Esdras 9
1 Acabadas pois estas coisas, chegaram-se a mim os príncipes, dizendo: O povo de Israel, e os sacerdotes, e os levitas, se não tem separado dos povos destas terras; segundo as suas abominações, a saber: dos cananeus, dos heteus, dos pherezeus, dos jebuseus, dos amonitas, dos moabitas, dos egípcios, e dos amorreus.
And at the completion of these things, drawn nigh unto me have the heads, saying, 'The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not been separated from the peoples of the lands, as to their abominations, even the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite, the Ammonite, the Moabite, the Egyptian, and the Amorite,
2 Porque tomaram das suas filhas para si e para seus filhos, e assim se misturou a semente santa com os povos destas terras: e até a mão dos príncipes e magistrados foi a primeira nesta transgressão.
for they have taken of their daughters to them, and to their sons, and the holy seed have mingled themselves among the peoples of the lands, and the hand of the heads and of the seconds have been first in this trespass.'
3 E, ouvindo eu tal coisa, rasguei o meu vestido e o meu manto, e arranquei os cabelos da minha cabeça e da minha barba, e me assentei atônito.
And at my hearing this word, I have rent my garment and my upper robe, and pluck out of the hair of my head, and of my beard, and sit astonished,
4 Então se ajuntaram a mim todos os que tremiam das palavras do Deus de Israel por causa da transgressão dos do cativeiro: porém eu me fiquei assentado atônito até ao sacrifício da tarde.
and unto me are gathered every one trembling at the words of the God of Israel, because of the trespass of the removal, and I am sitting astonished till the present of the evening.
5 E perto do sacrifício da tarde me levantei da minha aflição, havendo já rasgado o meu vestido e o meu manto, e me pus de joelhos, e estendi as minhas mãos para o Senhor meu Deus;
And at the present of the evening I have risen from mine affliction, and at my rending my garment and my upper robe, then I bow down on my knees, and spread out my hands unto Jehovah my God,
6 E disse: Meu Deus! Estou confuso e envergonhado, de levantar a ti a minha face, meu Deus: porque as nossas iniquidades se multiplicaram sobre a nossa cabeça, e a nossa culpa tem crescido até aos céus.
and say, 'O my God, I have been ashamed, and have blushed to lift up, O my God, my face unto Thee, for our iniquities have increased over the head, and our guilt hath become great unto the heavens.
7 Desde os dias de nossos pais até ao dia de hoje estamos em grande culpa, e por causa das nossas iniquidades somos entregues, nós, os nossos reis, e os nossos sacerdotes, na mão dos reis das terras, à espada, ao cativeiro, e ao roubo, e à confusão do rosto, como hoje se vê
'From the days of our fathers we [are] in great guilt unto this day, and in our iniquities we have been given — we, our kings, our priests — into the hand of the kings of the lands, with sword, with captivity, and with spoiling, and with shame of face, as [at] this day.
8 E agora, como por um pequeno momento, se nos fez graça da parte do Senhor, nosso Deus, para nos deixar aqueles que escapem, e para dar-nos uma estaca no seu santo lugar: para nos alumiar os olhos, ó Deus nosso, e para nos dar uma pouca de vida na nossa servidão;
'And now, as a small moment hath grace been from Jehovah our God, to leave to us an escape, and to give to us a nail in His holy place, by our God's enlightening our eyes, and by giving us a little quickening in our servitude;
9 Porque servos somos; porém na nossa servidão não nos desamparou o nosso Deus; antes estendeu sobre nós beneficência perante os reis da Pérsia, para que nos desse vida, para levantarmos a casa do nosso Deus, e para restaurarmos as suas assolações; e para que nos desse uma parede em Judá e em Jerusalém.
for servants we [are], and in our servitude our God hath not forsaken us, and stretcheth out unto us kindness before the kings of Persia, to give to us a quickening to lift up the house of our God, and to cause its wastes to cease, and to give to us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.
10 Agora pois, ó nosso Deus, que diremos depois disto? pois deixamos os teus mandamentos,
'And now, what do we say, O our God, after this? for we have forsaken Thy commands,
11 Os quais mandaste pelo ministério de teus servos, os profetas, dizendo: A terra em que entrais para a possuir, terra imunda é pelas imundicias dos povos das terras, pelas suas abominações com que a encheram, de uma extremidade à outra, com a sua imundícia.
that Thou hast commanded by the hands of thy servants the prophets, saying, The land into which ye are going to possess it, [is] a land of impurity, by the impurity of the people of the lands, by their abominations with which they have filled it — from mouth unto mouth — by their uncleanness;
12 Agora pois vossas filhas não dareis a seus filhos, e suas filhas não tomareis para vossos filhos, e nunca procurareis a sua paz e o seu bem; para que vos esforceis, e comais o bem da terra, e a façais possuir a vossos filhos para sempre.
and now, your daughters ye do not give to their sons, and their daughters ye do not take to your sons, and ye do not seek their peace, and their good — unto the age, so that ye are strong, and have eaten the good of the land, and given possession to your sons unto the age.
13 E depois de tudo o que nos tem sucedido por causa das nossas más obras, e da nossa grande culpa: porquanto tu, ó nosso Deus, estorvaste que fossemos destruídos, por causa da nossa iniquidade, e ainda nos deste livramento como este;
'And after all that hath come upon us for our evil works, and for our great guilt (for Thou, O our God, hast kept back of the rod from our iniquities, and hast given to us an escape like this),
14 Tornaremos pois agora a violar os teus mandamentos, e a aparentar-nos com os povos destas abominações? não te indignarias tu assim contra nós até de todo nos consumir, até que não ficasse resto nem quem escapasse?
do we turn back to break Thy commands, and to join ourselves in marriage with the people of these abominations? art not Thou angry against us — even to consumption — till there is no remnant and escaped part?
15 Ah! Senhor Deus de Israel, justo és: pois ficamos escapos, como hoje se vê: eis que estamos diante de ti no nosso delito; porque depois disto ninguém há que possa estar na tua presença.
'O Jehovah, God of Israel, righteous [art] Thou, for we have been left an escape, as [it is] this day; lo, we [are] before Thee in our guilt, for there is none to stand before Thee concerning this.'
