas.

The waters continued to drop so that by the first day of the tenth month the tops of mountains could be seen.

6 Ocurrió después de 40 días que Noé abrió la ventana que hizo en el arca.

Forty days later Noah opened the window he'd made in the ark,

7 Envió un cuervo, el cual iba y regresaba hasta que se secaron las aguas de sobre la tierra.

and sent a raven out. It flew back and forth until the water on the earth had dried up.

8 Luego envió una paloma para ver si las aguas de la superficie de la tierra habían menguado.

Then he sent a dove out to see if the waters had gone down enough to expose dry ground.

9 Pero la paloma no halló lugar de reposo, y volvió a él, al arca, porque había agua sobre la superficie de toda la tierra. Entonces él extendió su mano, la tomó y la introdujo consigo en el arca.

But the dove couldn't find anywhere to land. So it came back to Noah in the ark because water was still covering the whole earth. He reached out his hand, picked up the dove, and took it back into the ark with him.

10 Esperó ansiosamente aún otros siete días, y volvió a enviar la paloma desde el arca.

He waited another seven days and sent the dove out from the ark again.

11 La paloma volvió a él por la tarde y llevó una hoja fresca de olivo en su pico. Así Noé entendió que las aguas habían menguado de sobre la tierra.

When it came back to him in the evening it had a freshly-picked olive leaf in its beak, so Noah knew the floodwaters were mainly gone from the earth.

12 Esperó ansiosamente aún otros siete días y envió la paloma, la cual no volvió más a él.

Again he waited another seven days and sent the dove out again, but this time it didn't return to him.

13 Aconteció que el primer día del primer mes del año 601, las aguas comenzaron a drenar de sobre la tierra. Entonces Noé ordenó apartar la cubierta del arca y, al mirar, observó que la superficie de la tierra estaba seca.

By now Noah was 601, and by the first day of the first month, the floodwaters on the earth were gone. Noah pulled back the ark's covering and saw that the ground was drying out.

14 El día 27 del segundo mes, la tierra quedó seca.

By the twenty-seventh day of the second month the earth was dry.

15 Entonces ʼElohim habló a Noé:

Then God told Noah,

16 Sal del arca, tú y contigo tu esposa, tus hijos y las esposas de tus hijos.

“Leave the ark, you and your wife, your sons and their wives.

17 Saca todos los animales de toda especie que están contigo: las aves, el ganado y los reptiles que se arrastran sobre la tierra para que vayan por la tierra, sean fecundos y se multipliquen.

Let all the animals go—the birds, the wild animals, the creatures that run along the ground—so that they can breed and increase their numbers on the earth.”

18 Noé salió, y con él sus hijos, su esposa y las esposas de sus hijos.

So Noah and his wife, his sons and their wives, left the ark.

19 Salieron del arca todos los animales, todos los reptiles, todas las aves y todo lo que se mueve sobre la tierra, según su especie.

All the animals, all the creatures that run along the ground, all the birds—everything that lives on land—also left, each kind leaving together.

20 Noé construyó un altar a Yavé. Tomó de todo animal limpio y toda ave limpia, y ofreció holocaustos sobre el altar.

Noah built an altar, and sacrificed some of the clean animals and birds as a burnt offering.

21 Yavé percibió el grato olor y dijo en su corazón: No volveré jamás a maldecir la tierra por causa del hombre, porque la inclinación del corazón del hombre es perversa desde su juventud. No volveré, por tanto, a cortar a todo ser viviente como hice.

The Lord accepted the sacrifice, and said to himself, “I won't ever again curse the ground because of human beings, even though every single thought in their minds is evil from childhood. I won't ever destroy all life again as I have just done.

22 Mientras permanezca la tierra, No cesarán la siembra y la cosecha, El frío y el calor, el verano y el invierno, Y el día y la noche.

As long as the earth exists, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, will never come to an end.”

A Dove is Sent Forth from the Ark
