1 ಕೈಸರಿಯಾನಗರ ಇತಾಲಿಯಾಖ್ಯಸೈನ್ಯಾನ್ತರ್ಗತಃ ಕರ್ಣೀಲಿಯನಾಮಾ ಸೇನಾಪತಿರಾಸೀತ್
At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion in the regiment known as the ‘Italian Regiment,’
2 ಸ ಸಪರಿವಾರೋ ಭಕ್ತ ಈಶ್ವರಪರಾಯಣಶ್ಚಾಸೀತ್; ಲೋಕೇಭ್ಯೋ ಬಹೂನಿ ದಾನಾದೀನಿ ದತ್ವಾ ನಿರನ್ತರಮ್ ಈಶ್ವರೇ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಯಾಞ್ಚಕ್ರೇ|
A religious man and one who reverenced God, with all his household. He was liberal in his charities to the people, and prayed to God constantly.
3 ಏಕದಾ ತೃತೀಯಪ್ರಹರವೇಲಾಯಾಂ ಸ ದೃಷ್ಟವಾನ್ ಈಶ್ವರಸ್ಯೈಕೋ ದೂತಃ ಸಪ್ರಕಾಶಂ ತತ್ಸಮೀಪಮ್ ಆಗತ್ಯ ಕಥಿತವಾನ್, ಹೇ ಕರ್ಣೀಲಿಯ|
One afternoon, about three o’clock, he distinctly saw in a vision an angel from God come to him, and call him by name.
4 ಕಿನ್ತು ಸ ತಂ ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ಭೀತೋಽಕಥಯತ್, ಹೇ ಪ್ರಭೋ ಕಿಂ? ತದಾ ತಮವದತ್ ತವ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನಾ ದಾನಾದಿ ಚ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಸ್ವರೂಪಂ ಭೂತ್ವೇಶ್ವರಸ್ಯ ಗೋಚರಮಭವತ್|
Cornelius fixed his eyes on him and, in great alarm, said, “What is it, Lord?” “Your prayers and your charities,” the angel answered, “have been an acceptable offering to God.
5 ಇದಾನೀಂ ಯಾಫೋನಗರಂ ಪ್ರತಿ ಲೋಕಾನ್ ಪ್ರೇಷ್ಯ ಸಮುದ್ರತೀರೇ ಶಿಮೋನ್ನಾಮ್ನಶ್ಚರ್ಮ್ಮಕಾರಸ್ಯ ಗೃಹೇ ಪ್ರವಾಸಕಾರೀ ಪಿತರನಾಮ್ನಾ ವಿಖ್ಯಾತೋ ಯಃ ಶಿಮೋನ್ ತಮ್ ಆಹ್ವಾಯಯ;
And now, send messengers to Joppa and fetch a man called Simon, who is also known as Peter.
6 ತಸ್ಮಾತ್ ತ್ವಯಾ ಯದ್ಯತ್ ಕರ್ತ್ತವ್ಯಂ ತತ್ತತ್ ಸ ವದಿಷ್ಯತಿ|
He is lodging with a tanner named Simon, who has a house near the sea.”
7 ಇತ್ಯುಪದಿಶ್ಯ ದೂತೇ ಪ್ರಸ್ಥಿತೇ ಸತಿ ಕರ್ಣೀಲಿಯಃ ಸ್ವಗೃಹಸ್ಥಾನಾಂ ದಾಸಾನಾಂ ದ್ವೌ ಜನೌ ನಿತ್ಯಂ ಸ್ವಸಙ್ಗಿನಾಂ ಸೈನ್ಯಾನಾಮ್ ಏಕಾಂ ಭಕ್ತಸೇನಾಞ್ಚಾಹೂಯ
When the angel, who had spoken to him, had gone, Cornelius called two servants and a religious soldier, who was one of his constant attendants,
8 ಸಕಲಮೇತಂ ವೃತ್ತಾನ್ತಂ ವಿಜ್ಞಾಪ್ಯ ಯಾಫೋನಗರಂ ತಾನ್ ಪ್ರಾಹಿಣೋತ್|
and, after telling them the whole story, sent them to Joppa.
