Jóhannes 21
1 Seinna birtist Jesús lærisveinunum á ný og þá við Galíleuvatnið. Það gerðist á þennan hátt:
After this Jesus again manifested himself to the disciples, by the Sea of Tiberias. He manifested himself in this way:
2 Nokkrir okkar voru þar, Símon Pétur, Tómas, „tvíburinn“, Natanael frá Kana í Galíleu, Jakob bróðir minn og ég, og tveir aðrir lærisveinar.
Simon Peter, Thomas (called Didymus), Nathanael (from Cana of Galilee), the sons of Zebedee, and two of Jesus' other disciples were together.
3 „Ég ætla út að fiska, “sagði Símon Pétur. „Við komum með þér, “sögðum við hinir. Við fórum en urðum ekki varir alla nóttina.
Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with yoʋ.” So they immediately went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
4 Við sólarupprás sáum við mann standa á ströndinni en við þekktum hann ekki.
When daybreak came, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not know it was Jesus.
5 Hann kallaði til okkar og sagði: „Hafið þið fengið nokkuð, drengir?“„Nei, “svöruðum við.
Jesus said to them, “Children, have you caught any fish to eat?” They answered him, “No.”
6 „Kastið þá netinu hægra megin við bátinn og þá munuð þið fáʼann!“kallaði hann. Þetta gerðum við og þá fylltist netið af fiski og var mergðin slík að við gátum ekki innbyrt það.
He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it and were unable to draw it in because of the large number of fish.
7 Þá sagði ég við Pétur: „Þetta er Drottinn!“Þá snaraði Pétur sér úr treyjunni, stökk út í og synti að landi.
Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had taken it off) and plunged into the sea.
8 Við hinir vorum kyrrir í bátnum og drógum netið, sem var alveg fullt, á eftir okkur þennan spöl, sem við áttum ófarinn í land.
But the other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, only about a hundred yards away.
9 Þegar þangað kom, sáum við að þar hafði verið kveiktur eldur. Einnig var þar steiktur fiskur og brauð.
When they had gone ashore, they saw a charcoal fire there with a fish lying on it, and bread.
10 „Komið hingað með nokkra af fiskunum, sem þið veidduð, “sagði Jesús.
Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.”
11 Símon Pétur fór þá og dró netið á land og taldi úr því 153 stóra fiska. En þótt fjöldinn væri slíkur, hafði netið ekki rifnað.
So Simon Peter went aboard and drew the net ashore, full of large fish, one hundred fifty-three of them. Although there were so many, the net had not torn.
12 „Komið, við skulum fá okkur að borða, “sagði Jesús. Enginn okkar þorði að spyrja hann, hvort hann væri Drottinn í raun og veru, við vorum reyndar vissir um að svo væri.
Then Jesus said to them, “Come eat breakfast.” Now none of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are yoʋ?” because they knew it was the Lord.
13 Og hann skipti á milli okkar fiskunum og brauðinu.
Then Jesus came, took the bread, and gave it to them. He did likewise with the fish.
14 Þetta var í þriðja sinn sem Jesús birtist okkur eftir upprisuna.
This was now the third time that Jesus had been revealed to his disciples after he had been raised from the dead.
15 Að morgunverðinum loknum, sagði Jesús við Símon Pétur: „Símon Jónasson, elskar þú mig meira en þeir hinir?“„Já, “svaraði Pétur, „þú veist að ég elska þig.“Þá sagði Jesús við hann: „Gættu lamba minna.“
When they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do yoʋ love me more than these?” Peter said to him, “Yes, Lord, yoʋ know that I care for yoʋ.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.”
16 Jesús endurtók spurninguna og sagði: „Símon Jónasson, elskar þú mig í raun og veru?“„Já, Drottinn, “svaraði Pétur, „þú veist að ég elska þig.“„Annastu sauði mína, “sagði Jesús.
Jesus said to him a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do yoʋ love me?” Peter said to him, “Yes, Lord, yoʋ know that I care for yoʋ.” Jesus said to him, “Tend my sheep.”
17 Og í þriðja sinn spurði Jesús hann: „Símon Jónasson, ert þú sannur vinur minn?“Pétur varð hryggur þegar hann heyrði Jesú spyrja þess sama í þriðja sinn og svaraði: „Drottinn, þú þekkir hjarta mitt og veist að ég elska þig.“„Gæt þú sauða minna, “svaraði Jesús.
Then Jesus said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do yoʋ care for me?” Peter was grieved that Jesus said to him the third time, “Do yoʋ care for me?” And he said to him, “Lord, yoʋ know everything; yoʋ know that I care for yoʋ.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.
18 Síðan bætti hann við og sagði: „Þegar þú varst ungur, gerðirðu það sem þig langaði til og fórst hvert sem þú vildir. En þegar þú eldist muntu verða að rétta út hendur þínar og aðrir munu taka þig með valdi og fara með þig þangað sem þú vilt ekki.“
Truly, truly, I say to yoʋ, when yoʋ were younger, yoʋ would dress yoʋrself and walk wherever yoʋ wanted to go; but when yoʋ grow old, yoʋ will stretch out yoʋr hands, and another will dress yoʋ and bring yoʋ where yoʋ do not want to go.”
19 Þetta sagði Jesús til að láta hann vita með hvaða hætti hann mundi deyja og vegsama Guð. Síðan sagði Jesús við hann: „Fylgdu mér!“
(He said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God.) After saying this, he said to Peter, “Follow me.”
20 Pétur sneri sér þá við og sá mig, lærisveininn sem Jesús elskaði, koma á eftir sér, en það var ég sem hafði hallað mér upp að Jesú við kvöldmáltíðarborðið og spurt: „Meistari, hver af okkur mun svíkja þig?“
Then Peter turned around and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them (the one who had leaned back on Jesus' chest at the supper and said, “Lord, who is it that is going to betray yoʋ?”)
21 Pétur spurði því Jesú: „Hvað með hann, Drottinn? Hvernig mun hann deyja?“
When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about him?”
22 Jesús svaraði: „Hvað varðar þig um það, ef ég vil að hann lifi þangað til ég kem aftur? En þú skalt fylgja mér.“
Jesus said to him, “If I wish for him to remain until I come, what is that to yoʋ? Yoʋ follow me!”
23 Þetta varð til þess að sá orðrómur barst út meðal bræðranna að þessi lærisveinn mundi ekki deyja, en það hafði Jesús ekki sagt. Hann sagði aðeins: „Hvað varðar þig um það, ef ég vil að hann lifi þangað til ég kem aftur?“
So the rumor spread among the brothers that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not tell him that he would not die; he only said, “If I wish for him to remain until I come, what is that to yoʋ?”
24 Ég er þessi lærisveinn! Ég sá þessa atburði gerast og hef ritað um þá hér. Við vitum að frásögn mín er sönn.
This is the disciple who is testifying about these things and who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true.
25 Ég býst við að heimurinn mundi varla rúma allar þær bækur sem til yrðu, ef skrifa ætti allt sem gerðist í lífi Jesú.
There are also many other things that Jesus did. If every one of them were to be written down, I suppose that not even the world itself would have room for the books that would be written. Amen.
