Numeri 32
1 I figli di Ruben e i figli di Gad avevano bestiame in numero molto grande; quando videro che il paese di Iazer e il paese di Gàlaad erano luoghi da bestiame,
Now, much cattle, had come into the possession of the sons of Reuben and of the sons of Gad, an exceeding mighty number. And when they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, lo! the place, was a place for cattle.
2 i figli di Gad e i figli di Ruben vennero a parlare a Mosè, al sacerdote Eleazaro e ai principi della comunità e dissero:
So the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben came in, —and spake unto Moses and unto Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of assembly, saying,
3 «Atarot, Dibon, Iazer, Nimra, Chesbon, Eleale, Sebam, Nebo e Beon,
As touching Ataroth and Dibon, and Jazer and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, —and Sebam and Nebo, and Beon-
4 terre che il Signore ha sconfitte alla presenza della comunità d'Israele, sono terre da bestiame e i tuoi servi hanno appunto il bestiame».
the land which Yahweh smote before the assembly of Israel, a land for cattle, it is, —and, thy servants, have cattle.
5 Aggiunsero: «Se abbiamo trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, sia concesso ai tuoi servi il possesso di questo paese: non ci far passare il Giordano».
And they said—If we have found favour in thine eyes, let this land be given unto thy servants, for a possession, —do not take us over the Jordan.
6 Ma Mosè rispose ai figli di Gad e ai figli di Ruben: «Andrebbero dunque i vostri fratelli in guerra e voi ve ne stareste qui?
Then said Moses unto the sons of Gad and unto the sons of Reuben, —Shall, your brethren, go into the war, and ye, settle down here?
7 Perché volete scoraggiare gli Israeliti dal passare nel paese che il Signore ha dato loro?
Wherefore, then, should ye dissuade the heart of the sons of Israel, from passing over into the land which Yahweh hath given to them?
8 Così fecero i vostri padri, quando li mandai da Kades-Barnea per esplorare il paese.
Thus, did your fathers, —when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea, to view the land,
9 Salirono fino alla valle di Escol e, dopo aver esplorato il paese, scoraggiarono gli Israeliti dall'entrare nel paese che il Signore aveva loro dato.
and they went up as far as the ravine of Eschol, and viewed the land, and then dissuaded the heart of the sons of Israel from entering into the land, which Yahweh had given them.
10 Così l'ira del Signore si accese in quel giorno ed egli giurò:
Then was the anger of Yahweh kindled on that day, —and he sware, saying:
11 Gli uomini che sono usciti dall'Egitto, dall'età di vent'anni in su, non vedranno mai il paese che ho promesso con giuramento ad Abramo, a Isacco e a Giacobbe, perché non mi hanno seguito fedelmente,
Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt from twenty years old and upwards, shall see the soil, which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac and unto Jacob, because they have not followed after me fully;
12 se non Caleb, figlio di Iefunne, il Kenizzita, e Giosuè figlio di Nun, che hanno seguito il Signore fedelmente.
save Caleb son of Jephunneh, the Kenezite, and Joshua, son of Nun, —for they followed after Yahweh, fully.
13 L'ira del Signore si accese dunque contro Israele; lo fece errare nel deserto per quarant'anni, finché fosse finita tutta la generazione che aveva agito male agli occhi del Signore.
So the anger of Yahweh kindled upon Israel, and he made them wander in the desert, forty years, —until all the generation who had done the evil in the eyes of Yahweh, had wasted away!
14 Ed ecco voi sorgerete al posto dei vostri padri, razza di uomini peccatori, per aumentare ancora l'ira del Signore contro Israele.
Lo! therefore, ye have arisen in the room of your fathers, a brood of sinful men, —to heap up yet more upon the heat of the anger of Yahweh, towards Israel.
15 Perché se voi non volete più seguirlo, il Signore continuerà a lasciarlo nel deserto e voi farete perire tutto questo popolo».
If ye do turn away from following him, then will he yet again leave them behind in the desert, —so shall ye bring destruction upon all this people.
16 Ma quelli si avvicinarono a lui e gli dissero: «Costruiremo qui ovili per il nostro bestiame e città per i nostri fanciulli;
Then came they near unto him, and said, Folds, for flocks, would we build for our cattle, here, —and cities for our little ones;
17 ma, quanto a noi, ci terremo pronti in armi, per marciare davanti agli Israeliti, finché li avremo condotti al luogo destinato loro; intanto, i nostri fanciulli dimoreranno nelle fortezze per timore degli abitanti del paese.
but, we, would arm ourselves promptly, before the sons of Israel, until that we have brought them into their place, —so should our little ones remain in the fortified cities, because of the inhabitants of the land.
18 Non torneremo alle nostre case finché ogni Israelita non abbia preso possesso della sua eredità;
We would not return unto our houses, —until the sons of Israel have possessed themselves each man, of his inheritance.
19 non possiederemo nulla con loro al di là del Giordano e più oltre, perché la nostra eredità ci è toccata da questa parte del Giordano, a oriente».
For we would not inherit with them, over the Jordan, and onwards, —because our inheritance hath come unto us on this side the Jordan towards sunrise.