9 ಪರಸ್ಮಿನ್ ದಿನೇ ತೇ ಯಾತ್ರಾಂ ಕೃತ್ವಾ ಯದಾ ನಗರಸ್ಯ ಸಮೀಪ ಉಪಾತಿಷ್ಠನ್, ತದಾ ಪಿತರೋ ದ್ವಿತೀಯಪ್ರಹರವೇಲಾಯಾಂ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಯಿತುಂ ಗೃಹಪೃಷ್ಠಮ್ ಆರೋಹತ್|
On the next day, while these men were on their way, just as they were nearing the town, Peter went up on the housetop about midday to pray.
10 ಏತಸ್ಮಿನ್ ಸಮಯೇ ಕ್ಷುಧಾರ್ತ್ತಃ ಸನ್ ಕಿಞ್ಚಿದ್ ಭೋಕ್ತುಮ್ ಐಚ್ಛತ್ ಕಿನ್ತು ತೇಷಾಮ್ ಅನ್ನಾಸಾದನಸಮಯೇ ಸ ಮೂರ್ಚ್ಛಿತಃ ಸನ್ನಪತತ್|
He became hungry and wanted something to eat; but while it was being prepared, he fell into a trance,
11 ತತೋ ಮೇಘದ್ವಾರಂ ಮುಕ್ತಂ ಚತುರ್ಭಿಃ ಕೋಣೈ ರ್ಲಮ್ಬಿತಂ ಬೃಹದ್ವಸ್ತ್ರಮಿವ ಕಿಞ್ಚನ ಭಾಜನಮ್ ಆಕಾಶಾತ್ ಪೃಥಿವೀಮ್ ಅವಾರೋಹತೀತಿ ದೃಷ್ಟವಾನ್|
and saw that the heavens were open, and that something like a great sail was descending, let down by its four corners towards the earth.
12 ತನ್ಮಧ್ಯೇ ನಾನಪ್ರಕಾರಾ ಗ್ರಾಮ್ಯವನ್ಯಪಶವಃ ಖೇಚರೋರೋಗಾಮಿಪ್ರಭೃತಯೋ ಜನ್ತವಶ್ಚಾಸನ್|
In it were all kinds of quadrupeds, reptiles, and birds.
13 ಅನನ್ತರಂ ಹೇ ಪಿತರ ಉತ್ಥಾಯ ಹತ್ವಾ ಭುಂಕ್ಷ್ವ ತಮ್ಪ್ರತೀಯಂ ಗಗಣೀಯಾ ವಾಣೀ ಜಾತಾ|
Then he was aware of a voice which said – “Stand up, Peter, kill something, and eat.”
14 ತದಾ ಪಿತರಃ ಪ್ರತ್ಯವದತ್, ಹೇ ಪ್ರಭೋ ಈದೃಶಂ ಮಾ ಭವತು, ಅಹಮ್ ಏತತ್ ಕಾಲಂ ಯಾವತ್ ನಿಷಿದ್ಧಮ್ ಅಶುಚಿ ವಾ ದ್ರವ್ಯಂ ಕಿಞ್ಚಿದಪಿ ನ ಭುಕ್ತವಾನ್|
“No, Lord, I cannot,” answered Peter, “for I have never eaten anything defiled and unclean.”
15 ತತಃ ಪುನರಪಿ ತಾದೃಶೀ ವಿಹಯಸೀಯಾ ವಾಣೀ ಜಾತಾ ಯದ್ ಈಶ್ವರಃ ಶುಚಿ ಕೃತವಾನ್ ತತ್ ತ್ವಂ ನಿಷಿದ್ಧಂ ನ ಜಾನೀಹಿ|
Again he was aware of a voice which said – “What God has pronounced clean, do not regard as defiled.”
16 ಇತ್ಥಂ ತ್ರಿಃ ಸತಿ ತತ್ ಪಾತ್ರಂ ಪುನರಾಕೃಷ್ಟಂ ಆಕಾಶಮ್ ಅಗಚ್ಛತ್|
This happened three times, and then suddenly it was all taken up into the heavens.
