< Nomery 20 >
1 Ary tamin’ ny volana voalohany tonga tao an-efitra Zina ny Zanak’ Isiraely, dia ny fiangonana rehetra; ary nitoetra tao Kadesy ny olona. Ary maty tao Miriama ka nalevina tao.
So the people of Israel, the whole community, went into the wilderness of Zin in the first month; they stayed at Kadesh. There Miriam died and was buried.
2 Ary tsy nisy rano ho an’ ny fiangonana, ka dia niangona izy hiodina amin’ i Mosesy sy Arona.
There was no water for the community, so they assembled together against Moses and Aaron.
3 Dia nila ady tamin’ i Mosesy ny olona ka niteny hoe: Inay anie izahay mba maty tamin’ ny nahafatesan’ ny rahalahinay teo anatrehan’ i Jehovah!
The people complained against Moses. They said, “It would have been better if we had died when our fellow Israelites died in front of Yahweh!
4 Fa nahoana no nitondra ny fiangonan’ i Jehovah ho amin’ ity efitra ity ianareo, mba hahafaty anay sy ny ombinay eto?
Why have you brought Yahweh's community into this wilderness to die here, we and our animals?
5 Ary nahoana no nitondra anay niakatra avy tany Egypta ianareo, hampiditra anay ho amin’ ity tany ratsy ity, izay tsy misy voan-javatra, na aviavy, na voaloboka, na ampongabendanitra akory, sady tsy misy rano hosotroina?
Why did you make us come up out of Egypt to bring us to this horrible place? Here there is no seed, figs, vines, or pomegranates, and there is no water to drink.”
6 Dia niala teo anatrehan’ ny fiangonana Mosesy sy Arona ho eo anoloan’ ny varavaran’ ny trano-lay fihaonana ka niankohoka; dia niseho taminy ny voninahitr’ i Jehovah.
So Moses and Aaron went away from in front of the assembly. They went to the entrance of the tent of meeting and lay facedown. There Yahweh's brilliant glory appeared to them.
7 Ary Jehovah niteny tamin’ i Mosesy ka nanao hoe:
Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
8 Alao ny tehina, ka vorionao sy Arona rahalahinao ny fiangonana, ary mitenena amin’ ny vatolampy eo imasony, dia hampiboiboika ny ranony izy; ary hampivoaka rano ho an’ ny olona avy amin’ ny vatolampy ianao, ka dia hampisotroinao ny fiangonana sy ny biby fiompiny.
“Take the staff and assemble the community, you, and Aaron your brother. Speak to the rock before their eyes, and command it to flow with water. You will produce water for them out of that rock, and you must give it to the community and their cattle to drink.”
9 Dia nalain’ i Mosesy ny tehina avy teo anatrehan’ i Jehovah, araka izay nandidiany azy.
Moses took the staff from before Yahweh, as Yahweh had commanded him to do.
10 Dia novorin’ i Mosesy sy Arona teo anoloan’ ny vatolampy ny fiangonana; ka dia hoy izy: Mihainoa, ry mpiodina: Moa amin’ ity vatolampy ity va no hampivoahanay rano ho anareo?
Then Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock. Moses said to them, “Listen now, you rebels. Must we bring water out of this rock for you?”
11 Ary Mosesy dia nanainga ny tànany ka nikapoka ny vatolampy indroa tamin’ ny tehiny; dia niboiboika be dia be ny rano, ka nisotro avokoa ny fiangonana sy ny biby fiompiny.
Then Moses raised his hand and struck the rock twice with his staff, and much water came out. The community drank, and their cattle drank.
12 Ary Jehovah niteny tamin’ i Mosesy sy Arona hoe: Satria tsy nino Ahy ianareo hanamasina Ahy eo imason’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely, dia tsy hitondra izao fiangonana izao ho any amin’ ny tany izay nomeko azy ianareo.
Then Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust me or honor me as holy in the eyes of the people of Israel, you will not bring this assembly into the land I have given them.”
13 Ity no ranon’ i Meriba, izay nilan’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely ady tamin’ i Jehovah, ka nisehoan’ i Jehovah ho masìna tamin’ ny nataony taminy.
This place was called the waters of Meribah because the people of Israel had quarreled with Yahweh there, and he showed himself to them as holy.
14 Ary Mosesy dia naniraka olona avy tao Kadesy hankany amin’ ny mpanjakan’ i Edoma hanao hoe: Izao no lazain’ i Isiraely rahalahinao: Hianao mahalala ny fahoriana rehetra izay nanjo anay:
Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom: Your brother Israel says this: “You know all the difficulties that have happened to us.
