ரோமிண: 4
1 அஸ்மாகம்’ பூர்வ்வபுருஷ இப்³ராஹீம் காயிகக்ரியயா கிம்’ லப்³த⁴வாந் ஏதத³தி⁴ கிம்’ வதி³ஷ்யாம: ?
What then shall we say that our father Abraham discovered, as a man?
2 ஸ யதி³ நிஜக்ரியாப்⁴ய: ஸபுண்யோ ப⁴வேத் தர்ஹி தஸ்யாத்மஸ்²லாகா⁴ம்’ கர்த்தும்’ பந்தா² ப⁴வேதி³தி ஸத்யம்’, கிந்த்வீஸ்²வரஸ்ய ஸமீபே நஹி|
If Abraham was really justified by works, he has a boast—but not before God.
3 ஸா²ஸ்த்ரே கிம்’ லிக²தி? இப்³ராஹீம் ஈஸ்²வரே விஸ்²வஸநாத் ஸ விஸ்²வாஸஸ்தஸ்மை புண்யார்த²ம்’ க³ணிதோ ப³பூ⁴வ|
So what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”
4 கர்ம்மகாரிணோ யத்³ வேதநம்’ தத்³ அநுக்³ரஹஸ்ய ப²லம்’ நஹி கிந்து தேநோபார்ஜிதம்’ மந்தவ்யம்|
Now to him who works, the pay is not counted as a gift but as an obligation.
5 கிந்து ய: பாபிநம்’ ஸபுண்யீகரோதி தஸ்மிந் விஸ்²வாஸிந: கர்ம்மஹீநஸ்ய ஜநஸ்ய யோ விஸ்²வாஸ: ஸ புண்யார்த²ம்’ க³ண்யோ ப⁴வதி|
But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness.
6 அபரம்’ யம்’ க்ரியாஹீநம் ஈஸ்²வர: ஸபுண்யீகரோதி தஸ்ய த⁴ந்யவாத³ம்’ தா³யூத்³ வர்ணயாமாஸ, யதா²,
Just as David speaks of the blessing of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
7 ஸ த⁴ந்யோ(அ)கா⁴நி ம்ரு’ஷ்டாநி யஸ்யாகா³ம்’ஸ்யாவ்ரு’தாநி ச|
“Blessed are they whose lawless deeds have been forgiven, and whose sins have been covered up.
8 ஸ ச த⁴ந்ய: பரேஸே²ந பாபம்’ யஸ்ய ந க³ண்யதே|
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin!”
9 ஏஷ த⁴ந்யவாத³ஸ்த்வக்சே²தி³நம் அத்வக்சே²தி³நம்’ வா கம்’ ப்ரதி ப⁴வதி? இப்³ராஹீமோ விஸ்²வாஸ: புண்யார்த²ம்’ க³ணித இதி வயம்’ வதா³ம: |
Is this blessing then only for the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised? Since we say that faith was credited to Abraham as righteousness,
10 ஸ விஸ்²வாஸஸ்தஸ்ய த்வக்சே²தி³த்வாவஸ்தா²யாம்’ கிம் அத்வக்சே²தி³த்வாவஸ்தா²யாம்’ கஸ்மிந் ஸமயே புண்யமிவ க³ணித: ? த்வக்சே²தி³த்வாவஸ்தா²யாம்’ நஹி கிந்த்வத்வக்சே²தி³த்வாவஸ்தா²யாம்’|
how then was it credited? After he was circumcised or while still uncircumcised? Not circumcised, but uncircumcised!
11 அபரஞ்ச ஸ யத் ஸர்வ்வேஷாம் அத்வக்சே²தி³நாம்’ விஸ்²வாஸிநாம் ஆதி³புருஷோ ப⁴வேத், தே ச புண்யவத்த்வேந க³ண்யேரந்;
And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness from his faith while still uncircumcised, so that he might be the father of all those who believe while uncircumcised, in order that this righteousness may be credited to them also,
12 யே ச லோகா: கேவலம்’ சி²ந்நத்வசோ ந ஸந்தோ (அ)ஸ்மத்பூர்வ்வபுருஷ இப்³ராஹீம் அசி²ந்நத்வக் ஸந் யேந விஸ்²வாஸமார்கே³ண க³தவாந் தேநைவ தஸ்ய பாத³சிஹ்நேந க³ச்ச²ந்தி தேஷாம்’ த்வக்சே²தி³நாமப்யாதி³புருஷோ ப⁴வேத் தத³ர்த²ம் அத்வக்சே²தி³நோ மாநவஸ்ய விஸ்²வாஸாத் புண்யம் உத்பத்³யத இதி ப்ரமாணஸ்வரூபம்’ த்வக்சே²த³சிஹ்நம்’ ஸ ப்ராப்நோத்|
and the father of the circumcised—not only those who are circumcised, but especially those who follow in the footsteps of the faith of our father Abraham while still uncircumcised.
13 இப்³ராஹீம் ஜக³தோ(அ)தி⁴காரீ ப⁴விஷ்யதி யைஷா ப்ரதிஜ்ஞா தம்’ தஸ்ய வம்’ஸ²ஞ்ச ப்ரதி பூர்வ்வம் அக்ரியத ஸா வ்யவஸ்தா²மூலிகா நஹி கிந்து விஸ்²வாஸஜந்யபுண்யமூலிகா|
Now the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham, or his seed, through law, but through the righteousness of faith.
