1 Mumwe musi Jesu akanga achinyengetera ari pane imwe nzvimbo. Akati apedza, mumwe wavadzidzi vake akati kwaari, “Ishe, tidzidzisei kunyengetera, saJohani akadzidzisa vadzidzi vake.”
One day Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
2 Iye akati kwavari, “Kana muchinyengetera, muti: “‘Baba vedu vari kudenga, zita renyu ngarikudzwe noutsvene. Umambo hwenyu ngahuuye. Kuda kwenyu ngakuitwe panyika sezvinoitwa kudenga.
So he said to them, “When you pray, say, ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be yoʋr name. Yoʋr kingdom come. Yoʋr will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
3 Tipei zuva nezuva chingwa chedu chamazuva namazuva.
Give us each day our daily bread.
4 Uye mutiregerere zvivi zvedu; nokuti nesuwo tinoregerera vose vanotitadzira. Musatitungamirira mukuedzwa; uye mutinunure pane zvakaipa.’”
And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.’”
5 Ipapo akati kwavari, “Kana mumwe wenyu ane shamwari, uye akaenda kwaari pakati pousiku akati, ‘Shamwari, ndikweretesewo zvingwa zvitatu,
Then he said to them, “Suppose one of you has a friend, and yoʋ go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves,
6 nokuti shamwari yangu iri parwendo yasvika kwangu, uye ini handina chandingamupa.’
for a friend on a journey has come to me, and I have nothing to set before him,’
7 “Ipapo uya ari mukati akati, ‘Rega kundinetsa. Mukova wangu watopfigwa, uye vana vangu neni tavata. Handikwanisi kumuka kuti ndikupe kana chinhu.’
and he answers from inside and says, ‘Do not bother me! The door is already shut, and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up to give yoʋ anything.’
8 Ndinokuudzai, kuti kunyange asingazomuki kuti amupe chingwa nokuda kwokuti ishamwari yake, asi nokuda kwokushingirira kwomunhu uyu, achamuka agomupa zvose zvaanoda.
I tell you, even if he will not get up and give yoʋ anything because yoʋ are his friend, yet because of yoʋr shameless persistence, he will get up and give yoʋ as much as yoʋ need.
9 “Saka ndinoti kwamuri: Kumbirai, muchapiwa, tsvakai, muchawana; gogodzai, muchazarurirwa mukova.
So I tell you: Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you.
10 Nokuti ani naani anokumbira achapiwa; anotsvaka achawana; anogogodza, achazarurirwa mukova.
For everyone who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and for him who knocks, the door will be opened.
11 “Ndiani pakati penyu vanababa, angati, kana mwanakomana wake amukumbira hove, omupa nyoka pachinzvimbo chehove?
Now what father among you, when his son asks for bread, will give him a stone; or again, when he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent instead of a fish;
12 Kana kuti akakumbira zai, angamupa chinyavada here?
or again, if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?
13 Zvino kana imi, kunyange makaipa zvenyu, muchiziva kupa zvipo zvakanaka kuvana venyu, Baba venyu vari kudenga vachapa zvikuru sei Mweya Mutsvene kuna vanomukumbira!”
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
14 Jesu akanga achidzinga dhimoni raiva mbeveve. Dhimoni rakati rabva, munhu uya akanga ari mbeveve akataura, uye vazhinji vakashamiswa nazvo.
Now Jesus was casting out a demon that made a certain man mute. When the demon came out, the mute man began to speak, and the crowds were amazed.
15 Asi vamwe vavo vakati, “Anodzinga dhimoni naBheerizebhubhi, muchinda mukuru wamadhimoni.”
But some of them said, “By Beelzebul, the ruler of demons, he casts out demons.”
16 Vamwewo vakamuedza nokumukumbira chiratidzo.
Others were asking him for a sign from heaven, to test him.
17 Jesu akaziva ndangariro dzavo akati kwavari, “Umambo hupi zvahwo hunozvipesanisa huchaparadzwa, uye imba inozvipesanisa ichawa.
Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a house divided against itself falls.
18 Kana Satani achizvipesanisa, umambo hwake hungamira seiko? Ndinotaura izvi nokuti munonditi ndinobudisa madhimoni naBheerizebhubhi.
So if Satan is also divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul.
19 Zvino kana ndichibudisa madhimoni naBheerizebhubhi, ko, vanakomana venyu vanoabudisa naani? Saka zvino, ivo vachava vatongi venyu.
