Provérbios 25
1 Também estes são provérbios de Salomão, os quais transcreveram os homens d'Ezequias, rei de Judá.
These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
2 A glória de Deus é encobrir o negócio; mas a glória dos reis esquadrinhar o negócio.
It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings is to search out a matter.
3 Para a altura dos céus, e para a profundeza da terra, e para o coração dos reis, não há investigação.
The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
4 Tira da prata as escórias, e sairá vaso para o fundidor.
Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
5 Tira o ímpio da presença do rei, e o seu trono se afirmará na justiça.
Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
6 Não te glories na presença do rei, nem te ponhas no lugar dos grandes;
Put not forth yourself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:
7 Porque melhor é que te digam: Sobe aqui; do que seres humilhado diante do príncipe que já viram os teus olhos.
For better it is that it be said to you, Come up here; than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince whom your eyes have seen.
8 Não saias depressa a litigar, para que depois ao fim não saibas que fazer, podendo-te confundir o teu próximo.
Go not forth hastily to strive, lest you know not what to do in the end thereof, when your neighbor has put you to shame.
9 Pleiteia o teu pleito com o teu próximo, e não descubras o segredo de outro:
Debate your cause with your neighbor himself; and discover not a secret to another:
10 Para que não te desonre o que o ouvir, e a tua infâmia se não aparte de ti.
Lest he that hears it put you to shame, and your infamy turn not away.
11 Como maçãs de ouro em salvas de prata, assim é a palavra dita a seu tempo.
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
12 Como pendentes de ouro e gargantilhas de ouro fino, assim é o sábio repreensor para o ouvido ouvinte.
As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover on an obedient ear.
13 Como frieza de neve no tempo da sega, assim é o mensageiro fiel para com os que o enviam; porque recreia a alma de seu senhor.
As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refreshes the soul of his masters.
14 Como nuvens e ventos que não trazem chuva, assim é o homem que se gaba falsamente de dádivas.
Whoever boasts himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.
15 Pela longanimidade se persuade o príncipe, e a língua branda quebranta os ossos.
By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaks the bone.
16 Achaste mel? come o que te basta; para que porventura não te fartes dele, e o venhas a vomitar.
Have you found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for you, lest you be filled therewith, and vomit it.
17 Retira o teu pé da casa do teu próximo; para que se não enfade de ti, e te aborreça.
Withdraw your foot from your neighbor’s house; lest he be weary of you, and so hate you.
18 Martelo, e espada, e flecha aguda é o homem que diz falso testemunho contra o seu próximo.
A man that bears false witness against his neighbor is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
19 Como dente quebrado, e pé desengonçado, é a confiança no desleal, no tempo da angústia.
Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
20 O que canta canções ao coração aflito é como aquele que despe o vestido num dia de frio, e como vinagre sobre salitre.
As he that takes away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar on nitre, so is he that singes songs to an heavy heart.
21 Se o que te aborrece tiver fome, dá-lhe pão para comer; e se tiver sede, dá-lhe água para beber;
If your enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
22 Porque assim brazas lhe amontoarás sobre a cabeça; e o Senhor to pagará.
For you shall heap coals of fire on his head, and the LORD shall reward you.
23 O vento norte afugenta a chuva, e a face irada a língua fingida.
The north wind drives away rain: so does an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
24 Melhor é morar num canto do terraço, do que com a mulher contenciosa, e isso em casa em que mais companhia haja.
It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
25 Como água fria à alma cançada, tais são as boas novas de terra remota.
As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
26 Como fonte turva, e manancial corrupto, assim é o justo que cai diante do ímpio.
A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.
27 Comer muito mel não é bom; assim a pesquiza da própria glória não é glória.
It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.
28 Como a cidade derribada, sem muro, assim é o homem que não pode conter o seu espírito.
He that has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