17 ತತಃ ಪರಂ ಯದ್ ದರ್ಶನಂ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತವಾನ್ ತಸ್ಯ ಕೋ ಭಾವ ಇತ್ಯತ್ರ ಪಿತರೋ ಮನಸಾ ಸನ್ದೇಗ್ಧಿ, ಏತಸ್ಮಿನ್ ಸಮಯೇ ಕರ್ಣೀಲಿಯಸ್ಯ ತೇ ಪ್ರೇಷಿತಾ ಮನುಷ್ಯಾ ದ್ವಾರಸ್ಯ ಸನ್ನಿಧಾವುಪಸ್ಥಾಯ,
While Peter was still perplexed as to the meaning of the vision that he had seen, the men sent by Cornelius, having enquired the way to Simon’s house, came up to the gate,
18 ಶಿಮೋನೋ ಗೃಹಮನ್ವಿಚ್ಛನ್ತಃ ಸಮ್ಪೃಛ್ಯಾಹೂಯ ಕಥಿತವನ್ತಃ ಪಿತರನಾಮ್ನಾ ವಿಖ್ಯಾತೋ ಯಃ ಶಿಮೋನ್ ಸ ಕಿಮತ್ರ ಪ್ರವಸತಿ?
and called out and asked if the Simon, who was also known as Peter, was lodging there.
19 ಯದಾ ಪಿತರಸ್ತದ್ದರ್ಶನಸ್ಯ ಭಾವಂ ಮನಸಾನ್ದೋಲಯತಿ ತದಾತ್ಮಾ ತಮವದತ್, ಪಶ್ಯ ತ್ರಯೋ ಜನಾಸ್ತ್ವಾಂ ಮೃಗಯನ್ತೇ|
Peter was still pondering over the vision, when the Spirit said to him, “There are two men looking for you at this moment.
20 ತ್ವಮ್ ಉತ್ಥಾಯಾವರುಹ್ಯ ನಿಃಸನ್ದೇಹಂ ತೈಃ ಸಹ ಗಚ್ಛ ಮಯೈವ ತೇ ಪ್ರೇಷಿತಾಃ|
Go down at once and do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”
21 ತಸ್ಮಾತ್ ಪಿತರೋಽವರುಹ್ಯ ಕರ್ಣೀಲಿಯಪ್ರೇರಿತಲೋಕಾನಾಂ ನಿಕಟಮಾಗತ್ಯ ಕಥಿತವಾನ್ ಪಶ್ಯತ ಯೂಯಂ ಯಂ ಮೃಗಯಧ್ವೇ ಸ ಜನೋಹಂ, ಯೂಯಂ ಕಿನ್ನಿಮಿತ್ತಮ್ ಆಗತಾಃ?
Peter went down to the men and said, “I am the person you are looking for. What is your reason for coming?”
22 ತತಸ್ತೇ ಪ್ರತ್ಯವದನ್ ಕರ್ಣೀಲಿಯನಾಮಾ ಶುದ್ಧಸತ್ತ್ವ ಈಶ್ವರಪರಾಯಣೋ ಯಿಹೂದೀಯದೇಶಸ್ಥಾನಾಂ ಸರ್ವ್ವೇಷಾಂ ಸನ್ನಿಧೌ ಸುಖ್ಯಾತ್ಯಾಪನ್ನ ಏಕಃ ಸೇನಾಪತಿ ರ್ನಿಜಗೃಹಂ ತ್ವಾಮಾಹೂಯ ನೇತುಂ ತ್ವತ್ತಃ ಕಥಾ ಶ್ರೋತುಞ್ಚ ಪವಿತ್ರದೂತೇನ ಸಮಾದಿಷ್ಟಃ|
The men replied, “Our centurion, Cornelius, a pious man who reverences God and is well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, has been instructed by a holy angel to send for you to his house, and to listen to what you have to say.”