Now if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your followers cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges.
20 Asi kana ndichidzinga madhimoni nomunwe waMwari, ipapo umambo hwaMwari hwasvika kwamuri.
But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
21 “Kana munhu ane simba, akanyatsoshonga nhumbi dzake dzokurwa, akachengeta imba yake, pfuma yake inochengetedzeka.
When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his possessions are secure.
22 Asi kana mumwe ane simba akamurwisa uye akamukunda, anomutorera nhumbi dzokurwa dzaanga achivimba nadzo agogova zvaanenge apamba.
But when a stronger man attacks and overpowers him, he takes away all the armor in which the man trusted and then distributes the plunder.
23 “Ani naani asiri kudivi rangu anorwa neni, uye asingaunganidzi pamwe chete neni, anoparadzira.
Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
24 “Kana mweya wakaipa ukabuda mumunhu, unopinda nomunzvimbo dzakaoma uchitsvaka zororo ugorishayiwa. Ipapo unoti, ‘Ndichadzokera kumba kwandakabva.’
“When an unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it goes through waterless places seeking rest. But when it does not find any, it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’
25 Paunosvika, unowana imba yakatsvairwa, yanaka uye igere zvakanaka.
When it arrives, it finds the house swept and put in order.
26 Ipapo unobuda wondotsvaka mimwe mweya minomwe yakaipa kupfuura iwo, igopinda yondogaramo. Uye magumo omunhu uyo akaipa kupfuura okutanga.”
Then it goes and takes along seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go and dwell there, and the last state of that person becomes worse than the first.”
27 Jesu akati achiri kutaura zvinhu izvi, mumwe mukadzi aiva pakati pavanhu vazhinji akadanidzira achiti, “Vakaropafadzwa mai vakakuzvarai vakakuyamwisai.”
As Jesus was saying these things, a woman from among the crowd lifted up her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore yoʋ, and the breasts at which yoʋ nursed.”
28 Akapindura akati, “Asi vakaropafadzwa avo vanonzwa shoko raMwari uye vachiriteerera.”
But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
29 Vanhu vakati vachiwanda, Jesu akati kwavari, “Rudzi urwu rwakaipa. Runokumbira chiratidzo, asi harungapiwi chiratidzo kunze kwechaJona.
Now as the crowds were increasing, Jesus began to say, “This generation is evil. It asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.
30 Nokuti sezvo Jona akanga ari chiratidzo kuvaNinevhe, saizvozvowo ndizvo zvichaita Mwanakomana woMunhu kurudzi urwu.
For just as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so also will the Son of Man be to this generation.
31 Mambokadzi weZasi achasimuka pakutongwa navarume vorudzi urwu agovapa mhosva; nokuti akabva kumagumo enyika kuzonzwa uchenjeri hwaSoromoni, zvino mukuru kuna Soromoni ari pano.
The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.
32 Varume veNinevhe vachasimuka pakutongwa norudzi urwu vagorupa mhosva; nokuti ivo vakatendeuka pakuparidza kwaJona, zvino mukuru kuna Jona ari pano.
The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.
33 “Hakuna munhu anotungidza mwenje agouisa panzvimbo yakavanda, kana pasi pedengu. Asi anouisa pachigadziko, kuitira kuti vose vanopinda mumba vaone chiedza.
“No one lights a lamp and puts it in a hidden place or under a basket. Instead, it is put on a lampstand, so that those who come in can see its light.
34 Ziso rako ndiwo mwenje womuviri wako. Kana meso ako akanaka, muviri wako wosewo uzere nechiedza. Asi kana akaipa, muviri wakowo uzere nerima.
The lamp of the body is the eye. So when yoʋr eye is clear, yoʋr whole body is full of light. But when yoʋr eye is bad, yoʋr body is full of darkness.
35 Chenjererai kuti chiedza chiri mamuri chirege kuva rima.
Therefore make sure that the light within yoʋ is not darkness.
36 Naizvozvo kana muviri wako wose uzere nechiedza, uye pasina chikamu chawo chine rima, uchavhenekerwa zvakakwana, sezvinoita chiedza chomwenje pachinovhenekera pauri.”
If then yoʋr whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be entirely light, like when a lamp gives yoʋ light with its rays.”
