< Mpitsara 20 >
1 Dia nivoaka ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra, ary ny fiangonana hatrany Dana ka hatrany Beri-sheba ary ny tany Gileada koa nivory tahaka ny olona iray ho any amin’ i Jehovah tany Mizpa.
Then all the people of Israel came out as one man, from Dan to Beersheba, including the land of Gilead also, and they assembled together before Yahweh at Mizpah.
2 Ary ny loholona rehetra tamin’ ny firenen’ Isiraely niseho teo amin’ ny fiangonan’ ny olon’ Andriamanitra, dia lehilahy efatra hetsy mandeha tongotra sady mahatan-tsabatra.
The leaders of all the people, of all the tribes of Israel, took their places in the assembly of the people of God—400,000 men on foot, who were ready to fight with the sword.
3 Ary ren’ ny taranak’ i Benjamina fa niakatra ho any Mizpa ny Zanak’ Isiraely. Dia hoy ny Zanak’ Isiraely: Lazao izay nahatonga izao ratsy izao.
Now the people of Benjamin heard that the people of Israel had gone up to Mizpah. The people of Israel said, “Tell us how this wicked thing happened.”
4 Dia namaly ilay Levita, vadin-dravehivavy novonoina, ka nanao hoe: Tonga tany Gibea, izay an’ ny Benjamita, izaho sy ny vaditsindranoko handry tao.
The Levite, the husband of the woman who had been murdered, answered, “I came to Gibeah in the territory that belongs to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to spend the night.
5 Dia nitsangana hamely ahy ny mponina tao Gibea ka nanodidina ny trano hamely ahy tamin’ ny alina; izaho saiky novonoiny, ary ny vaditsindranoko nandriany ka matiny.
During the night, the leaders of Gibeah attacked me, surrounding the house, intending to kill me. They raped my concubine, and she died.
6 Dia nalaiko ny vaditsindranoko ka norasaiko ary nampitondraiko tany amin’ ny tany rehetra izay lovan’ ny Isiraely, satria efa nanao fahavetavetana sy zavatra fady indrindra teo amin’ ny Isiraely ireo.
I took my concubine and cut her body into pieces, and sent them into each region of Israel's inheritance, because they have committed such wickedness and outrage in Israel.
7 Koa indreto ianareo Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra, mba alaharo izay teny sy hevitrareo.
Now, all you Israelites, give your advice and counsel here.”
8 Dia nitsangana tahaka ny olona iray ny vahoaka rehetra ka nanao hoe: Tsy hisy hankany amin’ ny laintsika akory isika, ary tsy hisy hody any an-tranontsika akory.
All the people arose together as one man, and they said, “None of us will go to his tent, and none of us will return to his house!
9 Fa ankehitriny, izao no hataontsika amin’ i Gibea: araka ny filokana no aoka hanaovantsika azy.
But now this is what we must do to Gibeah: We will attack it as the lot directs us.
10 Ary haka folo lahy isan-jato amin’ ny firenen’ Isiraely rehetra isika, dia zato amin’ ny arivo, ary arivo amin’ ny iray alina, mba haka vatsy ho an’ ny olona, ka rehefa tonga any Gibean’ ny Benjamina izy, dia araka ilay zavatra fady indrindra efa nataony teo amin’ ny Isiraely no hataony aminy.
We will take ten men of a hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and one hundred of a thousand, and one thousand of ten thousand, to get provisions for these people, so that when they come to Gibeah in Benjamin, they may punish them for the wickedness they committed in Israel.”
11 Dia nivory ny lehilahy rehetra amin’ ny Isiraely ka efa nikambana tahaka ny olona iray hamely ny tanàna.
So all the soldiers of Israel assembled against the city, as one man.
12 Ary ny firenen’ Isiraely dia naniraka olona tany amin’ ny firenen’ i Benjamina rehetra hanao hoe: Inona izao ratsy natao teto aminareo izao?
The tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “What is this wickedness that was done among you?
13 Koa ankehitriny atolory anay ireo olona tena ratsy fanahy avy any Gibea ireo, mba hataonay maty izy, ka hesorinay tsy ho eo amin’ ny Isiraely ny ratsy. Fa ny taranak’ i Benjamina tsy nety nihaino ny feon’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely rahalahiny.