23 ತದಾ ಪಿತರಸ್ತಾನಭ್ಯನ್ತರಂ ನೀತ್ವಾ ತೇಷಾಮಾತಿಥ್ಯಂ ಕೃತವಾನ್, ಪರೇಽಹನಿ ತೈಃ ಸಾರ್ದ್ಧಂ ಯಾತ್ರಾಮಕರೋತ್, ಯಾಫೋನಿವಾಸಿನಾಂ ಭ್ರಾತೃಣಾಂ ಕಿಯನ್ತೋ ಜನಾಶ್ಚ ತೇನ ಸಹ ಗತಾಃ|
So Peter invited them in and entertained them. The next day he lost no time in setting out with them, accompanied by some of the Lord’s followers from Joppa;
24 ಪರಸ್ಮಿನ್ ದಿವಸೇ ಕೈಸರಿಯಾನಗರಮಧ್ಯಪ್ರವೇಶಸಮಯೇ ಕರ್ಣೀಲಿಯೋ ಜ್ಞಾತಿಬನ್ಧೂನ್ ಆಹೂಯಾನೀಯ ತಾನ್ ಅಪೇಕ್ಷ್ಯ ಸ್ಥಿತಃ|
and the day following he entered Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them, and had invited his relatives and intimate friends to meet them.
25 ಪಿತರೇ ಗೃಹ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತೇ ಕರ್ಣೀಲಿಯಸ್ತಂ ಸಾಕ್ಷಾತ್ಕೃತ್ಯ ಚರಣಯೋಃ ಪತಿತ್ವಾ ಪ್ರಾಣಮತ್|
So, when Peter entered the city, Cornelius met him, and, throwing himself at Peter’s feet, bowed to the ground.
26 ಪಿತರಸ್ತಮುತ್ಥಾಪ್ಯ ಕಥಿತವಾನ್, ಉತ್ತಿಷ್ಠಾಹಮಪಿ ಮಾನುಷಃ|
Peter, however, lifted him up, saying as he did so, “Stand up, I am only human like yourself.”
27 ತದಾ ಕರ್ಣೀಲಿಯೇನ ಸಾಕಮ್ ಆಲಪನ್ ಗೃಹಂ ಪ್ರಾವಿಶತ್ ತನ್ಮಧ್ಯೇ ಚ ಬಹುಲೋಕಾನಾಂ ಸಮಾಗಮಂ ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ತಾನ್ ಅವದತ್,
Talking with him as he went, Peter entered the house, where he found a large gathering of people, to whom he said,
28 ಅನ್ಯಜಾತೀಯಲೋಕೈಃ ಮಹಾಲಪನಂ ವಾ ತೇಷಾಂ ಗೃಹಮಧ್ಯೇ ಪ್ರವೇಶನಂ ಯಿಹೂದೀಯಾನಾಂ ನಿಷಿದ್ಧಮ್ ಅಸ್ತೀತಿ ಯೂಯಮ್ ಅವಗಚ್ಛಥ; ಕಿನ್ತು ಕಮಪಿ ಮಾನುಷಮ್ ಅವ್ಯವಹಾರ್ಯ್ಯಮ್ ಅಶುಚಿಂ ವಾ ಜ್ಞಾತುಂ ಮಮ ನೋಚಿತಮ್ ಇತಿ ಪರಮೇಶ್ವರೋ ಮಾಂ ಜ್ಞಾಪಿತವಾನ್|
“You are doubtless aware that it is forbidden for a Jew to be intimate with a foreigner, or even to enter his house; and yet God has shown me that I ought not to call anyone defiled or unclean.
29 ಇತಿ ಹೇತೋರಾಹ್ವಾನಶ್ರವಣಮಾತ್ರಾತ್ ಕಾಞ್ಚನಾಪತ್ತಿಮ್ ಅಕೃತ್ವಾ ಯುಷ್ಮಾಕಂ ಸಮೀಪಮ್ ಆಗತೋಸ್ಮಿ; ಪೃಚ್ಛಾಮಿ ಯೂಯಂ ಕಿನ್ನಿಮಿತ್ತಂ ಮಾಮ್ ಆಹೂಯತ?
That was why I came, when I was sent for, without raising any objection. And now I ask your reason for sending for me.”
