マタイの福音書 4
1 さて、イエスは御霊によって荒野に導かれた。悪魔に試みられるためである。
Then was Jesus led up by the Spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the devil.
2 そして、四十日四十夜、断食をし、そののち空腹になられた。
And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward hungry.
3 すると試みる者がきて言った、「もしあなたが神の子であるなら、これらの石がパンになるように命じてごらんなさい」。
And the tempter came to him and said: If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.
4 イエスは答えて言われた、「『人はパンだけで生きるものではなく、神の口から出る一つ一つの言で生きるものである』と書いてある」。
But he answered and said: It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.
5 それから悪魔は、イエスを聖なる都に連れて行き、宮の頂上に立たせて
Then the devil took him into the holy city, and placed him on the pinnacle of the temple,
6 言った、「もしあなたが神の子であるなら、下へ飛びおりてごらんなさい。『神はあなたのために御使たちにお命じになると、あなたの足が石に打ちつけられないように、彼らはあなたを手でささえるであろう』と書いてありますから」。
and said to him: If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written: He will give his angels charge concerning you; and in their hands shall they take you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.
7 イエスは彼に言われた、「『主なるあなたの神を試みてはならない』とまた書いてある」。
Jesus said to him: It is again written, You shall not put the Lord your God to the proof.
8 次に悪魔は、イエスを非常に高い山に連れて行き、この世のすべての国々とその栄華とを見せて
Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them,
9 言った、「もしあなたが、ひれ伏してわたしを拝むなら、これらのものを皆あなたにあげましょう」。
and said to him: All these things will I give you, if you will fall down and worship me.
10 するとイエスは彼に言われた、「サタンよ、退け。『主なるあなたの神を拝し、ただ神にのみ仕えよ』と書いてある」。
Then Jesus said to him: Get behind me, Satan, for it is written: You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.
11 そこで、悪魔はイエスを離れ去り、そして、御使たちがみもとにきて仕えた。
Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and ministered to him.
12 さて、イエスはヨハネが捕えられたと聞いて、ガリラヤへ退かれた。
Now when Jesus heard that John was delivered up; he withdrew into Galilee;
13 そしてナザレを去り、ゼブルンとナフタリとの地方にある海べの町カペナウムに行って住まわれた。
and, leaving Nazareth, he went and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea, in the borders of Zebulon and Naphtali,
14 これは預言者イザヤによって言われた言が、成就するためである。
that the word might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:
15 「ゼブルンの地、ナフタリの地、海に沿う地方、ヨルダンの向こうの地、異邦人のガリラヤ、
The land of Zebulon, and the land of Naphtali, toward the sea beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;
16 暗黒の中に住んでいる民は大いなる光を見、死の地、死の陰に住んでいる人々に、光がのぼった」。
the people that sat in darkness saw great light; and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has risen.
17 この時からイエスは教を宣べはじめて言われた、「悔い改めよ、天国は近づいた」。
From that time Jesus began to preach and to say: Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
18 さて、イエスがガリラヤの海べを歩いておられると、ふたりの兄弟、すなわち、ペテロと呼ばれたシモンとその兄弟アンデレとが、海に網を打っているのをごらんになった。彼らは漁師であった。
And as he was walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, throwing a net into the sea, for they were fishers.
19 イエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしについてきなさい。あなたがたを、人間をとる漁師にしてあげよう」。
And he said to them: Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.
20 すると、彼らはすぐに網を捨てて、イエスに従った。
And they immediately left their nets and followed him.
21 そこから進んで行かれると、ほかのふたりの兄弟、すなわち、ゼベダイの子ヤコブとその兄弟ヨハネとが、父ゼベダイと一緒に、舟の中で網を繕っているのをごらんになった。そこで彼らをお招きになると、
And going on thence, he saw other two brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.
22 すぐ舟と父とをおいて、イエスに従って行った。
And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
23 イエスはガリラヤの全地を巡り歩いて、諸会堂で教え、御国の福音を宣べ伝え、民の中のあらゆる病気、あらゆるわずらいをおいやしになった。
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and curing every disease, and every kind of sickness among the people.
24 そこで、その評判はシリヤ全地にひろまり、人々があらゆる病にかかっている者、すなわち、いろいろの病気と苦しみとに悩んでいる者、悪霊につかれている者、てんかん、中風の者などをイエスのところに連れてきたので、これらの人々をおいやしになった。
And his fame went abroad into all Syria. And they brought to him all that were sick, those who were afflicted with various diseases and pains, and those who were possessed with demons, and lunatics, and paralytics; and he cured them.
25 こうして、ガリラヤ、デカポリス、エルサレム、ユダヤ及びヨルダンの向こうから、おびただしい群衆がきてイエスに従った。
And many multitudes followed him from Galilee, and Decapolis, and Jerusalem, and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.
