ルカの福音書 1
1 私たちの間ですでに確信されている出来事については、初めからの目撃者で、みことばに仕える者となった人々が、私たちに伝えたそのとおりを、多くの人が記事にまとめて書き上げようと、すでに試みておりますので、
Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,
Even as they delivered them to us, who from the beginning were eye-witnesses, and ministers of the word;
3 私も、すべてのことを初めから綿密に調べておりますから、あなたのために、順序を立てて書いて差し上げるのがよいと思います。尊敬するテオピロ殿。
It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,
4 それによって、すでに教えを受けられた事がらが正確な事実であることを、よくわかっていただきたいと存じます。
That thou mayest know the certainty of those things in which thou hast been instructed.
5 ユダヤの王ヘロデの時に、アビヤの組の者でザカリヤという祭司がいた。彼の妻はアロンの子孫で、名をエリサベツといった。
There was in the days of Herod the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife [was] of the daughters of Aaron, and her name [was] Elisabeth.
6 ふたりとも、神の御前に正しく、主のすべての戒めと定めを落度なく踏み行なっていた。
And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
7 エリサベツは不妊の女だったので、彼らには子がなく、ふたりとももう年をとっていた。
And they had no child, because Elisabeth was barren, and they both were far advanced in years.
8 さて、ザカリヤは、自分の組が当番で、神の御前に祭司の務めをしていたが、
And it came to pass, that, while he executed the priests' office before God in the order of his course,
9 祭司職の習慣によって、くじを引いたところ、主の神殿にはいって香をたくことになった。
According to the custom of the priests' office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.
10 彼が香をたく間、大ぜいの民はみな、外で祈っていた。
And the whole multitude of the people were praying without, at the time of incense.
11 ところが、主の使いが彼に現われて、香壇の右に立った。
And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord, standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
12 これを見たザカリヤは不安を覚え、恐怖に襲われたが、
And when Zacharias saw [him], he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
13 御使いは彼に言った。「こわがることはない。ザカリヤ。あなたの願いが聞かれたのです。あなたの妻エリサベツは男の子を産みます。名をヨハネとつけなさい。
But the angel said to him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
14 その子はあなたにとって喜びとなり楽しみとなり、多くの人もその誕生を喜びます。
And thou shalt have joy and gladness, and many shall rejoice at his birth.
15 彼は主の御前にすぐれた者となるからです。彼は、ぶどう酒も強い酒も飲まず、まだ母の胎内にあるときから聖霊に満たされ、
For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.
16 そしてイスラエルの多くの子らを、彼らの神である主に立ち返らせます。
And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
17 彼こそ、エリヤの霊と力で主の前ぶれをし、父たちの心を子どもたちに向けさせ、逆らう者を義人の心に立ち戻らせ、こうして、整えられた民を主のために用意するのです。」
And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
18 そこで、ザカリヤは御使いに言った。「私は何によってそれを知ることができましょうか。私ももう年寄りですし、妻も年をとっております。」
And Zacharias said to the angel, By what shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife far advanced in years.
19 御使いは答えて言った。「私は神の御前に立つガブリエルです。あなたに話をし、この喜びのおとずれを伝えるように遣わされているのです。
And the angel answering, said to him, I am Gabriel, who stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak to thee, and to show thee these glad tidings.
20 ですから、見なさい。これらのことが起こる日までは、あなたは、おしになって、ものが言えなくなります。私のことばを信じなかったからです。私のことばは、その時が来れば実現します。」
And behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words which shall be fulfilled in their season.
21 人々はザカリヤを待っていたが、神殿であまり暇取るので不思議に思った。
And the people waited for Zacharias, and marveled that he tarried so long in the temple.
22 やがて彼は出て来たが、人々に話をすることができなかった。それで、彼は神殿で幻を見たのだとわかった。ザカリヤは、彼らに合図を続けるだけで、おしのままであった。
And when he came out, he could not speak to them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple; for he beckoned to them, and remained speechless.
