Galater 5
1 So besteht nun in der Freiheit, die Christus für euch gewonnen hat, und lasset euch nicht wieder unter das Joch der Knechtschaft spannen.
Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
2 Siehe ich, Paulus, sage euch, daß, wenn ihr euch beschneiden lasset, Christus euch nichts nützen wird.
Listen, I, Paul, tell you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will profit you nothing.
3 Ich bezeuge abermals einem jeden, der sich beschneiden läßt, daß er verpflichtet ist, das ganze Gesetz zu halten.
Yes, I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
4 Ihr alle, die ihr durch das Gesetz gerecht werden wollt, seid von Christus abgefallen und der Gnade verlustig geworden.
You are alienated from Christ, you who desire to be justified by the law. You have fallen away from grace.
5 Denn wir harren vermöge des Geistes der Hoffnung auf Gerechtigkeit aus dem Glauben.
For we, through the Spirit, by faith wait for the hope of righteousness.
6 Denn in Jesus Christus gilt weder Beschneidung, noch Vorhaut, sondern der Glaube, der durch die Liebe tätig ist.
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision amounts to anything, nor uncircumcision, but faith working through love.
7 Ihr ward auf dem rechten Wege. Wer hat euch aufgehalten, daß ihr der Wahrheit nicht folgt?
You were running well. Who interfered with you that you should not obey the truth?
8 Diese Überredung kommt nicht von Dem, Der euch berufen hat.
This persuasion is not from him who calls you.
9 Ein wenig Sauerteig säuert schon den ganzen Teig.
A little yeast grows through the whole lump.
10 Ich versehe mich zu euch in dem Herrn, daß ihr nicht anders gesinnt sein werdet. Wer euch aber irre macht, der wird die Schuld tragen, er sei, wer er wolle.
I have confidence toward you in the Lord that you will think no other way. But he who troubles you will bear his judgment, whoever he is.
11 Ich aber, Brüder, wenn ich Beschneidung noch predige, warum werde ich noch verfolgt? Dann ist ja das Ärgernis des Kreuzes aufgehoben.
But I, brothers, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? Then the stumbling block of the cross has been removed.
12 Ach möchten sie sich noch dazu verschneiden lassen, die euch so in Unruhe bringen!
I wish that those who disturb you would cut themselves off.
13 Ihr seid ja zur Freiheit berufen, Brüder, nur nicht zur Freiheit, als zu einem Anlaß für das Fleisch, sondern daß einer durch Liebe dem anderen diene.
For you, brothers, were called for freedom. Only do not use your freedom for gain to the flesh, but through love be servants to one another.
14 Denn das ganze Gesetz ist in einem Gebot enthalten, in dem: Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben, wie dich selbst.
For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, in this: "You are to love your neighbor as yourself."
15 So ihr euch aber untereinander beißet und auffresset, so seht wohl zu, daß ihr nicht gar voneinander verschlungen werdet.
But if you bite and devour one another, be careful that you do not consume one another.
16 Ich meine aber: Wandelt im Geist, so werdet ihr die Begierde des Fleisches nicht vollbringen.
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh.
17 Denn das Fleisch gelüstet wider den Geist, und der Geist wider das Fleisch; dieselben streiten wider einander, daß ihr nicht tut, was ihr wollt.
For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire.
18 Wenn ihr euch aber von dem Geist führen lasset, so seid ihr nicht unter dem Gesetz.
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 Offenbar aber sind die Werke des Fleisches, als da sind: Ehebruch, Hurerei, Unzucht, Schwelgerei,
Now the works of the flesh are obvious, which are: sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness,
20 Götzendienst, Zauberei, Feindschaft, Hader, Eifersucht, Leidenschaft, Streitsucht, Zwietracht, Parteisucht, Mißgunst, Mordsucht,
idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies,
21 Zechen, Schwärmgelage und dergleichen, von denen ich euch vorhersage, und auch schon früher gesagt habe, daß die, welche solches tun, das Reich Gottes nicht ererben werden.
envyings, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
22 Die Frucht des Geistes aber ist Liebe, Freude, Friede, Langmut, Güte, Wohlwollen, Treue, Sanftmut, Enthaltsamkeit.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 Wider solche ist das Gesetz nicht.
gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
24 Die aber Christus angehören, haben das Fleisch gekreuzigt samt den Lüsten und Begierden.
Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts.
25 So wir aber im Geist leben, so lasset uns auch im Geiste wandeln.
If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.
26 Lasset uns nicht nach eitler Ehre trachten, einander nicht aufreizen, einander nicht neiden!
Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, and envying one another.
