Galater 2
1 Nach vierzehn Jahren zog ich abermals hinauf gen Jerusalem mit Barnabas, und nahm auch Titus mit.
Then after a period of fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus also with me.
2 Ich zog aber hinauf infolge einer Offenbarung und legte ihnen das Evangelium vor, das ich unter den Heiden verkündige, insbesondere aber den Angesehenen, daß ich nicht etwa vergeblich liefe oder gelaufen wäre.
I went up by revelation, and I explained to them the Good News which I preach among those who are not Jewish, but privately before those who were respected, for fear that I might be running, or had run, in vain.
3 Aber nicht einmal Titus, der mit mir war, obgleich er Grieche war, ward gezwungen, sich beschneiden zu lassen.
But not even Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised.
4 Es waren aber falsche Brüder eingeschlichen und hatten sich eingedrängt, um der Freiheit aufzulauern, die wir in Jesus Christus haben, auf daß sie uns wieder unter das Joch brächten.
This was because of the false brothers secretly brought in, who stole in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage;
5 Diesen gaben wir aber keinen Augenblick nach, daß wir uns unterwürfen, auf daß die Wahrheit des Evangeliums bei euch verbliebe.
to whom we gave no place in the way of subjection, not for an hour, that the truth of the Good News might continue with you.
6 Anlangend diejenigen, die obenan standen, - welcherlei sie früher gewesen, geht mich nicht an, Gott sieht die Person des Menschen nicht an - haben mir diese Oberen keine andere Weisung gegeben.
But from those who were reputed to be important (whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God shows no favoritism between people)—they, I say, who were respected imparted nothing to me,
7 Sondern im Gegenteil, da sie sahen, daß mir das Evangelium an die Vorhaut, so wie Petrus an die Beschneidung anvertraut war;
but to the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted with the Good News for the uncircumcision, even as Peter with the Good News for the circumcision
8 Wie denn, Der mit Petrus kräftig gewesen ist für das Apostelamt unter der Beschneidung, auch mit mir kräftig war unter den Heiden;
(for he who appointed Peter to be an apostle of the circumcision appointed me also to the non-Jews);
9 Da erkannten die Gnade, die mir zuteil geworden, Jakobus und Kephas und Johannes, die als die Säulen angesehen waren, reichten mir und Barnabas die Rechte zur Gemeinschaft, daß wir für die Heiden und sie für die Beschneidung predigten;
and when they perceived the grace that was given to me, James and Cephas and John, they who were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, that we should go to the non-Jews, and they to the circumcised.
10 Nur sollten wir der Armen gedenken, was ich auch fleißig getan habe.
They only asked us to remember the poor—which very thing I was also zealous to do.
11 Als aber Kephas nach Antiochien kam, widersprach ich ihm ins Angesicht, da er als verurteilt erschien.
But when Cephas came to Antioch, I resisted him to his face, because he stood condemned.
12 Denn ehe etliche von Jakobus kamen, aß er mit den Heiden; da sie aber kamen, zog er sich zurück und sonderte sich ab, aus Furcht vor denen in der Beschneidung.
For before some people came from James, he ate with those who were not Jewish. But when they came, he drew back and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision.
13 Und auch die übrigen Juden heuchelten mit ihm, also, daß auch Barnabas mit zur Heuchelei verleitet wurde.
And the rest of the Jewish believers joined him in his hypocrisy; so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy.
14 Als ich aber sah, daß sie nicht auf geradem Wege nach der Wahrheit des Evangeliums wandelten, sprach ich zu Kephas, in aller Gegenwart: Wenn du, der du ein Jude bist, heidnisch, nicht jüdisch lebst, wie willst du die Heiden zwingen, jüdisch zu leben?
But when I saw that they did not walk uprightly according to the truth of the Good News, I said to Cephas before them all, "If you, being a Jew, live as the non-Jews do, and not as the Jews do, how can you compel the non-Jews to live as the Jews do?
15 Wiewohl wir von Natur Juden und nicht von Heiden her Sünder sind,
"We, being Jews by birth, and not non-Jewish sinners,
16 Doch, weil wir wissen, daß der Mensch nicht durch die Werke des Gesetzes gerecht wird, sondern durch den Glauben an Jesus Christus, haben auch wir an Jesus Christus geglaubt, auf daß wir durch den Glauben an Christus gerechtfertigt würden und nicht durch des Gesetzes Werke; denn durch des Gesetzes Werke wird kein Fleisch gerechtfertigt werden.
yet knowing that no one is justified by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the law, because no flesh will be justified by the works of the law.
17 Sollten wir aber, die wir in Christus suchen gerechtfertigt zu werden, selbst auch als Sünder erfunden werden? Ist darum Christus der Sünde Diener? Das sei ferne!
But if, while we sought to be justified in Christ, we ourselves also were found sinners, is Christ a servant of sin? Certainly not.
18 Denn wenn ich das, was ich zerstört hatte, wieder aufbaue, so erweise ich mich selbst als Übertreter.
For if I build up again those things which I destroyed, I prove myself a law-breaker.
19 Denn ich bin durch das Gesetz dem Gesetz gestorben, auf daß ich Gott lebete; ich bin mit Christus gekreuzigt.
For I, through the law, died to the law, that I might live to God.
20 Ich lebe, aber nicht mehr ich, wohl aber lebt Christus in mir. Was ich aber jetzt lebe im Fleische, lebe ich im Glauben an den Sohn Gottes, Der mich geliebt und Sich für mich hingegeben hat.
I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I that live, but Christ living in me. That life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself up for me.
21 Nicht verwerfe ich die Gnade Gottes, denn wenn durch das Gesetz Gerechtigkeit kommt, so ist Christus ohne Grund gestorben.
I do not make void the grace of God. For if righteousness is through the law, then Christ died for nothing."
