१ शमूएल 1

1 एफ्राइमको पहाडी देशको सूपीहरूका रामतैमबाट आएका एक जना मानिस थिए । तिनी एफ्राइमी सूपका जनाति तोहूको पनाति एलीहूको नाति यरोहामका छोरा एल्काना थिए ।

And there is a certain man of Ramathaim-Zophim, of the hill-country of Ephraim, and his name [is] Elkanah, son of Jeroham, son of Elihu, son of Tohu, son of Zuph, an Ephraimite,

2 तिनका दुई वटी पत्‍नीहरू थिए । पहिलोको नाउँ हन्‍नाह र दोस्रोको नाउँ पनिन्‍नाह थियो । पनिन्‍नाहका छोराछोरी थिए तर हन्‍नाहका थिएन ।

and he has two wives, the name of the first [is] Hannah, and the name of the second Peninnah, and Peninnah has children, and Hannah has no children.

3 यिनी आफ्‍नो सहरबाट सर्वशक्तिमान् परमप्रभुको निम्ति बलिदान चढाउन र आरधना गर्न हरेक वर्ष शीलोमा जन्थे । त्‍यहाँ एलीका दुई जना छोराहरू होप्‍नी र पीनहास परमप्रभुका पुजारीहरू थिए ।

And that man has gone up out of his city from time to time, to bow himself, and to sacrifice, before YHWH of Hosts, in Shiloh, and there [are] two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests of YHWH.

4 जब एल्‍कानाले हरेक वर्षझैं बलिदान गर्ने समय आयो, तिनले सदैव तिनकी पत्‍नी पनिन्‍नाह र तिनका सबै छोरा र छोरीलाई मासुको भागहरू दिन्थे ।

And the day comes, and Elkanah sacrifices, and he has given portions to his wife Peninnah, and to all her sons and her daughters,

5 तर तिनले हन्‍नाहलाई सदैव दोब्‍बर भाग दिन्थे, किनभने तिनले उनलाई माया गर्थे, यद्यपि परमप्रभुले उनको गर्भ बन्‍द गर्नुभएको थियो ।

and he gives a certain portion to Hannah—double, for he has loved Hannah, and YHWH has shut her womb;

6 उनको सौताले उनलाई रिस उठाउनलाई उनलाई साह्रै चिढ्याउँथिन्, किनभने परमप्रभुले उनको गर्भ बन्‍द गर्नुभएको थियो ।

and her rival has also provoked her greatly, so as to make her tremble, for YHWH has shut up her womb.

7 त्यसैले वर्षै पिच्छे, उनी आफ्नो परिवारसँग परमप्रभुको भवनमा जाँदा उनको सौताले तिनलाई सदैव चिढ्याउँथिन् । यसकारण, उनी रुन्‍थिन् र केही पनि खाँदैनथिन् ।

And so is done year by year, from the time of her going up into the house of YHWH, so she provokes her, and she weeps, and does not eat.

8 उनका पति एल्कानाले सदैव उनलाई भन्थे,”ए हन्‍नाह, तिमी किन रुन्छ्यौ? तिमी किन खाँदिनौ? तिम्रो हृदय किन यति धेरै निराश हुन्छ? के म तिम्रो निम्‍ति दस जना छोराभन्दा उत्तम छैन र?”

And her husband Elkanah says to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? And why do you not eat? And why is your heart afflicted? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”

9 यि अवसरमध्ये एकपल्‍ट तिनीहरूले शीलोमा खाने र पिउने काम सकेपछि हन्‍नाह उठिन् । यति बेला पुजारी एली परमप्रभुको मन्दिरको ढोकामा आफ्‍नो आसनमा बसिरहेका थिए ।

And Hannah rises after eating in Shiloh, and after drinking, and Eli the priest is sitting on the throne by the doorpost of the temple of YHWH.

10 उनी अति नै व्याकुल भएकी थिइन् । उनले परमप्रभुसँग प्रार्थना गरिन् र धुरुधुरु रोइन् ।

And she is bitter in soul, and prays to YHWH, and weeps greatly,

11 उनले भाकल गरिन् र भनिन्, “हे सर्वशक्तिमान् परमप्रभु, तपाईंले आफ्नी दासीको वेदनालाई हेर्नुहुन्‍छ, मलाई याद गर्नुहुन्‍छ र आफ्‍नो दासीलाई बिर्सनुहुन्‍न, तर तपाईंको दासीलाई एउटा छोरा दिनुहुन्छ भने, उसको सम्पूर्ण जीवनभरि म उसलाई परमप्रभुको निम्ति दिनेछु र उसको शिरमा कुनै छुराले कदापि छुनेछैन ।”

and vows a vow, and says, “YHWH of Hosts, if You certainly look on the affliction of Your handmaid, and have remembered me, and do not forget Your handmaid, and have given to Your handmaid seed of men—then I have given him to YHWH all [the] days of his life, and a razor does not go up on his head.”

12 उनले परमप्रभुको सामु प्रार्थना गरिरहँदा एलीले तिनको मुखलाई हेरे ।

And it has been, when she multiplied praying before YHWH, that Eli is watching her mouth,

13 हन्‍नाह आफ्‍नो हृदयमा बोलिन् । उनका ओठहरू चले, तर उनको सोर सुनिएन । यसकारण, उनी मद्यले मातेकी थिइन् भनी एलीले विचार गरे ।

and Hannah, she is speaking over her heart—only her lips are moving, and her voice is not heard, and Eli reckons her to be drunken.

14 एलीले उनलाई भने, “तिमी कहिलेसम्‍म मद्यले मातिरहन्‍छ्‍यौ? आफ्‍नो मद्यको आदत छोडिदेऊ।”

And Eli says to her, “Until when are you drunken? Turn aside your wine from you.”