23 やがて、務めの期間が終わったので、彼は自分の家に帰った。
And it came to pass, that as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house.
24 その後、妻エリサベツはみごもり、五か月の間引きこもって、こう言った。
And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and secluded herself five months, saying,
25 「主は、人中で私の恥を取り除こうと心にかけられ、今、私をこのようにしてくださいました。」
Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days in which he looked on [me], to take away my reproach among men.
26 ところで、その六か月目に、御使いガブリエルが、神から遣わされてガリラヤのナザレという町のひとりの処女のところに来た。
And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
27 この処女は、ダビデの家系のヨセフという人のいいなずけで、名をマリヤといった。
To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name [was] Mary.
28 御使いは、はいって来ると、マリヤに言った。「おめでとう、恵まれた方。主があなたとともにおられます。」
And the angel came to her, and said, Hail, [thou that art] highly favored, the Lord [is] with thee: blessed [art] thou among women.
29 しかし、マリヤはこのことばに、ひどくとまどって、これはいったい何のあいさつかと考え込んだ。
And when she saw [him], she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
30 すると御使いが言った。「こわがることはない。マリヤ。あなたは神から恵みを受けたのです。
And the angel said to her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God.
31 ご覧なさい。あなたはみごもって、男の子を産みます。名をイエスとつけなさい。
And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
32 その子はすぐれた者となり、いと高き方の子と呼ばれます。また、神である主は彼にその父ダビデの王位をお与えになります。
He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David.
And he will reign over the house of Jacob for ever, and of his kingdom there will be no end. (aiōn g165)
34 そこで、マリヤは御使いに言った。「どうしてそのようなことになりえましょう。私はまだ男の人を知りませんのに。」
Then said Mary to the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35 御使いは答えて言った。「聖霊があなたの上に臨み、いと高き方の力があなたをおおいます。それゆえ、生まれる者は、聖なる者、神の子と呼ばれます。
And the angel answered and said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon thee, and the power of the Highest will overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
36 ご覧なさい。あなたの親類のエリサベツも、あの年になって男の子を宿しています。不妊の女といわれていた人なのに、今はもう六か月です。
And behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren:
37 神にとって不可能なことは一つもありません。」
For with God nothing will be impossible.
38 マリヤは言った。「ほんとうに、私は主のはしためです。どうぞ、あなたのおことばどおりこの身になりますように。」こうして御使いは彼女から去って行った。
And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it to me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
39 そのころ、マリヤは立って、山地にあるユダの町に急いだ。
And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill-country with haste, into a city of Judah,
40 そしてザカリヤの家に行って、エリサベツにあいさつした。
And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.
41 エリサベツがマリヤのあいさつを聞いたとき、子が胎内でおどり、エリサベツは聖霊に満たされた。
And it came to pass, that when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb: and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
42 そして大声をあげて言った。「あなたは女の中の祝福された方。あなたの胎の実も祝福されています。
And she spoke with a loud voice, and said, Blessed [art] thou among women, and blessed [is] the fruit of thy womb.
43 私の主の母が私のところに来られるとは、何ということでしょう。
And whence [is] this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44 ほんとうに、あなたのあいさつの声が私の耳にはいったとき、私の胎内で子どもが喜んでおどりました。
For lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
45 主によって語られたことは必ず実現すると信じきった人は、何と幸いなことでしょう。」
And blessed [is] she that believed that there will be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.
46 マリヤは言った。 「わがたましいは主をあがめ、
And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
47 わが霊は、わが救い主なる神を喜びたたえます。
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior.
48 主はこの卑しいはしために 目を留めてくださったからです。 ほんとうに、これから後、どの時代の人々も、 私をしあわせ者と思うでしょう。
For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for behold, from henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
49 力ある方が、 私に大きなことをしてくださいました。 その御名はきよく、
For he that is mighty hath done to me great things, and holy [is] his name.
50 そのあわれみは、主を恐れかしこむ者に、 代々にわたって及びます。
And his mercy [is] on them that fear him, from generation to generation.