14 யதோ வ்யவஸ்தா²வலம்பி³நோ யத்³யதி⁴காரிணோ ப⁴வந்தி தர்ஹி விஸ்²வாஸோ விப²லோ ஜாயதே ஸா ப்ரதிஜ்ஞாபி லுப்தைவ|
For if those who are of law are heirs, the faith is made empty and the promise has been invalidated;
15 அதி⁴கந்து வ்யவஸ்தா² கோபம்’ ஜநயதி யதோ (அ)வித்³யமாநாயாம்’ வ்யவஸ்தா²யாம் ஆஜ்ஞாலங்க⁴நம்’ ந ஸம்ப⁴வதி|
because the law produces wrath, since where there is no law neither is there transgression.
16 அதஏவ ஸா ப்ரதிஜ்ஞா யத்³ அநுக்³ரஹஸ்ய ப²லம்’ ப⁴வேத் தத³ர்த²ம்’ விஸ்²வாஸமூலிகா யதஸ்ததா²த்வே தத்³வம்’ஸ²ஸமுதா³யம்’ ப்ரதி அர்த²தோ யே வ்யவஸ்த²யா தத்³வம்’ஸ²ஸம்ப⁴வா: கேவலம்’ தாந் ப்ரதி நஹி கிந்து ய இப்³ராஹீமீயவிஸ்²வாஸேந தத்ஸம்ப⁴வாஸ்தாநபி ப்ரதி ஸா ப்ரதிஜ்ஞா ஸ்தா²ஸ்நுர்ப⁴வதி|
For this reason it is of faith so that it may be according to grace, in order that the promise be guaranteed to all the seed—not only to those of law, but also to those of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all;
17 யோ நிர்ஜீவாந் ஸஜீவாந் அவித்³யமாநாநி வஸ்தூநி ச வித்³யமாநாநி கரோதி இப்³ராஹீமோ விஸ்²வாஸபூ⁴மேஸ்தஸ்யேஸ்²வரஸ்ய ஸாக்ஷாத் ஸோ(அ)ஸ்மாகம்’ ஸர்வ்வேஷாம் ஆதி³புருஷ ஆஸ்தே, யதா² லிகி²தம்’ வித்³யதே, அஹம்’ த்வாம்’ ப³ஹுஜாதீநாம் ஆதி³புருஷம்’ க்ரு’த்வா நியுக்தவாந்|
just as it is written: “I have made you a father of many ethnic nations”—in the presence of Him whom he believed: God, who gives life to the dead and calls the nonexistent things as though they did exist.
18 த்வதீ³யஸ்தாத்³ரு’ஸோ² வம்’ஸோ² ஜநிஷ்யதே யதி³த³ம்’ வாக்யம்’ ப்ரதிஸ்²ருதம்’ தத³நுஸாராத்³ இப்³ராஹீம் ப³ஹுதே³ஸீ²யலோகாநாம் ஆதி³புருஷோ யத்³ ப⁴வதி தத³ர்த²ம்’ ஸோ(அ)நபேக்ஷிதவ்யமப்யபேக்ஷமாணோ விஸ்²வாஸம்’ க்ரு’தவாந்|
Contrary to hope, Abraham in hope believed, so as to become a father of many ethnic nations, according to what had been spoken: “So shall your seed be.”
19 அபரஞ்ச க்ஷீணவிஸ்²வாஸோ ந பூ⁴த்வா ஸ²தவத்ஸரவயஸ்கத்வாத் ஸ்வஸ²ரீரஸ்ய ஜராம்’ ஸாராநாம்ந: ஸ்வபா⁴ர்ய்யாயா ரஜோநிவ்ரு’த்திஞ்ச த்ரு’ணாய ந மேநே|
And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (being about a hundred years old), or the deadness of Sarah's womb.
20 அபரம் அவிஸ்²வாஸாத்³ ஈஸ்²வரஸ்ய ப்ரதிஜ்ஞாவசநே கமபி ஸம்’ஸ²யம்’ ந சகார;
He did not waver at God's promise in unbelief; rather, he was strengthened by the faith, giving glory to God,
21 கிந்த்வீஸ்²வரேண யத் ப்ரதிஸ்²ருதம்’ தத் ஸாத⁴யிதும்’ ஸ²க்யத இதி நிஸ்²சிதம்’ விஜ்ஞாய த்³ரு’ட⁴விஸ்²வாஸ: ஸந் ஈஸ்²வரஸ்ய மஹிமாநம்’ ப்ரகாஸ²யாஞ்சகார|
being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform
22 இதி ஹேதோஸ்தஸ்ய ஸ விஸ்²வாஸஸ்ததீ³யபுண்யமிவ க³ணயாஞ்சக்ரே|
—that is why it was credited to him as righteousness.
23 புண்யமிவாக³ண்யத தத் கேவலஸ்ய தஸ்ய நிமித்தம்’ லிகி²தம்’ நஹி, அஸ்மாகம்’ நிமித்தமபி,
Now it was not only for his sake that it was written that it was credited to him,
24 யதோ(அ)ஸ்மாகம்’ பாபநாஸா²ர்த²ம்’ ஸமர்பிதோ(அ)ஸ்மாகம்’ புண்யப்ராப்த்யர்த²ஞ்சோத்தா²பிதோ(அ)ப⁴வத் யோ(அ)ஸ்மாகம்’ ப்ரபு⁴ ர்யீஸு²ஸ்தஸ்யோத்தா²பயிதரீஸ்²வரே
but for our sake also, to whom it will be credited, we who believe on Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,
25 யதி³ வயம்’ விஸ்²வஸாமஸ்தர்ஹ்யஸ்மாகமபி ஸஏவ விஸ்²வாஸ: புண்யமிவ க³ணயிஷ்யதே|
who was delivered up because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification.