30 ತದಾ ಕರ್ಣೀಲಿಯಃ ಕಥಿತವಾನ್, ಅದ್ಯ ಚತ್ವಾರಿ ದಿನಾನಿ ಜಾತಾನಿ ಏತಾವದ್ವೇಲಾಂ ಯಾವದ್ ಅಹಮ್ ಅನಾಹಾರ ಆಸನ್ ತತಸ್ತೃತೀಯಪ್ರಹರೇ ಸತಿ ಗೃಹೇ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನಸಮಯೇ ತೇಜೋಮಯವಸ್ತ್ರಭೃದ್ ಏಕೋ ಜನೋ ಮಮ ಸಮಕ್ಷಂ ತಿಷ್ಠನ್ ಏತಾಂ ಕಥಾಮ್ ಅಕಥಯತ್,
“Just three days ago this very hour,” Cornelius said, “I was in my house, saying the Afternoon Prayers, when a man in dazzling clothing suddenly stood before me.
31 ಹೇ ಕರ್ಣೀಲಿಯ ತ್ವದೀಯಾ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನಾ ಈಶ್ವರಸ್ಯ ಕರ್ಣಗೋಚರೀಭೂತಾ ತವ ದಾನಾದಿ ಚ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಸ್ವರೂಪಂ ಭೂತ್ವಾ ತಸ್ಯ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಗೋಚರಮಭವತ್|
‘Cornelius,’ he said, ‘your prayer has been heard, and your charities have been accepted, by God.
32 ಅತೋ ಯಾಫೋನಗರಂ ಪ್ರತಿ ಲೋಕಾನ್ ಪ್ರಹಿತ್ಯ ತತ್ರ ಸಮುದ್ರತೀರೇ ಶಿಮೋನ್ನಾಮ್ನಃ ಕಸ್ಯಚಿಚ್ಚರ್ಮ್ಮಕಾರಸ್ಯ ಗೃಹೇ ಪ್ರವಾಸಕಾರೀ ಪಿತರನಾಮ್ನಾ ವಿಖ್ಯಾತೋ ಯಃ ಶಿಮೋನ್ ತಮಾಹೂಯಯ; ತತಃ ಸ ಆಗತ್ಯ ತ್ವಾಮ್ ಉಪದೇಕ್ಷ್ಯತಿ|
Therefore send to Joppa, and invite the Simon, who is also known as Peter, to come here. He is lodging in the house of Simon the tanner, near the sea.’
33 ಇತಿ ಕಾರಣಾತ್ ತತ್ಕ್ಷಣಾತ್ ತವ ನಿಕಟೇ ಲೋಕಾನ್ ಪ್ರೇಷಿತವಾನ್, ತ್ವಮಾಗತವಾನ್ ಇತಿ ಭದ್ರಂ ಕೃತವಾನ್| ಈಶ್ವರೋ ಯಾನ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಾನಿ ಕಥಯಿತುಮ್ ಆದಿಶತ್ ತಾನಿ ಶ್ರೋತುಂ ವಯಂ ಸರ್ವ್ವೇ ಸಾಮ್ಪ್ರತಮ್ ಈಶ್ವರಸ್ಯ ಸಾಕ್ಷಾದ್ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತಾಃ ಸ್ಮಃ|
Accordingly I sent to you at once, and you have been so good as to come. And now we are all here in the presence of God, to listen to all that you have been instructed by the Lord to say.”
34 ತದಾ ಪಿತರ ಇಮಾಂ ಕಥಾಂ ಕಥಯಿತುಮ್ ಆರಬ್ಧವಾನ್, ಈಶ್ವರೋ ಮನುಷ್ಯಾಣಾಮ್ ಅಪಕ್ಷಪಾತೀ ಸನ್
Then Peter began. “I see, beyond all doubt,” he said, “that God does not show partiality,
35 ಯಸ್ಯ ಕಸ್ಯಚಿದ್ ದೇಶಸ್ಯ ಯೋ ಲೋಕಾಸ್ತಸ್ಮಾದ್ಭೀತ್ವಾ ಸತ್ಕರ್ಮ್ಮ ಕರೋತಿ ಸ ತಸ್ಯ ಗ್ರಾಹ್ಯೋ ಭವತಿ, ಏತಸ್ಯ ನಿಶ್ಚಯಮ್ ಉಪಲಬ್ಧವಾನಹಮ್|
but that in every nation he who reverences him and does what is right is acceptable to him.