Therefore, give us those wicked men of Gibeah, so we may put them to death, and so we will completely remove this evil from Israel.” But the Benjamites would not listen to the voice of their brothers, the people of Israel.
14 Ary nivory ny taranak’ i Benjamina avy tamin’ ny tanànany rehetra hankany Gibea mba handeha hiady amin’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely.
Then the people of Benjamin came together out of the cities to Gibeah to get ready to fight against the people of Israel.
15 Dia voalamina tamin’ izany andro izany ny taranak’ i Benjamina avy tamin’ ireo tanàna ireo, ka enina arivo sy roa alin-dahy nahatan-tsabatra, afa-tsy ny mponina tao Gibea izay voalamina, dia fiton-jato lahy voafantina.
The people of Benjamin brought together from their cities to fight on that day twenty-six thousand soldiers who were trained to fight with the sword. In addition, there were seven hundred of their chosen men from the inhabitants of Gibeah.
16 Ary teo amin’ izany olona rehetra izany nisy olona kavia fiton-jato lahy nofantenany, samy nahay nitoraka tamin’ ny antsamotady, ka tsy nisy nivena na dia hoatra ny singam-bolo aza.
Among all these soldiers were seven hundred chosen men who were left-handed. Each of them could sling a stone at a hair and not miss.
17 Ary ny lehilahy voalamina tamin’ ny Isiraely, afa-tsy ny Benjamina, dia efatra hetsy nahatan-tsabatra; mpanafika avokoa ireo rehetra ireo.
The people of Israel, not counting the number from Benjamin, numbered 400,000 men, who were trained to fight with the sword. All of these were men of war.
18 Dia niainga ny Zanak’ Isiraely ka niakatra tany Betela ary nanontany tamin’ Andriamanitra hoe: Iza no hiakatra voalohany hiady amin’ ny taranak’ i Benjamina ho anay? Dia hoy Jehovah: Joda no ho voalohany.
The people of Israel arose, went up to Bethel, and asked for advice from God. They asked, “Who first will attack the people of Benjamin for us?” Yahweh said, “Judah will attack first.”
19 Dia niainga maraina koa ny Zanak’ Isiraely ka nitoby tandrifin’ i Gibea.
The people of Israel got up in the morning and they moved their camp near Gibeah.
20 Ary nivoaka ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely hiady amin’ ny Benjamita; ary nilahatra ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely hiady aminy tao akaiky an’ i Gibea.
The people of Israel went out to fight against Benjamin. They set up their battle positions against them at Gibeah.
21 Ary nivoaka avy tany Gibea kosa ny taranak’ i Benjamina ka naharingana ny Zanak’ Isiraely roa arivo sy roa alin-dahy niampatrampatra tamin’ ny tany tamin’ izany andro izany.
The people of Benjamin came out of Gibeah, and they killed twenty-two thousand men of the army of Israel on that day.
22 Fa nifanome toky ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely ka nilahatra hiady indray teo amin’ ilay nilaharany tamin’ ny andro voalohany.
But the people of Israel strengthened themselves and they formed the battle line in the same place where they had taken positions on the first day.
23 Ary niakatra ny Zanak’ Isiraely ka nitomany teo anatrehan’ i Jehovah mandra-paharivan’ ny andro, dia nanontany tamin’ i Jehovah hoe: Handroso indray va aho hiady amin’ ny taranak’ i Benjamina rahalahiko? Ary hoy Jehovah: Miakara hiady aminy.
Then the people of Israel went up and they wept before Yahweh until evening, and they sought direction from Yahweh. They said, “Should we go again to fight against our brothers, the people of Benjamin?” Yahweh said, “Attack them!”
24 Ary ny Zanak’ Isiraely dia nandroso tamin’ ny andro faharoa hiady amin’ ny taranak’ i Benjamina.
So the people of Israel went against the soldiers of Benjamin the second day.
25 Dia nivoaka avy tany Gibea ny Benjamita hiady aminy indray tamin’ ny andro faharoa ka naharingana ny Zanak’ Isiraely valo arivo sy iray alin-dahy niampatrampatra tamin’ ny tany; nahatan-tsabatra avokoa ireo rehetra ireo.
On the second day, Benjamin went out against them from Gibeah and they killed eighteen thousand men from the people of Israel. All were men who trained to fight with the sword.