20 Allora Mosè disse loro: «Se fate questo, se vi armate per andare a combattere davanti al Signore,
And Moses said unto them, If ye will indeed do this thing, —if ye will arm yourselves, before Yahweh, for the war;
21 se tutti quelli di voi che si armeranno passeranno il Giordano davanti al Signore finché egli abbia scacciato i suoi nemici dalla sua presenza,
and every armed man of you pass over the Jordan before Yahweh, —until he hath dispossessed his enemies, from before him;
22 se non tornerete fin quando il paese vi sarà sottomesso davanti al Signore, voi sarete innocenti di fronte al Signore e di fronte a Israele e questo paese sarà vostra proprietà alla presenza del Signore.
and the land be subdued before Yahweh then afterwards, shall ye return, and shall be acquitted by Yahweh and by Israel, —and this land shall be yours for a possession before Yahweh.
23 Ma, se non fate così, voi peccherete contro il Signore; sappiate che il vostro peccato vi raggiungerà.
But, if ye shall not do this, lo! ye will have sinned against Yahweh, —and take note of your sin, that it will find you out.
24 Costruitevi pure città per i vostri fanciulli e ovili per i vostri greggi, ma fate quello che la vostra bocca ha promesso».
Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your flocks, —and then that which hath gone forth from your mouth, ye shall do.
25 I figli di Gad e i figli di Ruben dissero a Mosè: «I tuoi servi faranno quello che il mio signore comanda.
Then spake the sons of Gad, and the sons of Reuben unto Moses, saying, —thy servants, will do, as, my lord, is giving command.
26 I nostri fanciulli, le nostre mogli, i nostri greggi e tutto il nostro bestiame rimarranno qui nelle città di Gàlaad;
Our little ones, our wives, our cattle, and all our beasts, shall remain there in the cities of Gilead;
27 ma i tuoi servi, tutti armati per la guerra, andranno a combattere davanti al Signore, come dice il mio signore».
and thy servants, will pass over every one armed for war, before Yahweh to battle, —as, my lord is speaking.
28 Allora Mosè diede per loro ordini al sacerdote Eleazaro, a Giosuè figlio di Nun e ai capifamiglia delle tribù degli Israeliti.
So Moses gave command concerning them, unto Eleazar the priest and unto Joshua son of Nun, and unto the heads of the fathers of the tribes, of the sons of Israel;
29 Mosè disse loro: «Se i figli di Gad e i figli di Ruben passeranno con voi il Giordano tutti armati per combattere davanti al Signore e se il paese sarà sottomesso davanti a voi, darete loro in proprietà il paese di Gàlaad.
and Moses said unto them—If the sons of Gad and the son of Reuben will pass with you over the Jordan, every one armed for the war before Yahweh, and the land be subdued before you, then shall ye give unto them the land of Gilead, for a possession.
30 Ma se non passano armati con voi, avranno la loro proprietà in mezzo a voi nel paese di Canaan».
But, if they will not pass over armed, with you, then shall they accept a possession in your midst, in the land of Canaan.
31 I figli di Gad e i figli di Ruben risposero: «Faremo come il Signore ha ordinato ai tuoi servi.
Then responded the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben, saying, —That which Yahweh had spoken unto thy servants, so, will we do.
32 Passeremo in armi davanti al Signore nel paese di Canaan, ma il possesso della nostra eredità resti per noi di qua dal Giordano».
We, will pass over armed, before Yahweh into the land of Canaan, —then shall be ours, the possession of our inheritance across the Jordan.
33 Mosè dunque diede ai figli di Gad e ai figli di Ruben e a metà della tribù di Manàsse, figlio di Giuseppe, il regno di Sicon, re degli Amorrei, e il regno di Og, re di Basan: il paese con le sue città comprese entro i confini, le città del paese che si stendeva intorno.
So then Moses gave unto them even unto the sons of Gad and unto the sons of Reuben and unto the half tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph the kingdom of sihon, king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og, the king of Bashan, the land by her cities with boundaries, even the cities of the land round about.
34 I figli di Gad ricostruirono Dibon, Atarot, Aroer,
And the sons of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, —and Aroer;
35 Aterot-Sofan, Iazer, Iogbea,
and Atroth-shophan and Jazer, and Jogbehah;
36 Bet-Nimra e Bet-Aran, fortezze, e fecero ovili per i greggi.
and Beth-nimrah, and Beth-haran, —fortified cities and folds for flocks.
37 I figli di Ruben ricostruirono Chesbon, Eleale, Kiriataim,
And the sons of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, —and Kiriathaim,
38 Nebo e Baal-Meon, i cui nomi furono mutati, e Sibma e diedero nomi alle città che avevano ricostruite.
and Nebo and Baal-meon—their names being changed, and Sibmah, —and they gave names to the cities which they built.
39 I figli di Machir, figlio di Manàsse, andarono nel paese di Gàlaad, lo presero e ne cacciarono gli Amorrei che vi abitavano.
Then went the sons of Machir son of Manasseh to Gilead, and captured it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were therein,
40 Mosè allora diede Gàlaad a Machir, figlio di Manàsse, che vi si stabilì.
So Moses gave Gilead unto Machir son of Manasseh, and he dwelt therein.
41 Anche Iair, figlio di Manàsse, andò e prese i loro villaggi e li chiamò villaggi di Iair.
And Jair, son of Manasseh, went, and captured their encampments, —and called them Havvoth-jair ["The encampments of Jair"].
42 Nobach andò e prese Kenat con le dipendenze e la chiamò Nobach.
And, Nobah, went, and captured Kenath, with the villages thereof, —and called it Nobah, after his own name.
