1 Omwana omugezi assaayo omwoyo eri ebiragiro bya kitaawe, naye omunyoomi tafaayo ku kunenyezebwa.
A wise son listens to his father’s instruction, but a scoffer does not sh'ma ·hear obey· rebuke.
2 Omuntu asanyuka olw’ebirungi ebiva mu bibala bya kamwa ke, naye atali mwesigwa yeegomba kuleeta ntalo.
By the fruit of his lips, a man enjoys good things; but the unfaithful crave violence.
3 Oyo eyeegendereza by’ayogera akuuma obulamu bwe, naye oyo amala googera, alizikirira.
He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
4 Omuntu omugayaavu yeegomba kyokka n’atabaako ky’afuna, naye omunyiikivu byayagala byonna abifuna.
The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing, but the desire of the diligent shall be fully satisfied.
5 Omuntu omutuukirivu akyawa obulimba, naye omukozi w’ebibi yeereetera kunyoomebwa.
A upright man hates lies, but a wicked man brings shame and disgrace.
6 Obutuukirivu bukuuma omuntu omwesimbu, naye okukola ebibi kuzikiriza omwonoonyi.
Righteousness guards the way of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the person of habitual sin ·missing the mark·.
7 Omuntu omu ayinza okwefuula omugagga ate nga taliiko ky’alina, ate omulala ne yeefuula okuba omwavu so nga mugagga nnyo.
There are some who pretend to be rich, yet have nothing. There are some who pretend to be poor, yet have great wealth.
8 Obugagga bw’omuntu buyinza okumununula, naye omwavu talina ky’atya.
The ransom of a man’s life is his riches, but the poor sh'ma ·hear obey· no threats.
9 Ekitangaala ky’abatuukirivu kyaka nnyo, naye ettaala y’abakozi b’ebibi ezikira.
The light of the upright shines brightly, but the lamp candle of the wicked is snuffed out.
10 Amalala gazaala buzaazi nnyombo, naye amagezi gasangibwa mu abo abakkiriza okulabulwa.
Pride only breeds quarrels, but with ones who take advice is wisdom.
11 Ensimbi enkumpanye ziggwaawo, naye ezijja empolampola zeeyongera obungi.
Wealth gained dishonestly dwindles away, but he who gathers by hand makes it grow.
12 Essuubi erirwawo okutuukirira lirwaza omutima, naye ekyegombebwa bwe kituukirira kiba muti gwa bulamu.
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when longing is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.
13 Omuntu anyooma ebiragiro aligwa mu mitawaana, naye oyo awuliriza ebimulagirwa aliweebwa empeera.
Whoever despises instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a charge will be rewarded.
14 Okuyigiriza kw’omuntu alina amagezi nsulo ya bulamu, era kuggya omuntu mu mitego gy’okufa.
The teaching of the wise is a spring of life, to turn from the snares of death.
15 Okutegeera okulungi kuleeta okuganja, naye ekkubo ly’abateesigibwa liba zzibu.
Good understanding wins chen ·grace·; but the way of the unfaithful is hard.
16 Omuntu omwegendereza akola amaze kulowooza, naye omusirusiru alaga obutamanya bwe.
Every prudent man acts from knowledge, but a fool exposes folly.
17 Omubaka omubi yeesuula mu mitawaana, naye omubaka omwesigwa aleeta kuwonyezebwa.
A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a trustworthy envoy gains healing.
18 Anyooma okukangavvulwa yeereetako obwavu n’obuswavu, naye oyo assaayo omwoyo ku kunenyezebwa aweebwa ekitiibwa.
Poverty and shame come to him who refuses discipline, but he who heeds correction shall be honored.
19 Ekyegombebwa bwe kituukirira kisanyusa omutima, naye okulekayo okukola ebibi kya muzizo eri abasirusiru.
Longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but fools detest turning from evil.
20 Oyo atambula n’abantu abagezi ageziwala, naye oyo atambula n’abasirusiru alaba ennaku.
One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.
21 Emitawaana gigoberera aboonoonyi, naye okukulaakulana y’empeera y’abatuukirivu.
Misfortune pursues people who sin ·intentionally miss the mark goal·, but prosperity rewards the upright.
22 Omuntu omulungi alekera bazzukulu be ebyobusika, naye obugagga bw’omwonoonyi buterekerwa omutuukirivu.
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the wealth of the sinner ·deviant (from the standard goal) person· is stored for the upright.
23 Ennimiro z’abaavu ziyinza okuvaamu emmere nnyingi, naye obutali bwenkanya ne bugyera yonna.
An abundance of food is in poor people’s fields, but lo'mishpat ·injustice· sweeps it away.
24 Atakozesa kaggo akyawa omwana we, naye oyo amwagala afaayo okumukangavvula.
One who spares the rod hates his son, but one who 'ahav ·affectionately loves· him is careful to discipline him.
25 Omutuukirivu alya emmere ye n’akkuta, naye abakozi b’ebibi basigala nga bayala.
The upright one eats to the satisfying of his soul, but the belly of the wicked goes hungry.
