< Iyyoob 34 >
After proclaiming these things, Eliu now had this to say:
2 “Yaa ogeeyyii, dubbii koo dhagaʼaa; beektonnis na dhaggeeffadhaa.
May the wise hear my words, and may the educated listen to me.
3 Akkuma arrabni nyaata afaaniin qabu, gurris dubbii calalaatii.
For the ear examines words, and the mouth discerns foods by the taste.
4 Waan qajeelaa taʼe ofii keenyaaf haa filannu; waan gaariis tokkummaadhaan haa barannu.
Let us choose judgment for ourselves, and let us consider among ourselves what is best.
5 “Iyyoob akkana jedha; ‘Ani qajeelaa dha; Waaqni garuu murtii qajeelaa narraa fudhate.
For Job has said: “I am just, yet God has subverted my judgment.
6 Ani utuman nama dhugaa taʼee jiruu, akka sobduuttin herregame; ani yakka qabaachuu baadhu illee xiyyi isaa madaa hin fayyineen na madeesseera.’
For, within my judgment, there is a lie: my vehement barbs are without any sin.”
7 Namni akka bishaaniitti tuffii dhugu, kan akka Iyyoob eenyu?
What man is there that is like Job, who drinks up derision as if it were water,
8 Inni warra hammina hojjetu wajjin walii gala; jalʼoota wajjinis tokkummaa qabaata.
who accompanies those who work iniquity, and who walks with impious men?
9 Inni, ‘Waaqa gammachiisuu yaaluun, namaaf faayidaa tokko iyyuu hin qabu’ jedhaatii.
For he has said, “Man will not please God, even if he should travel with him.”
10 “Kanaafuu isin yaa hubattoota, na dhagaʼaa. Waan hamaa hojjechuun Waaqa irraa, dogoggoruunis Waaqa Waan Hunda Dandaʼu irraa haa fagaatu.
Therefore, prudent men, hear me: impiety is far from God, and iniquity is far from the Almighty.
11 Inni namaaf akkuma hojii isaatti gatii ni kenna; waan karaa isaatiif malus itti fida.
For he will restore to man his works, and according to the ways of each, he will repay them.
12 Dhugumaan Waaqni hammina hin hojjetu; Waaqni Waan Hunda Dandaʼu murtii qajeelaa hin jalʼisu.
For truly, God will not condemn in vain, nor will the Almighty repudiate judgment.
13 Eenyutu lafa irratti isa muude? Eenyutus addunyaa guutuu isatti kenne?
What other is established over the earth? Or whom has he placed over the world, which he made?
14 Utuu inni hafuura isaa deebisee fudhatee, hafuura baafatu illee gara ofii isaatti deebifatee,
But, if he directs his heart towards him, he will draw his spirit and breath to himself.
15 silaa sanyiin namaa hundi walumaan bada; namnis biyyootti deebiʼa ture.
All flesh will fail together, and man will return to ashes.
16 “Ati yoo hubannaa qabaatte waan kana dhagaʼi; waan ani jedhus dhaggeeffadhu.
Therefore, if you have understanding, hear what is said, and heed the sound of my eloquence.
17 Namni murtii qajeelaa jibbu bulchuu dandaʼaa? Atis isa qajeelaa fi humna qabeessa sanatti murtaa?
Is he that does not love judgment able to be corrected? And how can you so greatly condemn him who is just?
18 Kan moototaan, ‘Isin faayidaa hin qabdan;’ jedhee qondaaltotaanis, ‘Isin hamoo dha’ jedhu isa mitii?
He says to the king, “You are an apostate.” He calls commanders impious.
19 Inni ilmaan moototaatiif illee hin looguu; sooreyyii fi hiyyeeyyii wal hin caalchisu; hundi isaanii hojii harka isaatii.
He does not accept the reputation of leaders; nor does he recognize the tyrant as he contends against the poor. For all are the work of his hands.