15 dia ny nidinan’ ny razanay tany Egypta, sy ny nitoeranay ela tany; ary nampahory anay sy ny razanay ny Egyptiana;
You know that our ancestors went down to Egypt and lived in Egypt a long time. The Egyptians treated us harshly and also our ancestors.
16 ary raha nitaraina tamin’ i Jehovah izahay, dia nihaino ny feonay Izy ka naniraka Anjely sy nitondra anay nivoaka avy tany Egypta; ary, indreto, tonga eto Kadesy, tanàna eto amin’ ny faritry ny taninao, izahay;
When we called out to Yahweh, he heard our voice and sent an angel and brought us out of Egypt. Look, we are in Kadesh, a city on the border of your land.
17 koa aoka mba handeha hamaky ny taninao izahay; fa tsy handeha hamaky ny saha sy ny tanim-boaloboka, na hisotro ny rano amin’ ny lavaka fantsakana akory: ny lalan’ andriana ihany no halehanay, fa tsy hania izahay na ho amin’ ny ankavanana na ho amin’ ny ankavia mandra-pahafakay ny faritry ny taninao.
I am asking you to let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or vineyard, nor will we drink the water in your wells. We will go along the king's highway. We will not turn aside to the right hand or to the left until we have passed your border.”
18 Fa hoy ny Edomita taminy: Tsy mahazo mandeha mamaky ny taniko ianao, fandrao hivoaka hamely anao amin’ ny sabatra aho.
But the king of Edom replied to him, “You may not pass through here. If you do, I will come with the sword to attack you.”
19 Dia hoy ny Zanak’ Isiraely taminy: Ny lalam-be ihany no halehanay, fa raha hisotro ny ranonao izaho sy ny omby aman’ ondriko, dia hefaiko vola izany; fa tsy hanao na inona na inona aho, fa handalo fotsiny ihany.
Then the people of Israel said to him, “We will go along the highway. If we or our livestock drink your water, we will pay for it. Just let us walk through on foot, without doing anything else.”
20 Fa hoy izy: Tsy mahazo mandalo atỳ ianao. Ary nivoaka hisakana azy ny Edomita nitondra vahoaka betsaka sady nanao tàna-mahery.
But the king of Edom replied, “You may not pass through.” So the king of Edom came against Israel with a strong hand with many soldiers.
21 Toy izany no nandavan’ ny Edomita ka tsy namela ny Isiraely hamaky ny taniny, ka dia nivily niala taminy ny Zanak’ Isiraely.
The king of Edom refused to allow Israel to cross over their border. Because of this, Israel turned away from the land of Edom.
22 Ary nifindra ny Zanak’ Isiraely, dia ny fiangonana rehetra, ka niala tany Kadesy ary tonga tao an-tendrombohitra Hora.
So the people journeyed from Kadesh. The people of Israel, the whole community, came to Mount Hor.
23 Ary Jehovah niteny tamin’ i Mosesy sy Arona tao an-tendrombohitra Hora, tao amin’ ny fari-tanin’ i Edoma, ka nanao hoe:
Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron at Mount Hor, on Edom's border. He said,
24 Arona hangonina any amin’ ny razany; fa tsy hiditra any amin’ ny tany izay nomeko ny Zanak’ Isiraely izy, satria nandà ny teniko teo amin’ ny ranon’ i Meriba ianareo.
“Aaron must be gathered to his people, for he will not enter the land that I have given to the people of Israel. This is because you both rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah.
25 Alao Arona sy Eleazara zanany, ka ento miakatra ao an-tendrombohitra Hora izy mianaka;
Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor.
26 dia esory ny fitafian’ i Arona, ka atafio an’ i Eleazara zanany; ary Arona hangonina any amin’ ny razany ka ho faty ao.
Take Aaron's priestly garments off him and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron must die and be gathered to his people there.”
27 Ary Mosesy nanao araka izay nandidian’ i Jehovah; dia niakatra tao an-tendrombohitra Hora teo imason’ ny fiangonana rehetra izy telo mianaka.
Moses did as Yahweh commanded. They went up Mount Hor in the sight of all the community.
28 Dia nesorin’ i Mosesy ny fitafian’ i Arona ka natafiny an’ i Eleazara zanany; ary maty tao an-tampon’ ny tendrombohitra Arona; dia nidina avy tao an-tendrombohitra Mosesy sy Eleazara.
Moses took Aaron's priestly garments off him and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron died there on the top of the mountain. Then Moses and Eleazar came down.
29 Koa nony hitan’ ny fiangonana rehetra fa maty Arona, dia nisaona azy telo-polo andro izy, dia ny taranak’ Isiraely rehetra.
When all the community saw that Aaron was dead, the entire nation wept for Aaron for thirty days.