36 ಸರ್ವ್ವೇಷಾಂ ಪ್ರಭು ರ್ಯೋ ಯೀಶುಖ್ರೀಷ್ಟಸ್ತೇನ ಈಶ್ವರ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ವಂಶಾನಾಂ ನಿಕಟೇ ಸುಸಂವಾದಂ ಪ್ರೇಷ್ಯ ಸಮ್ಮೇಲನಸ್ಯ ಯಂ ಸಂವಾದಂ ಪ್ರಾಚಾರಯತ್ ತಂ ಸಂವಾದಂ ಯೂಯಂ ಶ್ರುತವನ್ತಃ|
God has sent his message to the Israelites and told them, through Jesus Christ, the good news of peace – and Jesus is Lord of all!
37 ಯತೋ ಯೋಹನಾ ಮಜ್ಜನೇ ಪ್ರಚಾರಿತೇ ಸತಿ ಸ ಗಾಲೀಲದೇಶಮಾರಭ್ಯ ಸಮಸ್ತಯಿಹೂದೀಯದೇಶಂ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ನೋತ್;
You yourselves know the story which spread through all Judea, how, beginning form Galilee, after the baptism which John proclaimed –
38 ಫಲತ ಈಶ್ವರೇಣ ಪವಿತ್ರೇಣಾತ್ಮನಾ ಶಕ್ತ್ಯಾ ಚಾಭಿಷಿಕ್ತೋ ನಾಸರತೀಯಯೀಶುಃ ಸ್ಥಾನೇ ಸ್ಥಾನೇ ಭ್ರಮನ್ ಸುಕ್ರಿಯಾಂ ಕುರ್ವ್ವನ್ ಶೈತಾನಾ ಕ್ಲಿಷ್ಟಾನ್ ಸರ್ವ್ವಲೋಕಾನ್ ಸ್ವಸ್ಥಾನ್ ಅಕರೋತ್, ಯತ ಈಶ್ವರಸ್ತಸ್ಯ ಸಹಾಯ ಆಸೀತ್;
the story, I mean, of Jesus of Nazareth, and how God consecrated him his Christ by enduing him with the Holy Spirit and with power; and how he went about doing good and curing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.
39 ವಯಞ್ಚ ಯಿಹೂದೀಯದೇಶೇ ಯಿರೂಶಾಲಮ್ನಗರೇ ಚ ತೇನ ಕೃತಾನಾಂ ಸರ್ವ್ವೇಷಾಂ ಕರ್ಮ್ಮಣಾಂ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಣೋ ಭವಾಮಃ| ಲೋಕಾಸ್ತಂ ಕ್ರುಶೇ ವಿದ್ಧ್ವಾ ಹತವನ್ತಃ,
We are ourselves, too, witnesses to all that he did in Judea and in Jerusalem; yet they put him to death by hanging him on a cross!
40 ಕಿನ್ತು ತೃತೀಯದಿವಸೇ ಈಶ್ವರಸ್ತಮುತ್ಥಾಪ್ಯ ಸಪ್ರಕಾಶಮ್ ಅದರ್ಶಯತ್|
This Jesus God raised on the third day, and enabled him to appear,
41 ಸರ್ವ್ವಲೋಕಾನಾಂ ನಿಕಟ ಇತಿ ನ ಹಿ, ಕಿನ್ತು ತಸ್ಮಿನ್ ಶ್ಮಶಾನಾದುತ್ಥಿತೇ ಸತಿ ತೇನ ಸಾರ್ದ್ಧಂ ಭೋಜನಂ ಪಾನಞ್ಚ ಕೃತವನ್ತ ಏತಾದೃಶಾ ಈಶ್ವರಸ್ಯ ಮನೋನೀತಾಃ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಣೋ ಯೇ ವಯಮ್ ಅಸ್ಮಾಕಂ ನಿಕಟೇ ತಮದರ್ಶಯತ್|
not indeed to everyone, but to witnesses chosen beforehand by God – to us, who ate and drank with him after his resurrection from the dead.
