Jakob 3
1 Ne bodite mnogi učitelji, bratje moji, vedóč da dobimo večjo sodbo;
Do not let many be teachers, my brothers, having known that we will receive greater judgment,
2 Kajti mnogo grešimo vsi. Če kdo v besedi ne greši, ta je popoln mož, zmožen brzdati tudi celo telo.
for we all make many stumbles; if anyone does not stumble in word, this one [is] a perfect man, able to also bridle the whole body;
3 Glej, konjem devamo brzde v gobce, da so nam poslušni, in vladamo cel njih život.
behold, the bits we put into the mouths of the horses for their obeying us, and we direct their whole body;
4 Glej, tudi ladije, ki so tako velike, in ki jih silni vetrovi gonijo, vlada najmanjše krmilo, kamorkoli hoče vodnikov naklep.
behold, also the ships, being so great, and being driven by fierce winds, are directed by a very small rudder, wherever the impulse of the [one] steering wills,
5 Tako je tudi jezik majhen ud in se ponaša. Glej, majhen ogenj, kolikošen gozd zažge!
so also the tongue is a little member, and boasts greatly; behold, how much forest a little fire kindles!
6 Tudi jezik je ogenj, svet krivice. Tako se kaže jezik med udi našimi, ki oskrunja cel život in zažiga rojstva kolo, njega pa zažiga pekel; (Geenna g1067)
And the tongue [is] a fire, the world of the unrighteousness, so the tongue is set in our members, which is spotting our whole body, and is setting on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
7 Kajti sleherno naravo zverî in tičev, laznine in morske živali kroti in je ukrotila narava človeška;
For every nature, both of beasts and of birds, both of creeping things and things of the sea, is subdued, and has been subdued, by the human nature,
8 Jezika pa ne more krotiti nobeden človek; zlo neukrotno, poln smrtnega strupa!
but no one of men is able to subdue the tongue—[it is] an unruly evil, full of deadly poison;
9 Z njim blagoslavljamo Boga in očeta, in z njim preklinjamo ljudí, vstvarjene po podobi Božji;
with it we bless the God and Father, and with it we curse the men made according to [the] likeness of God;
10 Iz istih ust izhaja blagoslov in kletev. To, bratje, ne sme se tako goditi!
out of the same mouth comes forth blessing and cursing; it does not need, my brothers, these things to so happen;
11 Saj pač studenec iz iste votline ne bruha sladko in grenko!
does the fountain out of the same opening pour forth the sweet and the bitter?
12 Saj, bratje moji, smokva ne more roditi oliv ali trta smokev; tako noben studenec delati vode solne in sladke.
Is a fig tree able, my brothers, to make olives? Or a vine figs? Neither is salty [water able] to have made sweet water.
13 Kdo je moder in razumen med vami? Kaže naj iz lepega vedenja dela svoja v krotkosti modri.
Who [is] wise and intelligent among you? Let him show his works out of good behavior in meekness of wisdom,
14 Če pa imate bridko gorečnost in prepirljivost v srci svojem, ne ponašajte se in lagajte zoper resnico.
yet, if you have bitter zeal, and rivalry in your heart, do not glory, nor lie against the truth;
15 To ni modrost, ki prihaja od zgoraj, nego zemeljska, počutna, vražja.
this wisdom is not descending from above, but earthly, physical, demon-like,
16 Kjer je namreč gorečnost in prepirljivost, tam nerednost in vse zlo delo.
for where zeal and rivalry [are], there is insurrection and every evil matter;
17 Modrost pa od zgoraj je prvič čista, potem mirna, rahla, poslušna, polna usmiljenja in dobrega sadú, nedvomna in odkritosrčna.
but the wisdom from above, first, indeed, is pure, then peaceable, gentle, well-convinced, full of kindness and good fruits, uncontentious, and unhypocritical—
18 Sad pa pravice se seje v miru njim, ki hranijo mir.
and the fruit of righteousness in peace is sown to those making peace.
