1 És lőn azokban a napokban, Augusztus császártól parancsolat adaték ki, hogy mind az egész föld összeirattassék.
Now it came to pass, in those days, that there went forth a decree from Caesar Augustus, for all the inhabited earth to be enrolled:
2 Ez az összeírás először akkor történt, mikor Siriában Czirénius volt a helytartó.
this enrolment, first was made while Cyrenius was governor of Syria:
3 Mennek vala azért mindenek, hogy beirattassanak, kiki a maga városába.
and all were journeying to be enrolled, each one unto his own city.
4 Felméne pedig József is Galileából, Názáret városából Júdeába, a Dávid városába, mely Bethlehemnek neveztetik, mivelhogy a Dávid házából és háznépe közül való volt;
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of a city Nazareth, into Judaea, into the city of David which is called Bethlehem; because he was of the house and family of David:
5 Hogy beirattassék Máriával, a ki néki jegyeztetett feleségül, és várandós vala.
to enrol himself with Mary who was betrothed to him, she being with child.
6 És lőn, hogy mikor ott valának, betelének az ő szülésének napjai.
And it came to pass, while they were there, that the days were fulfilled for her to give birth;
7 És szülé az ő elsőszülött fiát; és bepólyálá őt, és helyhezteté őt a jászolba, mivelhogy nem vala nékik helyök a vendégfogadó háznál.
and she gave birth to her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 Valának pedig pásztorok azon a vidéken, a kik künn a mezőn tanyáztak és vigyáztak éjszakán az ő nyájok mellett.
And there were, shepherds, in the same country, dwelling in the fields, and keeping the watches of the night over their flock.
9 És ímé az Úrnak angyala hozzájok jöve, és az Úrnak dicsősége körülvevé őket: és nagy félelemmel megfélemlének.
And, a messenger of the Lord, stood over them, and, a glory of the Lord, shone round about them; and they feared, a great fear.
10 És monda az angyal nékik: Ne féljetek, mert ímé hirdetek néktek nagy örömet, mely az egész népnek öröme lészen:
And the messenger said unto them—Be not afraid! For lo! I bring you good tidings of a great joy, the which shall be for all the people:
11 Mert született néktek ma a Megtartó, ki az Úr Krisztus, a Dávid városában.
That there hath been born unto you, this day, a saviour, —Who is Christ the Lord—in the city of David!
12 Ez pedig néktek a jele: találtok egy kis gyermeket bepólyálva feküdni a jászolban.
And, this, to you is, a sign: Ye shall find a babe, wrapped in swaddling clothes, and lying in a manger.
13 És hirtelenséggel jelenék az angyallal mennyei seregek sokasága, a kik az Istent dícsérik és ezt mondják vala:
And, suddenly, there came to be, with the messenger, the throng of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying—
14 Dicsőség a magasságos mennyekben az Istennek, és e földön békesség, és az emberekhez jó akarat!
Glory, in the highest, unto God! And, on earth, peace, among men of goodwill.
15 És lőn, hogy mikor elmentek az angyalok ő tőlök a mennybe, mondának a pásztoremberek egymásnak: Menjünk el mind Bethlehemig, és lássuk meg e dolgot, a melyet az Úr megjelentett nékünk.
And it came to pass, when the messengers had departed from them into heaven, that, the shepherds, began to say one to another—Let us go through forthwith as far as to Bethlehem, and see this thing which hath come to pass, which the Lord hath made known to us.
16 Elmenének azért sietséggel, és megtalálák Máriát és Józsefet, és a kis gyermeket, ki a jászolban fekszik vala.
And they came, with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger.
17 És ezt látván, elhirdeték, a mi nékik a gyermek felől mondatott vala.
Now, when they beheld, they made known concerning the thing which had been told them as to this child.
18 És mindenek, a kik hallák, elcsodálkozának azokon, a miket a pásztorok nékik mondottak.
