1 Nama dulloome tokko akka waan inni abbaa kee taʼeetti gorsi malee hin ifatin. Dargaggootas akka obbolootaatti ilaali;
Do not reprimand an older man, but plead with him as if he were your father. Treat the young men as brothers,
2 dubartoota dullooman akka haadhotiitti, dubartoota shamarran akka obboleettotaatti qulqullummaa guutuun ilaali.
the older women as mothers, and the younger women as sisters – with all purity.
3 Haadhota hiyyeessaa kanneen dhugumaan rakkattoota taʼan kabaji.
Show consideration for widows – I mean those who are really widowed.
4 Garuu haati hiyyeessaa tokko yoo ijoollee yookaan akkoowwan qabaatte ijoolleen kunneen maatii isaanii gargaaruu fi warra isaaniitiif gatii deebisuudhaan amantii isaanii hojiin mulʼisuuf duraan dursanii barachuu qabu; kun Waaqa gammachiisaatii.
But, if a widow has children or grandchildren, they should learn to show proper regard for the members of their own family first, and to make some return to their parents; for that is pleasing in God’s sight.
5 Haati hiyyeessaa kan dhugumaan rakkattuu taatee kophaa ishee hafte abdii ishee Waaqa irra kaaʼattee halkanii guyyaa kadhannaa fi gargaarsa Waaqaa gaafachuu itti fufti.
As for the woman who is really widowed and left quite alone, her hopes are fixed on God, and she devotes herself to prayers and supplications night and day.
6 Haati hiyyeessaa kan jireenya gammachuutti of gattu garuu utuma jirtuu iyyuu duuteerti.
But the life of a widow who is devoted to pleasure is a living death.
7 Akka namni tokko iyyuu mudaa hin qabaanneef ajaja kana kenni.
Those are the points you should teach, so that there may be no call for your censure.
8 Namni firoota isaa keessumattuu miseensota maatii isaa warra isatti aannan hin gargaarre kam iyyuu amantii ganeera; inni nama hin amanne caalaattis hamaa dha.
Anyone who fails to provide for their own relatives, and especially for those under their own roof, has disowned the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever.
9 Haati hiyyeessaa tokko yoo umuriin ishee waggaa jaatamaa ol taʼee akkasumas niitii dhirsa tokkichaa turte taate malee maqaan ishee galmee haadhota hiyyeessaa irratti hin galmeeffamin;
A widow, when her name is added to the list, should not be less than sixty years old; she should have been a faithful wife,
10 akkasumas isheen hojii gaarii hojjechuudhaan jechuunis ijoollee guddisuudhaan, keessummaa simachuudhaan, miilla qulqullootaa dhiquudhaan, warra rakkatan gargaaruudhaan, karaa hundumaanis hojii gaarii hojjechuu keessatti of kennuudhaan kan beekamte taʼuu qabdi.
and be well spoken of for her kind actions. She should have brought up children, have shown hospitality to strangers, have washed the feet of her fellow Christians, have relieved those who were in distress, and devoted herself to every kind of good action.
11 Haadhota hiyyeessaa kanneen shamarran taʼan garuu hin galmeessin. Isaan yommuu hawwiin foonii Kiristoos irraa gargar isaan baasutti deebiʼanii heerumuu barbaaduutii.
But you should exclude the younger widows from the list; for, when they grow restive under the yoke of the Christ, they want to marry,
12 Kanaanis isaan waan kakuu isaanii kan jalqabaa cabsaniif murtii ofitti fidu.
and so they bring condemnation on themselves for having broken their previous promise.
13 Kana malees manaa gara manaatti labanii dhibaaʼummaa baratu. Dhibaaʼummaa qofa utuu hin taʼin waan dubbachuun isaaniif hin malle dubbachuudhaan nama hamatu; dhimma namaa keessas galu.
And not only that, but they learn to be idle as they go about from house to house. Nor are they merely idle, but they also become gossips and busybodies, and talk of what they ought not.
14 Kanaafuu haadhonni hiyyeessaa kanneen ijoollummaa qaban akka carraa maqaa nu balleessuu diinaaf hin kennineef ani akka isaan heeruman, akka ijoollee daʼanii fi akka mana isaanii bulfatan nan gorsa.
Therefore I advise young widows to marry, bear children, and attend to their homes, and so avoid giving the enemy an opportunity for scandal.
15 Namoonni tokko tokko Seexana duukaa buʼuuf jedhanii duraanuu karaa irraa goraniiru.
There are some who have already left us, to follow Satan.
16 Dubartiin amantu kam iyyuu yoo haadhota hiyyeessaa maatii ishee keessaa qabaatte, akka waldaan kiristaanaa haadhota hiyyeessaa kanneen dhugumaan rakkattoota taʼan gargaartuuf isheen isaan haa gargaartuu malee akka waldaa kiristaanaatti baʼaa taʼan hin godhin.
Any Christian woman, who has relatives who are widows, ought to relieve them and not allow them to become a burden to the church, so that the church may relieve those widows who are really widowed.
17 Jaarsoliin sirriitti waldaa kiristaanaa bulchan keessumattuu warri hojiin isaanii lallabuu fi barsiisuu taʼe ulfina dachaa argachuu qabu.
Those church elders who fill their office well should be held deserving of especial consideration, particularly those whose work lies in preaching and teaching.
18 Katabbiin Qulqulluun, “Qotiyyoo midhaan siribsiisuutti jiru afaan hin hidhin;” akkasumas, “Hojjetaaf mindaa isaa argachuun ni mala” jedhaatii.
The words of scripture are – “You should not muzzle the ox while it is treading out the grain.” and again – “The worker is worth their wages.”
19 Yoo dhuga baatota lamaan yookaan sadiin mirkaneeffame malee himata jaarsa tokko mormuun dhiʼeeffamu kam iyyuu hin fudhatin.
Do not entertain a charge against an church elder, unless it is supported by two or three witnesses;
20 Akka warri kaan sodaataniif namoota cubbuu hojjetan fuula namoota hundaa duratti itti dheekkami.
but rebuke offenders publicly, so that others may take warning.
21 Ani akka ati waan tokko iyyuu loogiidhaan hin goonee fi akka wal caalchisuu malee ajajawwan kanneen eegduuf fuula Waaqaatii fi fuula Kiristoos Yesuus duratti, fuula ergamoota filatamanii durattis sin gorsa.
I charge you solemnly, before God and Christ Jesus and the chosen angels, to carry out these directions, unswayed by prejudice, never acting with partiality.
22 Eenyu irra iyyuu harka kaaʼuuf hin ariifatin; cubbuu nama biraa keessatti hin hirmaatin. Qulqullummaadhaanis of eeggadhu.
Never ordain anyone hastily, and take no part in the wrongdoing of others. Keep your life pure.
23 Sababii garaa keetiitii fi dhukkuba ammumaa amma sitti kaʼu sanaatiif daadhii wayinii xinnoo ishee dhugi malee bishaan qofa hin dhugin.
Do not continue to drink water only, but take a little wine because of the weakness of your stomach, and your frequent ailments.
24 Cubbuun namoota tokko tokkoo duraan dursee ifatti mulʼata; isaan dura darbees lafa murtii gaʼa; cubbuun warra kaanii garuu duuba irratti beekama.
There are some people whose sins are conspicuous and lead on to judgment, while there are others whose sins dog their steps.
25 Hojiin gaariinis akkasuma ifatti mulʼata; kan ifatti hin mulʼannes dhokfamee hafuu hin dandaʼu.
In the same way noble deeds become conspicuous, and those which are otherwise cannot be concealed.
