< Fakkeenya 25 >
1 Fakkeenyawwan kunneen fakkeenyawwan Solomoon kanneen namoonni Hisqiyaas, mooticha Yihuudaa garagalchanii dha:
These are additional proverbs of Solomon, which were copied by the men of Hezekiah king of Judah:
2 Waa dhoksuun Waaqaaf ulfina isaa ti; waa sakattaʼanii bira gaʼuun immoo ulfina moototaa ti.
It is the glory of God to conceal a matter and the glory of kings to search it out.
3 Akkuma samiiwwan ol dheeratanii laftis gad fagaatu sana, yaadni moototaa qoratamee bira hin gaʼamu.
As the heavens are high and the earth is deep, so the hearts of kings cannot be searched.
4 Meetii irraa xurii baasi; ergasii tumtuun qodaa tolchuu dandaʼa.
Remove the dross from the silver, and a vessel for a silversmith will come forth.
5 Nama hamaa fuula mootii duraa balleessi; ergasii teessoon isaa qajeelummaadhaan ni jabaata.
Remove the wicked from the king’s presence, and his throne will be established in righteousness.
6 Fuula mootii duratti ol of hin qabin; iddoo namoota gurguddaas hin dhaabatin;
Do not exalt yourself in the presence of the king, and do not stand in the place of great men;
7 inni fuula namoota bebeekamoo duratti si salphisuu irra, yoo inni, “As ol kottu” siin jedhe wayyaa. Ati waan ija keetiin argite,
for it is better that he says to you, “Come up here!” than that you should be demoted in the presence of the prince. Even what you have seen with your own eyes,
8 daftee mana murtiitti hin fidin; yoo ollaan kee si qaanesse, dhuma irratti ati maal gochuu dandeessa?
do not bring hastily to court. Otherwise, what will you do in the end when your neighbor puts you to shame?
9 Dhimma kee ollaa kee wajjin falmadhu; iccitii nama kaanii immoo hin baasin;
Argue your case with your neighbor without betraying another’s confidence,
10 yoo kanaa achii namni waan sana dhagaʼee si qaanessa; maqaan hamaan siif kenname sunis sirraa hin baʼu.
lest the one who hears may disgrace you, and your infamy never go away.
11 Dubbiin yeroo isaatti dubbatame, akkuma hudhaa warqee kan meetii irratti hojjetamee ti.
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.
12 Ifanni nama ogeessaa gurra dhaggeeffatuuf, lootii warqee yookaan faaya warqee qulqulluu ti.
Like an earring of gold or an ornament of fine gold is a wise man’s rebuke to a listening ear.
13 Ergamaan amanamaan tokko warra isa ergataniif akkuma qabbana cabbii kan yeroo midhaan haamanii ti; inni hafuura gooftota isaa haaromsaatii.
Like the cold of snow in the time of harvest is a trustworthy messenger to those who send him; he refreshes the soul of his masters.
14 Namni kennaa namaaf hin kennineen boonu tokko akkuma duumessaa fi bubbee bokkaa hin qabnee ti.
Like clouds and wind without rain is the man who boasts of gifts never given.
15 Obsaan bulchaa tokko garaa laafifachuun ni dandaʼama; dubbiin malaan dubbatame lafee ni cabsa.
Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can break a bone.
16 Damma yoo argatte hamma si gaʼu nyaadhu; yoo baayʼiftee nyaatte ni diddigda.
If you find honey, eat just what you need, lest you have too much and vomit it up.
17 Mana ollaa keetii dhaquu hin baayʼisin; yoo ati miilla itti baayʼifte inni si jibba.
Seldom set foot in your neighbor’s house, lest he grow weary and hate you.
18 Namni sobaan ollaa isaatti dhugaa baʼu, akkuma bokkuu yookaan goraadee yookaan xiyya qara qabuu ti.
Like a club or sword or sharp arrow is a man who bears false witness against his neighbor.
19 Nama hin amanamne tokko yeroo rakkootti abdachuun akkuma ilkaan cabee yookaan miilla okkoluu ti.
Like a broken tooth or a foot out of joint is confidence in a faithless man in time of trouble.
20 Nama garaan isaa gaddeef sirba sirbuun akkuma nama guyyaa dhaamochaa wayyaa of irraa baasuu, yookaan madaa irratti dhangaggaaʼaa dhangalaasuu ti.
Like one who removes a garment on a cold day or vinegar poured on a wound is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.
21 Yoo diinni kee beelaʼe waan inni nyaatu kenniif; yoo inni dheebotes bishaan inni dhugu kenniif.
If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.
22 Kana gochuu keetiin barbadaa ibiddaa mataa isaa irra tuulta; Waaqayyos si badhaasa.
For in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you.
23 Akkuma bubbeen kaabaa bokkaa fidu, arrabni hamatus fuula dheekkamu fida.
As the north wind brings forth rain, so a backbiting tongue brings angry looks.
24 Niitii nyakkiftuu wajjin mana tokko keessa jiraachuu mannaa, golee bantii manaa irra jiraachuu wayya.
Better to live on a corner of the roof than to share a house with a quarrelsome wife.
25 Oduun gaariin biyya fagootii dhufu, akkuma bishaan qabbanaaʼaa lubbuu dheebotteef taʼuu ti.
Like cold water to a weary soul is good news from a distant land.
26 Namni qajeelaan fuula hamootaa duratti kufu, akkuma burqaa dhoqqaaʼee yookaan boolla bishaanii faalame tokkoo ti.
Like a muddied spring or a polluted well is a righteous man who gives way to the wicked.
27 Damma baayʼee nyaachuun gaarii miti; ulfina mataa ofii barbaaduunis ulfina miti.
It is not good to eat too much honey or to search out one’s own glory.
28 Namni of hin qabne, akkuma magaalaa dallaan isaa diigamee ti.
Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who does not control his temper.