And, all who heard, marvelled concerning the things which had been told by the shepherds unto them;
19 Mária pedig mind ez ígéket megtartja, és szívében forgatja vala.
but, Mary, was closely observing, all, these things, putting them together in her heart.
20 A pásztorok pedig visszatérének, dicsőítvén és dícsérvén az Istent mind azok felől, a miket hallottak és láttak, a mint nékik megmondatott.
And the shepherds returned, giving glory and singing praise unto God, over all things which they had heard and seen, according as it had been told unto them.
21 És mikor betölt a nyolcz nap, hogy a kis gyermeket körülmetéljék, nevezék az ő nevét Jézusnak, a mint őt az angyal nevezte, mielőtt fogantatott volna anyja méhében.
And, when eight days were fulfilled for circumcising him, then was his name called, Jesus, —which it was called by the messenger, before he was conceived in the womb.
22 Mikor pedig betöltek Mária tisztulásának napjai a Mózes törvénye szerint, felvivék őt Jeruzsálembe, hogy bemutassák az Úrnak.
And, when the days of their purification, according to the law of Moses, were fulfilled, they took him up into Jerusalem, to present [him] unto the Lord, —
23 (A mint megiratott az Úr törvényében, hogy: Minden elsőszülött fiú az Úrnak szenteltessék),
according as it is written in the law of the Lord—Every male that is a firstborn, Holy unto the Lord, shall be called,
24 És hogy áldozatot adjanak, a szerint a mint megmondatott az Úr törvényében: Egy pár gerliczét, vagy két galambfiat.
and to give a sacrifice, according to that which is said in the law of the Lord—A pair of turtle-doves, or two young pigeons.
25 És ímé vala Jeruzsálemben egy ember, a kinek neve Simeon volt, és ez az ember igaz és istenfélő vala, a ki várta az Izráel vigasztalását, és a Szent Lélek vala ő rajta.
And lo! there was, a man, in Jerusalem, whose name, was Symeon; and, this man, was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and Holy Spirit was upon him;
26 És kijelentetett néki a Szent Lélek által, hogy addig halált nem lát, a míg meg nem látja az Úrnak Krisztusát.
and it had been intimated to him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Christ of the Lord.
27 És ő a Lélek indításából a templomba méne, és mikor a gyermek Jézust bevivék szülői, hogy ő érette a törvény szokása szerint cselekedjenek,
And he came, in the Spirit, into the temple; and, when the parents brought in the child Jesus, that they might do according to that which was customary by the law concerning it,
28 Akkor ő karjaiba vevé őt, és áldá az Istent, és monda:
even he, welcomed it into his arms, and blessed God, and said—
29 Mostan bocsátod el, Uram, a te szolgádat, a te beszéded szerint, békességben:
Now, dost thou dismiss thy servant, O Sovereign, according to thy declaration—in peace;
30 Mert látták az én szemeim a te üdvösségedet,
Because mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
31 A melyet készítettél minden népeknek szeme láttára;
Which thou hast prepared in face of all the peoples:
32 Világosságul a pogányok megvilágosítására, és a te népednek, az Izráelnek dicsőségére.
A light for the unveiling of nations, and the glory of thy people Israel.
33 József pedig és az ő anyja csodálkozának azokon, a miket ő felőle mondottak.
And his father and mother were marvelling over the things which were being spoken concerning him.
34 És megáldá őket Simeon, és monda Máriának, az ő anyjának: Ímé ez vettetett sokaknak elestére és feltámadására az Izráelben; és jegyül, a kinek sokan ellene mondanak;
And Symeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother—Lo! this one, is being set for the falling and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign to be spoken against;
35 Sőt a te lelkedet is általhatja az éles tőr; hogy sok szív gondolatai nyilvánvalókká legyenek.
And, thou! through thy very soul, shall pass a sword, that, reasonings, may be revealed, out of many hearts.