20 Isaan halkan walakkaa tasa duʼu; namoonni hollatanii dhumu; jajjaboonnis utuma harki namaa isaan hin tuqin ni badu.
They will die suddenly, and the people will be troubled in the middle of the night, but they will pass through it, and the violent will be taken away without a hand.
21 “Iji isaa karaa namootaa irra jira; inni tarkaanfii isaanii hunda ni arga.
For his eyes are upon the ways of men, and he examines all of their steps.
22 Iddoon warri waan hamaa hojjetan itti dhokatan, dukkanni yookaan gaaddisni guddaan hin jiru.
There is no darkness and no shadow of death, where those who work iniquity may be hidden.
23 Akka inni murtiidhaaf fuula isaa duratti dhiʼaatuuf, Waaqni nama kam iyyuu hin beellamu.
For it is no longer within the power of man to enter into judgment with God.
24 Inni gaaffii tokko malee namoota jajjaboo ni burkuteessa; warra biraa immoo iddoo isaanii ni kaaʼa.
He will break into many innumerable pieces, and he will cause others to stand up in their place.
25 Inni sababii hojii isaanii beekuuf, halkan keessa isaan garagalcha; isaanis ni barbadaaʼu.
For he knows their works, and, as a result, he will bring the night, and they will be crushed.
26 Sababii jalʼina isaaniitiifis inni iddoo namni hundi argutti isaan adaba;
Just as the impious do, he has struck them in a place where they can be seen.
27 kunis waan isaan isa duukaa buʼuu irraa garagalanii karaa isaa hunda dhiisaniif.
They, as if with great diligence, have withdrawn from him, and they refused to understand all his ways,
28 Isaan akka inni iyya rakkattootaa dhagaʼuuf, akka iyyi hiyyeeyyii fuula isaa duratti dhagaʼamu godhaniiru.
so that they caused the outcry of the needy to reach him, and he heard the voice of the poor.
29 Yoo inni calʼise garuu, eenyutu isatti muruu dandaʼa? Yoo inni fuula isaa dhokfates eenyutu isa arguu dandaʼa? Taʼus inni namaa fi saba illee ni toʼata;
For, when he grants peace, who is there that can condemn? When he hides his face, who is there that can contemplate him, either among the nations, or among all men?
30 kunis akka namni Waaqaaf hin bulle mootii hin taanee fi akka isaan sabaaf kiyyoo hin keenyeefii dha.
He causes a hypocritical man to reign because of the sins of the people.
31 “Namni tokko Waaqaan akkana jedha haa jennu; ‘Ani yakka hojjedheera; garuu itti hin deebiʼu.
Therefore, since I have been speaking about God, I will not prevent you from doing the same.
32 Waan ani arguu hin dandeenye na barsiisi; ani yoon dogoggora hojjedhee jiraadhe, lammata itti hin deebiʼu.’
If I have erred, you may teach me; if I have spoken unfairly, I will add no more.
33 Waaqni sababii ati qalbii jijjiirrachuu didduuf akkuma yaada keetiitti gatii siif baasaa? Situ murteessuu qaba malee ana miti; kanaafuu ati waan beektu natti himi.
Does God require this of you because it is displeasing to you? For you were the first to speak, and not I. But if you know something better, speak.
34 “Namoonni hubannaa qaban ni dubbatu; namoonni ogeeyyiin na dhagaʼanis akkana jedhu;
Let men of understanding speak to me, and let a wise man listen to me.
35 ‘Iyyoob beekumsa malee dubbata; dubbiin isaas hubannaa cimaa hin qabu.’
But Job has been speaking foolishly, and his words contain unsound teaching.
36 Iyyoob sababii akka nama hamaatti deebii kenneef maaloo utuu hamma dhumaatti qoramee jiraatee!
My father, let Job be tested even to the end; may you not retreat from a man of iniquity.
37 Inni cubbuu isaa irratti fincila dabala; tuffiidhaan gidduu keenyatti harka dhaʼa; Waaqa irrattis waan baayʼee dubbata.”
For he adds blasphemy on top of his sins; nevertheless, let him be constrained to be among us, and then let him provoke God to judgment with his speeches.