51 主は、御腕をもって力強いわざをなし、 心の思いの高ぶっている者を追い散らし、
He hath shown strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
52 権力ある者を王位から引き降ろされます。 低い者を高く引き上げ、
He hath put down the mighty from [their] seats, and exalted them of low degree.
53 飢えた者を良いもので満ち足らせ、 富む者を何も持たせないで追い返されました。
He hath filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he hath sent away empty.
54 主はそのあわれみをいつまでも忘れないで、 そのしもべイスラエルをお助けになりました。
He hath sustained his servant Israel, in remembrance of [his] mercy;
As he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever. (aiōn g165)
56 マリヤは三か月ほどエリサベツと暮らして、家に帰った。
And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.
57 さて月が満ちて、エリサベツは男の子を産んだ。
Now Elisabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
58 近所の人々や親族は、主がエリサベツに大きなあわれみをおかけになったと聞いて、彼女とともに喜んだ。
And her neighbors and her cousins heard that the Lord had shown great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.
59 さて八日目に、人々は幼子に割礼するためにやって来て、幼子を父の名にちなんでザカリヤと名づけようとしたが、
And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
60 母は答えて、「いいえ、そうではなくて、ヨハネという名にしなければなりません。」と言った。
And his mother answered and said, Not [so]; but he shall be called John.
61 彼らは彼女に、「あなたの親族にはそのような名の人はひとりもいません。」と言った。
And they said to her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.
62 そして、身振りで父親に合図して、幼子に何という名をつけるつもりかと尋ねた。
And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.
63 すると、彼は書き板を持って来させて、「彼の名はヨハネ。」と書いたので、人々はみな驚いた。
And he asked for a writing-table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they all wondered.
64 すると、たちどころに、彼の口が開け、舌は解け、ものが言えるようになって神をほめたたえた。
And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue [loosed], and he spoke, and praised God.
65 そして、近所の人々はみな恐れた。さらにこれらのことの一部始終が、ユダヤの山地全体にも語り伝えられて行った。
And fear came on all that dwelt around them; and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill-country of Judea.
66 聞いた人々はみな、それを心にとどめて、「いったいこの子は何になるのでしょう。」と言った。主の御手が彼とともにあったからである。
And all they that had heard [them], laid [them] up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child will this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.
67 さて父ザカリヤは、聖霊に満たされて、預言して言った。
And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying,
68 「ほめたたえよ。イスラエルの神である主を。 主はその民を顧みて、贖いをなし、
Blessed [be] the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people.
69 救いの角を、われらのために、 しもべダビデの家に立てられた。
And hath raised up a horn of salvation for us, in the house of his servant David:
As he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets, who have been since the world began: (aiōn g165)
71 この救いはわれらの敵からの、 すべてわれらを憎む者の手からの救いである。
That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;
72 主はわれらの父祖たちにあわれみを施し、 その聖なる契約を、
To perform the mercy [promised] to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant:
73 われらの父アブラハムに誓われた誓いを覚えて、
The oath which he swore to our father Abraham,
74 われらを敵の手から救い出し、 われらの生涯のすべての日に、 きよく、正しく、 恐れなく、主の御前に仕えることを許される。
That he would grant to us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, might serve him without fear,
In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
76 幼子よ。あなたもまた、 いと高き方の預言者と呼ばれよう。 主の御前に先立って行き、その道を備え、
And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest, for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
77 神の民に、罪の赦しによる 救いの知識を与えるためである。
To give knowledge of salvation to his people, by the remission of their sins,
78 これはわれらの神の深いあわれみによる。 そのあわれみにより、 日の出がいと高き所からわれらを訪れ、
Through the tender mercy of our God; by which the day-spring from on high hath visited us,
79 暗黒と死の陰にすわる者たちを照らし、 われらの足を平和の道に導く。」
To give light to them that sit in darkness and [in] the shades of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
80 さて、幼子は成長し、その霊は強くなり、イスラエルの民の前に公に出現する日まで荒野にいた。
And the child grew, and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his showing to Israel.