36 És vala egy prófétaasszony, Anna, a Fánuel leánya, az Áser nemzetségéből (ez sok időt élt, miután az ő szűzességétől fogva hét esztendeig élt férjével,
And there was one Anna, a prophetess, daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher; —the same, advanced in many days; having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,
37 És ez mintegy nyolczvannégy esztendős özvegy vala), a ki nem távozék el a templomból, hanem bőjtölésekkel és imádkozásokkal szolgál vala éjjel és nappal.
and, she, had been a widow for as long as eighty-four years, —who left not the temple, with fastings and supplications, rendering divine service night and day; —
38 Ez is ugyanazon órában oda állván, hálát adott az Úrnak, és szóla ő felőle mindeneknek, a kik Jeruzsálemben a váltságot várták.
and, in that very hour, coming near, she began to give thanks unto God, and to speak concerning him unto all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.
39 És mikor mindent elvégeztek az Úr törvénye szerint, visszatérének Galileába, az ő városukba, Názáretbe.
And, when they had finished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, into their own city, Nazareth.
40 A kis gyermek pedig növekedék, és erősödék lélekben, teljesedve bölcsességgel; és az Istennek kegyelme vala ő rajta.
And, the child, went on growing, and waxing strong, becoming filled with wisdom; and, the favour of God, was upon it.
41 Az ő szülei pedig évenként feljártak Jeruzsálembe a húsvét ünnepére.
And his parents used to journey yearly into Jerusalem, at the feast of the passover.
42 És mikor tizenkét esztendős lett, fölmenének Jeruzsálembe az ünnep szokása szerint;
And, when he became twelve years, and they went up, according to the custom of the feast,
43 És mikor eltelének a napok, mikor ők visszatérének, a gyermek Jézus visszamarada Jeruzsálemben; és nem vevék észre sem József, sem az ő anyja;
and completed the days, and then were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, —and his parents noticed it not;
44 Hanem azt gondolván, hogy az úti társaságban van, egy napi járó földet menének, és keresék őt a rokonok és az ismerősök között;
but, supposing him to be in the company, went a day’s journey, and then began to seek for him among their kinsfolk and acquaintances,
45 És mikor nem találák őt, visszamenének Jeruzsálembe, hogy megkeressék.
and, not finding him, returned unto Jerusalem, seeking him.
46 És lőn, hogy harmadnapra megtalálták őt a templomban, a doktorok között ülve, a mint őket hallgatta, és kérdezgette őket.
And it came to pass, that, after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting amidst the teachers, —both hearkening unto them, and questioning them.
47 És mindnyájan, a kik őt hallgatták, elálmélkodának az ő értelmén és az ő feleletein.
Now all who heard him were beside themselves, because of his understanding and his answers.
48 És meglátván őt, elcsodálkozának, és monda néki az ő anyja: Fiam, miért cselekedted ezt velünk? Ímé atyád és én nagy bánattal kerestünk téged.
And, when they behold him, they were astounded, and his mother said unto him—Child! why, hast thou dealt with us, thus? Lo! thy father and I, in anguish, were seeking thee.
49 Ő pedig monda nékik: Mi dolog, hogy engem kerestetek? Avagy nem tudjátok-é, hogy nékem azokban kell foglalatosnak lennem, a melyek az én Atyámnak dolgai?
And he said unto them—Why was it that ye were seeking me? Perceived ye not, that, in the courts of my Father, I must needs be?
50 De ők nem érték e beszédet, a mit ő nékik szóla.
And, they, understood not the thing which he spake to them.
51 És aláméne velök, és méne Názáretbe; és engedelmes vala nékik. És az ő anyja szívében tartá mind ezeket a dolgokat.
And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was submitting himself unto them. And, his mother, was closely observing all these things in her heart.
52 Jézus pedig gyarapodék bölcsességben és testének állapotjában, és az Isten és emberek előtt való kedvességben.
And, Jesus, went on advancing in wisdom, and in stature, and in favour with God and men.