26 Dia niakatra ny Zanak’ Isiraely rehetra sy ny olona rehetra ka nankany Betela, dia nitomany sy nipetraka teo anatrehan’ i Jehovah ary nifady hanina tamin’ izany andro izany mandra-paharivan’ ny andro; ary nanatitra fanatitra dorana sy fanati-pihavanana teo anatrehan’ i Jehovah izy.
Then all the soldiers of Israel and all the people went up to Bethel and wept, and there they sat before Yahweh and they fasted that day until the evening and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yahweh.
27 Dia nanontany tamin’ i Jehovah ny Zanak’ Isiraely (fa tao ny fiaran’ ny faneken’ Andriamanitra tamin’ izany andro izany,
The people of Israel asked Yahweh—for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,
28 ary Finehasa, zanak’ i Eleazara, zanak’ i Arona, nijanona teo anoloany tamin’ izany andro izany) ka nanao hoe: Mbola hivoaka indray va aho hiady amin’ ny taranak’ i Benjamina rahalahiko, sa hitsahatra? Ary hoy Jehovah: Miakara, fa rahampitso dia hatolotro ho eo an-tananao izy.
and Phinehas, son of Eleazar son of Aaron, was serving before the ark in those days—”Should we go out to battle once more against the people of Benjamin, our brothers, or stop?” Yahweh said, “Attack, for tomorrow I will help you defeat them.”
29 Ary nasian’ ny Isiraely otrika manodidina an’ i Gibea.
So Israel set men in secret places around Gibeah.
30 Dia niakatra ny Zanak’ Isiraely tamin’ ny andro fahatelo hiady amin’ ny taranak’ i Benjamina ka nilahatra tandrifin’ i Gibea tahaka ilay teo aloha ihany.
The people of Israel fought against the people of Benjamin for the third day, and they formed their battle lines against Gibeah as they had done before.
31 Dia nivoaka ny taranak’ i Benjamina hiady tamin’ ny olona ka voatarika niala tamin’ ny tanàna izy ary nanomboka namely sy nahafaty ny olona tahaka ny teo aloha, dia tokony ho telo-polo lahy teo amin’ ny Isiraely tany an-tsampanan-dalana, miakatra ho any Betela ny anankiray, ary ny anankiray kosa ho any Gibea any an-tsaha.
The people of Benjamin went and fought against the people, and they were drawn away from the city. They began to kill some of the people. There were about thirty men of Israel who died in the fields and on the roads. One of the roads went up to Bethel, and the other went to Gibeah.
32 Ary hoy ny taranak’ i Benjamina: Resy eo anoloantsika tahaka ilay teo aloha ihany izy. Fa hoy ny Zanak’ Isiraely: Andeha hanao tari-dositra isika mba hampiala azy amin’ ny tanàna ho any an-dalambe.
Then the people of Benjamin said, “They are defeated and they are running away from us, just as at first.” But the soldiers of Israel said, “Let us run back and draw them away from the city to the roads.”
33 Ary ny lehilahy rehetra amin’ ny Isiraely nitsangana niala tamin’ ny fitoerany ka nilahatra tany Bala-tamara; ary ny Isiraely izay nanotrika dia niroatra avy tamin’ fitoerany, avy tao an-tsahan’ i Gibea.
All the people of Israel rose up out of their places and formed themselves into lines for battle at Baal Tamar. Then the soldiers of Israel who had been hiding in secret places ran out from their places from Maareh Gibeah.
34 Ary tonga tandrifin’ i Gibea ny iray alin-dahy voafantina tamin’ ny Isiraely rehetra, ary efa mafy ny ady nefa tsy fantatry ny Benjamita fa efa hiharan-doza izy.
There came out against Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and the fighting was fierce, but the Benjamites did not know that disaster was close to them.
35 Ary Jehovah namely ny Benjamita teo anoloan’ ny Isiraely, ary tamin’ izany andro izany ny taranak’ i Benjamina dia nahafatesan’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely zato sy dimy arivo amby roa alin-dahy; nahatan-tsabatra avokoa ireo rehetra ireo.
Yahweh defeated Benjamin before Israel. On that day, the soldiers of Israel killed 25,100 men of Benjamin. All these who died were those who had been trained to fight with the sword.
36 Ary hitan’ ny taranak’ i Benjamina fa resy izy; ary ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely nanao tari-dositra tamin’ ny Benjamita, satria natoky ny otrika izay efa napetrany teo akaikin’ i Gibea izy.