15 हन्‍नाहले जवाफ दिईन्, “होइन, मेरा मालिक, म दुःखी आत्‍मा भएको स्‍त्री हुँ । मैले न दाखमद्य न त कडा मद्य नै पिएकी छु, तर मैले परमप्रभुको सामु मेरो मनको दुःख खन्याइरहेकी छु ।

And Hannah answers and says, “No, my lord, I [am] a woman sharply pained in spirit, and I have not drunk wine and strong drink, and I pour out my soul before YHWH;

16 हजूकी दासीलाई एउटी निर्लज्‍ज स्‍त्री भएकी विचार नगर्नुहोस् । ठुलो चिन्ता र धेरै अपमानले गर्दा म बोलिरहेकी छु ।”

do not put your handmaid before a daughter of worthlessness, for from the abundance of my meditation, and of my provocation, I have spoken until now.”

17 तब एलीले जवाफ दिए र भने, “शान्तिसँग जाऊ । इस्राएलका परमेश्‍वरसँग तिमीले गरेकी बिन्तीको जावफ उहाँले तिमीलाई देऊन् ।”

And Eli answers and says, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel gives your petition which you have asked of Him.”

18 उनले भनिन्, “तपाईंकी दासीलाई तपाईंको नजरमा कृपा मिलोस् ।” अनि ती स्‍त्री गईन् र खाइन् । उनको अनुहार फेरि कहिल्यै निराश भएन ।

And she says, “Let your handmaid find grace in your eyes”; and the woman goes on her way, and eats, and her face has not been [downcast] for herself anymore.

19 तिनीहरू बिहान सबेरै उठे र परमप्रभुको आराधना गरे, अनि तिनीहरू फेरि रामामा भएको आफ्नो घरमा फर्के । आफ्नो पत्‍नी हन्‍नाहसँग एल्कनाले सहवास गरे र परमप्रभुले उनलाई याद गर्नुभयो ।

And they rise early in the morning, and bow themselves before YHWH, and turn back, and come to their house in Ramah, and Elkanah knows his wife Hannah, and YHWH remembers her;

20 जब समय आयो, तब हन्‍नाहले गर्भ धारण गरिन् र एउटा छोरा जन्माइन् । उनले उसको नाउँ शमूएल राखिन्, किनकि उनले भनिन्, “किनभने मैले यसलाई परमप्रभुसँग मागेकी हुँ।”

and it comes to pass, at the revolution of the days, that Hannah conceives, and bears a son, and calls his name Samuel, for, “I have asked for him from YHWH.”

21 फेरि एकपल्‍ट, एल्काना र तिनका सबै घराना वर्षै पिच्‍छेको बलिदान परमप्रभुलाई चढाउन र आफ्‍नो भाकल पुरा गर्न गए ।

And the man Elkanah goes up, and all his house, to sacrifice to YHWH the sacrifice of the days, and his vow.

22 तर हन्‍नाह गइनन् । उनले आफ्‍नो पतिलाई यसो भनेकी थिइन्, “बालकले दूध नछोडेसम्म म जानेछैनँ । त्यसपछि म उसलाई लानेछु, ताकि ऊ परमप्रभुको सामु देखा परोस् र सदासर्वदा त्यहीं बसोस् ।”

And Hannah has not gone up, for she said to her husband, “Until the youth is weaned—then I have brought him in, and he has appeared before the face of YHWH, and dwelt there for all time.”

23 उनका पति एल्कानाले उनलाई भने, “तिमीलाई जे असल लाग्छ सो गर । उसले दूध नछोडेसम्म पर्ख । परमप्रभुले आफ्‍नो वचन मात्र पुरा गर्नुभएको होस् ।” यसैले ती स्‍त्री बसिन् र उनको छोराले दूध नछोडेसम्म उसलाई दूध खुवाइन् ।

And her husband Elkanah says to her, “Do that which is good in your eyes; abide until your weaning him; only, let YHWH establish His word”; and the woman abides and suckles her son until she has weaned him,

24 जब उनले उसलाई दूध छोडाइन्, तब उनले तिन वर्षे साँढे, पाँच पाथी पिठो, एक मशक दाखमद्यको साथमा उसलाई आफूसँगै लिएर गइन्, अनि उसलाई शीलो भएकोमा परमप्रभुको भवनमा ल्याइन् । यति बेला त्‍यो बालक सानै थियो ।

and she causes him to go up with her when she has weaned him, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and she brings him into the house of YHWH at Shiloh, and the youth [is but] a youth.

25 तिनीहरूले साँढेलाई मारे र बलकलाई एलीकहाँ ल्याए ।

And they slaughter the bullock, and bring in the youth to Eli,

26 उनले भनिन्, “हे मेरो मालिक, मेरो मालिक जीवित हुनुभएझैं, यहाँ तपाईंको छेउमा खडा भएर प्रार्थना गर्ने स्‍त्री म नै हुँ ।

and she says, “O my lord, your soul lives! My lord, I [am] the woman who stood with you in this [place], to pray to YHWH;

27 यही बलकको निम्ति मैले प्रार्थना गरें र मैले परमप्रभुमा गरेको बन्ती सुनेर उहाँले मलाई जवाफ दिनुभयो ।

I prayed for this youth, and YHWH gives to me my petition which I asked of Him;

28 मैले उसलाई परमप्रभुमा अर्पण गरेको छु, ऊ जीवित रहेसम्‍म उसलाई परमप्रभुमा दिइएको छ ।” तब तिनीहरूले त्‍यहाँ परमप्रभुको आराधना गरे ।

and I also have called him to YHWH, all the days that he has lived—he is called to YHWH”; and he bows himself there before YHWH.
