1 Eyeggya ku banne aba yeerowoozako yekka, era tawuliriza magezi gamuweebwa.
For [an object of] desire he who is separated doth seek, With all wisdom he intermeddleth.
2 Omusirusiru tasanyukira kutegeera, ky’asanyukira kyokka kwe kwogera by’alowooza.
A fool delighteth not in understanding, But — in uncovering his heart.
3 Okukola ekibi bwe kujja n’okunyooma kujjirako, era awali okuyisaamu omuntu amaaso wabaawo okunyoomoola.
With the coming of the wicked come also hath contempt, And with shame — reproach.
4 Ebigambo by’omu kamwa k’omuntu mazzi ga buziba, naye ensulo ey’amagezi mugga ogukulukuta.
Deep waters [are] the words of a man's mouth, The fountain of wisdom [is] a flowing brook.
5 Si kirungi kuttira mubi ku liiso, oba okusaliriza omutuukirivu.
Acceptance of the face of the wicked [is] not good, To turn aside the righteous in judgment.
6 Akamwa k’omusirusiru kamuleetera entalo era akamwa ke kamuleetera okukubwa emiggo.
The lips of a fool enter into strife, And his mouth for stripes calleth.
7 Akamwa k’omusirusiru ke kamuleetera okuzikirira, era n’emimwa gye mutego eri emmeeme ye.
The mouth of a fool [is] ruin to him, And his lips [are] the snare of his soul.
8 Ebigambo by’omuntu ageya biri ng’emmere ewoomerera, bigenda mu bitundu by’omubiri eby’ewala.
The words of a tale-bearer [are] as self-inflicted wounds, And they have gone down [to] the inner parts of the heart.
9 Omuntu omugayaavu mu mirimu gy’akola, waluganda n’oyo azikiriza.
He also that is remiss in his work, A brother he [is] to a destroyer.
10 Erinnya lya Mukama kigo ky’amaanyi, omutuukirivu addukira omwo n’afuna emirembe.
A tower of strength [is] the name of Jehovah, Into it the righteous runneth, and is set on high.
11 Obugagga bw’omugagga, kye kibuga kye ekiriko bbugwe ow’amaanyi, era mu kulaba kwe, kigo kye ekigumu ekitarinnyika.
The wealth of the rich [is] the city of his strength, And as a wall set on high in his own imagination.
12 Omuntu nga tannagwa, omutima gwe gwegulumiza, naye okwetoowaza kumuweesa ekitiibwa.
Before destruction the heart of man is high, And before honour [is] humility.
13 Oyo addamu amangu mu nsonga gy’ateetegerezza, buba busirusiru bwe era buswavu.
Whoso is answering a matter before he heareth, Folly it is to him and shame.
14 Omwoyo gw’omuntu gumuwanirira mu bulwadde, naye emmeeme eyennyise ani ayinza okugigumiikiriza?
The spirit of a man sustaineth his sickness, And a smitten spirit who doth bear?
15 Omutima gw’omwegendereza guyiga okumanya, amatu g’omuntu omugezi gawuliriza.
The heart of the intelligent getteth knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
16 Ekirabo ky’omuntu kimuseguliza, era kimutuusa ne mu maaso g’abeekitiibwa.
The gift of a man maketh room for him, And before the great it leadeth him.
17 Asooka okweyogerako y’afaanana ng’omutuufu, okutuusa omulala lw’amubuuza ebibuuzo.
Righteous [is] the first in his own cause, His neighbour cometh and hath searched him.
18 Okukuba akalulu kimalawo empaka, era kisalawo eggoye wakati w’abawakana ab’amaanyi.
The lot causeth contentions to cease, And between the mighty it separateth.
19 Kyangu okuwamba ekibuga ekiriko bbugwe ow’amaanyi, okusinga okukomyawo owooluganda anyiize, era ennyombo ziba ng’empagi z’ekigo.
A brother transgressed against is as a strong city, And contentions as the bar of a palace.
20 Omuntu anakkutanga ebigambo ebiva mu kamwa ke; ebibala ebijjula akamwa ke bye binamukkusanga.
From the fruit of a man's mouth is his belly satisfied, [From the] increase of his lips he is satisfied.
21 Olulimi lulina obuyinza okuwa obulamu oba okutta, era n’abo abalwagala balirya ebibala byalwo.
Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue, And those loving it eat its fruit.
22 Azuula omukazi omulungi ow’okuwasa aba azudde ekirungi, era aganja eri Mukama.
[Whoso] hath found a wife hath found good, And bringeth out good-will from Jehovah.
23 Omwavu yeegayirira, naye omugagga addamu na bbogo.
[With] supplications doth the poor speak, And the rich answereth fierce things.
24 Akwana emikwano emingi yeereetera okuzikirira, naye wabaawo ow’omukwano akwagala ennyo okusinga owooluganda.
A man with friends [is] to show himself friendly, And there is a lover adhering more than a brother!
