1 Još govori Elijuj i reèe:
Moreover Elihu, responded and said: —
2 Misliš li da si pravo rekao: moja je pravda veæa od Božije?
This, dost thou think to be right? Thou hast said—My righteousness is more than GOD’S.
3 Jer si rekao: šta æe mi pomoæi, kaka æe mi biti korist, da ne griješim?
For thou dost say, How can one profit by thee? How can I benefit, more than by my sin?
4 Ja æu odgovoriti tebi i drugovima tvojim s tobom.
I, will answer thee plainly, and thy friends with thee.
5 Pogledaj nebo, i vidi; pogledaj oblake, kako su viši od tebe.
Look at the heavens and see, —and survey the skies—they are higher than thou.
6 Ako griješiš, šta æeš mu uèiniti? ili ako se umnože bezakonja tvoja, šta æeš mu nauditi?
If thou sinnest, what canst thou work against him? Or, if thy transgressions be multiplied, what canst thou do unto him?
7 Ako si pravedan, šta æeš mu dati? ili šta æe primiti iz ruke tvoje?
If thou art righteous, what canst thou give unto him? Or what, at thy hand, can he accept?
8 Èovjeku kakav si može nauditi tvoja zloæa, i sinu èovjeèijemu pomoæi tvoja pravda.
Unto a man like thyself, might thy lawlessness [reach], and, unto a son of the earth-born, thy righteousness.
9 Vapiju od velikoga nasilja kojima se èini, i vièu na ruku silnijeh;
By reason of the multitude of oppressions, [men] make outcry, They cry for help, by reason of the arm of the mighty;
10 A nijedan ne govori: gdje je Bog, stvoritelj moj, koji daje pjesmu noæu;
But none saith—Where is GOD my maker, Who giveth songs in the night;
11 Koji èini te smo razumniji od zvijerja zemaljskoga, i mudriji od ptica nebeskih.
Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and, beyond the bird of the heavens, giveth us wisdom?
12 Tamo vièu s oholosti zlijeh ljudi, ali ne bivaju uslišeni.
There, [men] make outcry, and he answereth not, because of the arrogance of evil-doers.
13 Jer Bog ne sluša taštine, i svemoguæi ne gleda na nju.
Howbeit, vanity, will GOD not hear, Yea, the Almighty, will not regard it.
14 Akamoli kad kažeš: ne vidiš to. Pred njim je sud; èekaj ga.
How much less when thou sayest thou wilt not regard him! The cause, is before him, and thou must wait for him.
15 A sada èim te gnjev pohodi, nije ništa, niti je gledao na sve što si uèinio;
But, now, because it is not so, [thou sayest] —His anger hath punished, and yet hath he not at all known of transgression;
16 Zato Jov naprazno otvora usta svoja, i bezumno umnožava rijeèi.
Thus, Job, vainly openeth his mouth, Without knowledge, he multiplieth words.
