< Ohabolana 23 >
1 Raha mipetraka hiara-komana amin’ ny mpanapaka ianao, Dia hevero tsara izay eo anatrehanao,
When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:
2 Ka andraso antsy ny tendanao, Raha dia liana loatra ianao.
For thou puttest a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man of a craving desire.
3 Aza mitsiriritra ny hanim-piny, Fa hani-mamitaka izany.
Do not long for his savory meats; they are deceitful food.
4 Aza manasa-tena hanan-karena, Aza entina amin’ izany ny fahendrenao.
Fatigue thyself not to become rich; because thou hast understanding, forbear.
5 Moa hampanarahinao azy va ny masonao, nefa tsy ao intsony izy? Fa maniry elatra tokoa izy Ka manidina toy ny voromahery ho eny amin’ ny lanitra.
When thou lettest merely thy eyes fly over it, it is no more: for it will ever make itself wings: like an eagle will it fly toward heaven.
6 Aza homana ny mofon’ izay ratsy fijery, Ary aza mitsiriritra ny hanim-piny;
Eat not the bread of a man with an evil eye, and do not long for his savory meats;
7 Fa tahaka ny heviny ao am-pony ihany no toetrany: Hoy izy aminao: Mihinàna, misotroa; Kanjo tsy sitrany ianao.
For as though there were a division in his soul, so doth he act: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
8 Izay sombiny kely voatelinao aza dia mbola haloanao, Ka ho very foana ny teny mahafinaritra nataonao.
Thy morsel which thou hast eaten must thou spit out, and thou hast wasted thy pleasant words.
9 Aza miteny amin’ny adala; Fa hohamavoiny foana ny fahendren’ ny teninao.
Speak not before the ears of a fool; for he will despise the intelligence of thy words.
10 Aza manakisaka ny fari-tany ela, Ary aza manitatra mankamin’ ny sahan’ ny kamboty;
Remove not the ancient landmark, and into the fields of the fatherless must thou not enter;
11 Fa mahery ny Mpanavotra azy, Izy no hisolo vava azy amin’ ny adiny aminao.
For their redeemer is strong; he will indeed plead their cause with thee.
12 Ampiekeo famaizana ny fonao, Sy tenim-pahalalana ny sofinao.
Apply thy heart unto instruction, and thy ears to the sayings of knowledge.
13 Aza tsy manafay zanaka, Fa tsy dia ho faty izy tsy akory na dia asianao ny hazo aza;
Withhold not from a lad correction; for if thou beat him with the rod, he will not die.
14 Raha mamely azy amin’ ny hazo ianao, Dia ho voavonjinao tsy ho any amin’ ny fiainan-tsi-hita ny fanahiny. (Sheol )
Thou wilt indeed beat him with the rod; but thou wilt deliver his soul from perdition. (Sheol )
15 Anaka, raha hendry ny fonao, Dia ho faly koa ny foko, dia ny foko;
My son, If thy heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.
16 Eny, ho ravoravo ny fanahiko, Raha miteny marina ny molotrao.
And my reins shall exult when thy lips speak what is equitable.
17 Aoka tsy hialona ny mpanota ny fonao; Fa matahora an’ i Jehovah mandritra ny andro;
Let not thy heart be envious against sinners; but [remain] in the fear of the lord all the time.
18 Fa raha mbola hisy koa ny farany, Dia tsy ho foana ny fanantenanao.
For surely there is a future, and thy hope will not be cut off.
19 Mihainoa ianao, anaka, ka hendre, Ary ampizory amin’ ny lalana ny fonao.
Hear thou, my son, and become wise, and guide thy heart on the right way.
20 Aza misakaiza amin’ izay mpiboboka divay Sy izay fatra-pitia hena;
Be not among those that drink wine immoderately, among those that over-indulge in eating flesh:
21 Fa halahelo izay mpiboboka sy izay fatra-pitia hena; Ary ny fitiavan-torimaso mampitafy voro-damba.
For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty; and drowsiness clotheth a man in rags.
22 Maneke ny rainao izay niteraka anao. Ary aza manamavo ny reninao, saingy efa antitra izy.
Hearken unto thy father that hath begotten thee, and despise not thy mother although she be old.
23 Vidio ny marina, ka aza amidy, Dia ny fahendrena sy ny fananarana ary ny fahazavan-tsaina.
Buy the truth and sell it not; [also] wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
24 Hifaly dia hifaly ny rain’ ny marina, Ary izay miteraka zaza hendry hanampifaliana aminy.
The father of the righteous will be greatly glad, and he that begetteth a wise child will have joy through him.
25 Aoka ho faly ny rainao sy ny reninao, Eny, aoka ho ravoravo ny reninao izay niteraka anao.
Let [then] thy father and thy mother rejoice, and let her that hath born thee be glad.
26 Anaka, atolory ahy ny fonao, Ary aoka ny masonao ho faly mijery ny lalako;
Give, my son, thy heart unto me, and let thy eyes watch my ways.
27 Fa ny vehivavy jejo dia hady lalina, Ary ny vahiny janga lavaka etỳ;
For a harlot is a deep ditch, and a strange woman is a narrow well.
28 Eny, manotrika toy ny jiolahy ireny Ary mahamaro ny olona mpivadika.
She also lieth in wait like a robber, and she increaseth the treacherous among men.
29 An’ iza ny Indrisy? An’ iza ny Endrey? An’ iza ny fifandirana? An’ iza ny fitolokoana? An’ iza ny ratra tsy ahoan-tsy ahoana? An’ iza ny maso mivoara-mena?
Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath quarrels? who hath complaints? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
30 An’ izay mikikitra amin’ ny divay, Eny, an’ izay mandeha hanandrana divay voaharoharo zavatra.
They that tarry late over the wine: they that come to seek for mixed drink.
31 Aza mijery ny divay noho ny hamenany Sy ny fanganohanony eo anaty gilasy Ary ny fikoriany mahafinaritra;
Do not look on the wine when it looketh red, when it giveth its color in the cup, when it glideth down so readily.
32 Fa amin’ ny farany dia hanaikitra toy ny bibilava izy Ary hanindrona toy ny menarana.
At the last it will bite like a serpent, and like a basilisk will it sting.
33 Koa ny masonao dia hijery vehivavy jejo, Ary ny fonao hieritreri-dratsy.
Thy eyes will see strange forms, and thy heart will speak perverse things.
34 Eny, ho sahala amin’ izay mandry ao amin’ ny ranomasina ianao Sady ho tahaka izay mandry eo an-tendron’ ny andrin-tsambo.
And thou wilt be like one that lieth down in the heart of the sea, or as he that lieth on the top of a mast.
35 Nokapohiny aho, hoy ianao, fa tsy reko naharary ahy, Nandalasiny aho, fa tsy tsaroako; Rahoviana ange aho no hifoha mba hitadiavako azy indray?
“They smote me, [but] I suffered no pain; they struck me hard, [but] I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will continue to seek it again.”