42 ಜೀವಿತಮೃತೋಭಯಲೋಕಾನಾಂ ವಿಚಾರಂ ಕರ್ತ್ತುಮ್ ಈಶ್ವರೋ ಯಂ ನಿಯುಕ್ತವಾನ್ ಸ ಏವ ಸ ಜನಃ, ಇಮಾಂ ಕಥಾಂ ಪ್ರಚಾರಯಿತುಂ ತಸ್ಮಿನ್ ಪ್ರಮಾಣಂ ದಾತುಞ್ಚ ಸೋಽಸ್ಮಾನ್ ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಯತ್|
Further, God charged us to proclaim to the people, and solemnly affirm, that it is Jesus who has been appointed by God judge of the living and the dead.
43 ಯಸ್ತಸ್ಮಿನ್ ವಿಶ್ವಸಿತಿ ಸ ತಸ್ಯ ನಾಮ್ನಾ ಪಾಪಾನ್ಮುಕ್ತೋ ಭವಿಷ್ಯತಿ ತಸ್ಮಿನ್ ಸರ್ವ್ವೇ ಭವಿಷ್ಯದ್ವಾದಿನೋಪಿ ಏತಾದೃಶಂ ಸಾಕ್ಷ್ಯಂ ದದತಿ|
To him it is that all the prophets bear witness, when they say that everyone who believes in him receives through his name forgiveness of sins.”
44 ಪಿತರಸ್ಯೈತತ್ಕಥಾಕಥನಕಾಲೇ ಸರ್ವ್ವೇಷಾಂ ಶ್ರೋತೃಣಾಮುಪರಿ ಪವಿತ್ರ ಆತ್ಮಾವಾರೋಹತ್|
Before Peter had finished saying these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all who were listening to the message.
45 ತತಃ ಪಿತರೇಣ ಸಾರ್ದ್ಧಮ್ ಆಗತಾಸ್ತ್ವಕ್ಛೇದಿನೋ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸಿನೋ ಲೋಕಾ ಅನ್ಯದೇಶೀಯೇಭ್ಯಃ ಪವಿತ್ರ ಆತ್ಮನಿ ದತ್ತೇ ಸತಿ
Those converts from Judaism, who had come with Peter, were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been bestowed even on the Gentiles;
46 ತೇ ನಾನಾಜಾತೀಯಭಾಷಾಭಿಃ ಕಥಾಂ ಕಥಯನ್ತ ಈಶ್ವರಂ ಪ್ರಶಂಸನ್ತಿ, ಇತಿ ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ಚ ವಿಸ್ಮಯಮ್ ಆಪದ್ಯನ್ತ|
for they heard them speaking in different languages and extolling God. At this Peter asked,
47 ತದಾ ಪಿತರಃ ಕಥಿತವಾನ್, ವಯಮಿವ ಯೇ ಪವಿತ್ರಮ್ ಆತ್ಮಾನಂ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತಾಸ್ತೇಷಾಂ ಜಲಮಜ್ಜನಂ ಕಿಂ ಕೋಪಿ ನಿಷೇದ್ಧುಂ ಶಕ್ನೋತಿ?
“Can anyone refuse the water for the baptism of these people, now that they have received the Holy Spirit as we did ourselves?”
48 ತತಃ ಪ್ರಭೋ ರ್ನಾಮ್ನಾ ಮಜ್ಜಿತಾ ಭವತೇತಿ ತಾನಾಜ್ಞಾಪಯತ್| ಅನನ್ತರಂ ತೇ ಸ್ವೈಃ ಸಾರ್ದ್ಧಂ ಕತಿಪಯದಿನಾನಿ ಸ್ಥಾತುಂ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಯನ್ತ|
And he directed that they should be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ; after which they asked him to stay there a few days longer.