37 Jesu akati apedza kutaura, mumwe muFarisi akamukoka kuti azodya naye; saka akaenda, akapinda akagara naye pakudya.
As Jesus was speaking, a Pharisee invited him to have a meal with him, so Jesus went in and reclined at the table.
38 Asi muFarisi akaona kuti Jesu akanga asina kutanga ageza asati adya, zvikamushamisa.
The Pharisee was amazed when he saw that Jesus did not first perform the ritual washing before the meal.
39 Ipapo Ishe akati kwaari, “Zvino, imi vaFarisi munosuka kunze kwomukombe nendiro, asi mukati menyu muzere nokukara nokuipa.
So the Lord said to him, “You Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and the platter, but inside you are filled with thoughts of robbery and wickedness.
40 Imi mapenzi avanhu! Ko, akaita kunze haaziye akaitawo nomukati here?
You fools! Did not he who made the outside also make the inside?
41 Asi ipai zviri mukati mendiro sezvipo kuvarombo, uye ipapo zvose zvichava zvakachena kwamuri.
But give as alms the things that are on the inside, and behold, everything will be clean for you.
42 “Mune nhamo imi vaFarisi, nokuti munopa kuna Mwari chegumi chemindi, nerui nezvimwe zvirimwa zvomubindu romuriwo, asi muchirega kururamisira, norudo rwaMwari. Maifanira kuzviita izvi musingasiyi zvokutanga zvisati zvaitwa.
“But woe to you, Pharisees! For you tithe mint, rue, and every herb, yet you ignore justice and the love of God. These you ought to have practiced without neglecting the other things.
43 “Mune nhamo imi vaFarisi, nokuti munoda zvigaro zvapamusoro mumasinagoge nokukwaziswa pamisika.”
Woe to you, Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces.
44 “Mune nhamo imi, nokuti makaita samakuva asina mucherechedzo, vanhu vanofamba napamusoro pawo vasingazvizivi.”
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like unmarked graves, which people walk over without realizing it.”
45 Mumwe wavadudziri vomurayiro akamupindura akati, “Mudzidzisi, kana muchitaura izvi, munotuka nesuwo.”
In response one of the lawyers said to him, “Teacher, by saying these things, yoʋ insult us as well.”
46 Jesu akapindura akati, “Mune nhamo nemiwo vadudziri vomurayiro, nokuti munoremedza vanhu nemitoro yavasingagoni kutakura, asi imi pachenyu hamutongosimudzi munwe wenyu kuti muvabatsire.
But Jesus said, “Woe also to you lawyers! For you burden people with burdens that are hard to bear, but you yourselves do not touch the burdens with even one of your fingers.
47 “Mune nhamo imi, nokuti munovaka marinda avaprofita, uye madzitateguru enyu ariwo akavauraya.
Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, but it was your fathers who killed them.
48 Saka muri kupupura kuti munotenderana nezvakaitwa namadzitateguru enyu; vakauraya vaprofita uye imi munovaka marinda avo.
So you bear witness to and approve of the works of your fathers; for they killed the prophets, and you build their tombs.
49 Nokuda kwaizvozvo, Mwari muuchenjeri hwake akati, ‘Ndichatumira vaprofita navapostori, vamwe vavo vachavauraya uye vachatambudza vamwe.’
That is why the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and some of whom they will persecute.’
50 Naizvozvo rudzi urwu ruchava nemhosva yeropa ravaprofita vose, rakadeurwa kubva pakuvamba kwenyika,
As a result, this generation will be held accountable for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed from the foundation of the world,
51 kubva paropa raAbheri kusvikira kuropa raZekaria, uyo akaurayiwa pakati pearitari neimba tsvene. Hongu, ndinoti kwamuri, rudzi urwu ruchava nemhosva yezvinhu izvi zvose.
from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the house of God. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held accountable.
52 “Mune nhamo imi, vadudziri vomurayiro, nokuti makabvisa kiyi yokuziva. Imi pachenyu hamuna kupinda, uye makadzivisa vaya vakanga vachipinda.”
Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge. You yourselves have not entered, and you have hindered those who were trying to enter.”
53 Jesu akati abva ipapo, vaFarisi navadzidzisi vomurayiro vakatanga kumupikisa zvikuru nokumubvunza mibvunzo yakawanda,
As he was saying these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to oppose him fiercely and to question him closely about many things,
54 vachimirira kuti vamubate pane zvaaizotaura.
lying in wait for him and seeking to catch him in some word coming out of his mouth, so that they might accuse him.
