1 Timóteo 3
1 Este é um ditado fiel: alguém que procura ser um supervisor deseja um bom trabalho.
True is the saying: If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
2 O superintendente, portanto, deve ser sem censura, o marido de uma esposa, temperante, sensato, modesto, hospitaleiro, bom em ensinar;
A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, sober, discreet, orderly, hospitable, apt in teaching;
3 não um bebedor, não violento, não ganancioso por dinheiro, mas gentil, não briguento, não cobiçoso;
not given to wine, not a striker, but forbearing, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money;
4 alguém que governa bem sua própria casa, tendo filhos em sujeição com toda a reverência;
presiding well over his own house, having his children in subjection with all propriety; —
5 (como poderia alguém que não sabe governar sua própria casa cuidar da assembléia de Deus?)
for if a man knoweth not how to preside over his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God—
6 não um novo convertido, para que não caia na mesma condenação que o diabo.
not a new convert, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the Devil;
7 Além disso, ele deve ter um bom testemunho daqueles que estão de fora, para evitar cair em reprovação e na armadilha do diabo.
moreover he must also have a good report from them that are without, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the Devil.
8 Os serventes, da mesma forma, devem ser reverentes, não de dupla língua, não viciados em muito vinho, não gananciosos por dinheiro,
Deacons in like manner must be grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of base gain,
9 mantendo o mistério da fé em uma consciência pura.
holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
10 Deixe-os também primeiro serem testados; depois, deixe-os servir se forem irrepreensíveis.
And let these also first be proved; then let them serve as deacons, if they are without reproach.
11 Suas esposas da mesma forma devem ser reverentes, não caluniadoras, temperantes e fiéis em todas as coisas.
The women in like manner must be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.
12 Que os servos sejam maridos de uma esposa, governando bem seus filhos e suas próprias casas.
Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
13 Para aqueles que serviram bem, ganham para si uma boa posição e uma grande audácia na fé que está em Cristo Jesus.
For they that have served well as deacons, gain for themselves a good standing, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
14 Estas coisas escrevo para você, esperando vir até você em breve,
These things write I to thee, hoping to come to thee shortly;
15 mas se eu esperar muito, para que você possa saber como os homens devem se comportar na casa de Deus, que é a assembléia do Deus vivo, o pilar e o terreno da verdade.
but if I should tarry long, that thou mayst know how thou oughtest to conduct thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.
16 Sem controvérsia, o mistério da piedade é grande: Deus foi revelado em carne e osso, justificado no espírito, visto por anjos, pregado entre as nações, acreditado no mundo, e recebido em glória.
And confessedly great is the mystery of godliness, in him who was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the gentiles, believed on in the world, received up in glory.
