João 16
1 Tenho-vos dito estas coisas, para que vos não escandalizeis.
"These things I have spoken to you in order to clear stumbling-blocks out of your path.
2 Expulsar-vos-hão das synagogas; vem mesmo a hora em que qualquer que vos matar cuidará fazer um serviço a Deus.
You will be excluded from the synagogues; nay more, the time is coming when any one who has murdered one of you will suppose he is offering service to God.
3 E estas coisas vos farão, porquanto não conheceram ao Pae nem a mim.
And they will do these things because they have failed to recognize the Father and to discover who I am.
4 Mas tenho-vos dito isto, a fim de que, quando chegar aquella hora, vos lembreis de que já vol-o tinha dito; mas eu não vos disse isto desde o principio, porquanto estava comvosco.
But I have spoken these things to you in order that when the time for their accomplishment comes you may remember them, and may recollect that I told you. I did not, however, tell you all this at first, because I was still with you.
5 E agora vou para aquelle que me enviou: e nenhum de vós me pergunta: Para onde vaes?
But now I an returning to Him who sent me; and not one of you asks me where I am going.
6 Antes, porque-vos tenho dito estas coisas, o vosso coração se encheu de tristeza.
But grief has filled your hearts because I have said all this to you.
7 Porém digo-vos a verdade, que vos convem que eu vá: porque, se eu não fôr, o Consolador não virá para vós; mas, se eu fôr, enviar-vol-o-hei.
"Yet it is the truth that I am telling you--it is to your advantage that I go away. For unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.
8 E, quando elle vier, convencerá o mundo do peccado, e da justiça e do juizo.
And He, when He comes, will convict the world in respect of sin, of righteousness, and of judgement; --
9 Do peccado, porque não crêem em mim;
of sin, because they do not believe in me;
10 Da justiça, porque vou para meu Pae, e não me vereis mais;
of righteousness, because I am going to the Father, and you will no longer see me;
11 E do juizo, porque já o principe d'este mundo está julgado.
of judgement, because the Prince of this world is under sentence.
12 Ainda tenho muitas coisas que vos dizer, mas vós não as podeis supportar agora,
"I have much more to say to you, but you are unable at present to bear the burden of it.
13 Porém, quando vier aquelle Espirito de verdade, elle vos guiará em toda a verdade; porque não fallará de si mesmo, mas fallará tudo o que tiver ouvido, e vos annunciará as coisas que hão de vir
But when He has come--the Spirit of Truth--He will guide you into all the truth. For He will not speak as Himself originating what He says, but all that He hears He will speak, and He will make known the future to you.
14 Elle me glorificará, porque ha de receber do que é meu, e vol-o ha de annunciar.
He will glorify me, because He will take of what is mine and will make it known to you.
15 Tudo quanto o Pae tem é meu; por isso vos disse que ha de receber do que é meu e vol-o ha de annunciar.
Everything that the Father has is mine; that is why I said that the Spirit of Truth takes of what is mine and will make it known to you.
16 Um pouco, e não me vereis; e outra vez um pouco, e ver-me-heis; porquanto vou para o Pae.
"A little while and you see me no more, and again a little while and you shall see me."
17 Então alguns dos seus discipulos disseram uns para os outros: Que é isto que nos diz? Um pouco, e não me vereis; e outra vez um pouco, e ver-me-heis; e; porquanto vou para o Pae?
Some of His disciples therefore said to one another, "What does this mean which He is telling us, 'A little while and you do not see me, and again a little while and you shall see me,' and 'Because I am going to the Father'?"
18 Diziam pois: Que quer dizer isto: Um pouco? não sabemos o que diz.
So they asked one another repeatedly, "What can that 'little while' mean which He speaks of? We do not understand His words."
19 Conheceu pois Jesus que lh'o queriam interrogar, e disse-lhes: Indagaes entre vós ácerca d'isto que disse: Um pouco, e não me vereis, e outra vez um pouco, e ver-me-heis?
Jesus perceived that they wanted to ask Him, and He said, "Is this what you are questioning one another about--my saying, 'A little while and you do not see me, and again a little while and you shall see me'?
20 Na verdade, na verdade vos digo que vós chorareis e vos lamentareis, e o mundo se alegrará, e vós estareis tristes; mas a vossa tristeza se converterá em alegria.
In most solemn truth I tell you that you will weep aloud and lament, but the world will be glad. You will mourn, but your grief will be turned into gladness.
21 A mulher, quando está para dar á luz, sente tristeza, porque é chegada a sua hora; mas depois de ter dado á luz a creança já se não lembra da afflicção, pelo prazer de haver nascido um homem no mundo
A woman, when she is in labour, has sorrow, because her time has come. But when she has given birth to the babe, she no longer remembers the pain, because of her joy at a child being born into the world.
22 Assim tambem vós agora, na verdade, tendes tristeza; mas outra vez vos verei, e o vosso coração se alegrará, e a vossa alegria ninguem vol-a tirará.
So you also now have sorrow; but I shall see you again, and your hearts will be glad, and your gladness no one will take away from you.
23 E n'aquelle dia nada me perguntareis. Na verdade, na verdade vos digo que tudo quanto pedirdes a meu Pae, em meu nome, elle vol-o ha de dar.
You will put no questions to me then. "In most solemn truth I tell you that whatever you ask the Father for in my name He will give you.
24 Até agora nada pedistes em meu nome; pedi, e recebereis, para que o vosso gozo se cumpra.
As yet you have not asked for anything in my name: ask, and you shall receive, that your hearts may be filled with gladness.
25 Disse-vos estas coisas por parabolas: chega, porém, a hora em que vos não fallarei mais por parabolas, mas abertamente vos fallarei ácerca do Pae.
"All this I have spoken to you in veiled language. The time is coming when I shall no longer speak to you in veiled language, but will tell you about the Father in plain words.
26 N'aquelle dia pedireis em meu nome, e não vos digo que eu rogarei por vós ao Pae,
At that time you will make your requests in my name; and I do not promise to ask the Father on your behalf,
27 Pois o mesmo Pae vos ama; porque vós me amastes, e crêstes que sahi de Deus.
for the Father Himself holds you dear, because you have held me dear and have believed that I came from the Father's presence.
28 Sahi do Pae, e vim ao mundo: outra vez deixo o mundo, e vou para o Pae.
I came from the Father and have come into the world. Again I am leaving the world and am going to the Father."
29 Disseram-lhe os seus discipulos: Eis que agora fallas abertamente, e não dizes parabola alguma.
"Ah, now you are using plain language," said His disciples, "and are uttering no figure of speech!
30 Agora conhecemos que sabes todas as coisas, e não has mister de que alguem te interrogue. Por isso crêmos que saiste de Deus.
Now we know that you have all knowledge, and do not need to be pressed with questions. Through this we believe that you came from God."
31 Respondeu-lhes Jesus: Crêdes agora?
"Do you at last believe?" replied Jesus.
32 Eis que chega a hora, e já se approxima, em que vós sereis dispersos cada um para sua parte, e me deixareis só; mas não estou só, porque o Pae está comigo.
"Remember that the time is coming, nay, has already come, for you all to be dispersed each to his own home and to leave me alone. And yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.
33 Tenho-vos dito estas coisas, para que em mim tenhaes paz; no mundo tereis afflicção, mas tende bom animo, eu venci o mundo.
"I have spoken all this to you in order that in me you may have peace. In the world you have affliction. But keep up your courage: I have won the victory over the world."