So the soldiers of Benjamin saw they were defeated. The men of Israel had given ground to Benjamin, because they were counting on the men they had placed in hidden positions outside Gibeah.
37 Ary ny otrika niroatra faingana hankany Gibea, dia nandeha faingana ka namely ny tanàna rehetra tamin’ ny lelan-tsabatra.
Then the men who were hiding got up and hurried and they rushed into Gibeah, and they struck all the city with the edge of the sword.
38 Ary ny famantarana nifaneken’ ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely sy ny otrika dia tsangan’ afo lehibe hisavoana ao an-tanàna.
The arranged signal between the soldiers of Israel and the men hiding in secret would be that a great cloud of smoke would rise up out of the city.
39 Ary nirona tamin’ ny ady ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely (ny taranak’ i Benjamina nanomboka namely sy nahafaty ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely tokony ho telo-polo lahy; fa hoy izy: Resy tokoa eo anoloantsika izy tahaka ny tamin’ ny ady voalohany;
When the signal was sent the soldiers of Israel would turn from the battle. Now Benjamin began to attack and they killed about thirty men of Israel, and they said, “It is sure that they are defeated before us, as in the first battle.”
40 fa raha vao niakatra avy tao amin’ ny tanàna ny setroka mitankosina, dia niherika ny taranak’ i Benjamina; ary, indro, niakatra ho amin’ ny lanitra avokoa ny setroky ny tanàna).
But when a pillar of smoke began to rise up out of the city, the Benjamites turned and saw the smoke rising to the sky from the whole city.
41 Ary raha niverina ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely, dia talanjona ny Benjamita, satria hitany fa efa nidiran-doza izy.
Then the people of Israel turned against them. The men of Benjamin were terrified, for they saw that disaster had come on them.
42 Dia niamboho teo anoloan’ ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely hankany amin’ ny lalana ho any an-efitra izy, fa ny ady nahatratra azy: ary izay nivoaka avy tao amin’ ny tanàna koa dia novonoiny teo.
So they ran away from the people of Israel, escaping on the way to the wilderness. But the fighting overtook them. The soldiers of Israel came out of the cities and killed them where they stood.
43 Nanemitra ny Benjamita izy ka nanenjika azy ary nanitsaka azy mora foana tandrifin’ i Gibea atsinanany.
They surrounded the Benjamites, chased them and trampled them down at Nohah, all the way to the east side of Gibeah.
44 Ary ny Benjamita dia nahafatesany valo arivo sy iray alin-dahy; lehilahy nahery avokoa ireo rehetra ireo.
From the tribe of Benjamin, eighteen thousand people died, all of them men who were distinguished in battle.
45 Dia nivily sy sisa ka nandositra nankany an-efitra ho any amin’ ny harambato any Rimona; ary ny voatsimpona teny an-dalana dia dimy arivo lahy, ary ny voatsimpona teny an-dalana dia dimy arivo lahy, ary mbola nenjehiny mafy ihany hatrany Gidoma izy ka nahafatesany roa arivo lahy.
They turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon. The Israelites killed five thousand more of them along the roads. They kept going after them, following them closely all the way to Gidom, and there they killed two thousand more.
46 Ary ny Benjamita rehetra izay lavo tamin’ izany andro izany dia dimy arivo sy roa alin-dahy nahatan-tsabatra; lehilahy nahery avokoa ireo rehetra ireo.
All the soldiers of Benjamin who fell that day were twenty-five thousand—men who were trained to fight with the sword; all of them were distinguished in battle.
47 Fa nisy enin-jato lahy nihodina ka nandositra nankany an-efitra ho any amin’ ny harambato any Rimona, dia nitoetra tao efa-bolana.
But six hundred men turned and fled to the wilderness, toward the rock of Rimmon. For four months they stayed at the rock of Rimmon.
48 Ary ny lehilahy amin’ ny Isiraely niverina indray tany amin’ ny taranak’ i Benjamina ka namely azy tamin’ ny lelan-tsabatra, hatramin’ ny olona tao an-tanàna ka hatramin’ ny biby fiompy ary izay hitany dia nodorany tamin’ ny afo avokoa.
The soldiers of Israel turned back against the people of Benjamin and struck them with the edge of the sword, the city, including the animals and everything that they found. They also burned down every town in their path.
