Job 28
1 Denn das Silber hat seinen Fundort und das Gold seinen Ort, wo man es läutert.
Though there is, for silver, a vein, and a place for the gold they refine;
2 Eisen wird aus der Erde gegraben und Kupfer schmelzt man aus Gestein.
Iron, out of the ore, is taken, and, stone, poureth out copper;
3 Man macht der Finsternis ein Ende und forscht alles vollkommen aus, die Steine, die in Finsternis und Todesschatten liegen.
An end, hath one set to the darkness, and, into every extremity, is, he, making search, for the stone of darkness and death-shade;
4 Einen Schacht bricht man auf, wo kein Wandersmann durchgeht; auf unbetretenen Pfaden lassen sie sich hinab und schweben ferne von den Menschen.
He hath sunken a shaft, away from the inhabitants; Places forsaken by the foot, they hang down, away from men, sway to and fro;
5 Aus der Erde wächst Brot hervor, und unter ihr ist's wie vom Feuer durchwühlt.
As for the earth, out of it, cometh forth bread, and, under it, is upturned, as it were fire;
6 In ihren Steinen wird Saphir gefunden und Gold in ihren Schollen.
The place of sapphires, are the stones thereof, and it hath, nuggets of gold: —
7 Ein Pfad [ist's], den kein Raubvogel kennt, und den auch des Habichts Auge nicht erspäht,
A path, the vulture hath not discerned, nor hath the eye of the hawk scanned it;
8 den auch kein Raubtier betritt, darauf der Löwe nicht schreitet.
Ravenous beasts have not made a track thereof, neither hath the lion marched thereon:
9 Der Mensch legt seine Hand an den harten Felsen und durchwühlt die Gründe der Berge.
Upon the flint, hath he thrust forth his hand, He hath turned up mountains by the roots;
10 Er treibt Stollen durch die Felsen, und sein Auge ersieht alles, was köstlich ist.
Among the rocks, hath he cut open streams, and, every precious thing, hath his eye seen:
11 Damit sie nicht tränen, verstopft er die Wasserrinnen; das Verborgene bringt er ans Licht.
From trickling, he restraineth, rivers, and, some hidden thing, is he bringing out to light.
12 Aber wo wird die Weisheit gefunden, und welches ist der Ort des Verstandes?
Yet where can, Wisdom, be found? And where is the place of understanding?
13 Der Mensch kennt den Weg zu ihr nicht, im Lande der Lebendigen wird sie nicht gefunden.
Mortal knoweth not the way thereof, neither can it be found in the land of the living;
14 Die Tiefe spricht: «Sie ist nicht in mir», und das Meer: «Sie ist nicht bei mir.»
The resounding deep, hath said, It is not in me! And, the sea, hath said, It is not with me!
15 Sie wird mit keinem Geld bezahlt und nicht mit Silber aufgewogen.
Pure gold cannot be given in its stead, neither can silver he weighed as the value thereof;
16 Um Gold von Ophir ist sie nicht zu haben, auch nicht um köstlichen Schohamstein und Saphir.
It cannot be put into the scales against the gold of Ophir, with costly onyx, or sapphire;
17 Gold und Glas kommt ihr nicht gleich, noch wird sie um goldenes Gerät eingetauscht.
Neither gold nor crystal can compare with it, nor can, the exchange thereof, be a vessel of pure gold,
18 Korallen und Kristall sind nichts gegen sie, und der Besitz der Weisheit geht über Perlen.
Coral or crystal, cannot be mentioned, Yea, a possession, is wisdom, above red coral;
19 Der Topas aus Äthiopien ist ihr nicht zu vergleichen, mit reinem Golde wird sie nicht aufgewogen.
The topaz of Ethiopia cannot compare with it, Against purest gold, can it not be weighed.
20 Woher kommt denn die Weisheit, und welches ist der Ort des Verstandes?
Whence then cometh, wisdom? And where is the place of understanding?
21 Sie ist verborgen vor den Augen aller Lebendigen und vor den Vögeln des Himmels versteckt.
Seeing it hath been hid from the eyes of every living thing, and, from the bird of the heavens, hath it been concealed?
22 Der Abgrund und der Tod sprechen: Wir haben mit unsern Ohren von ihr gehört.
Destruction and death, have said, With our ears, have we heard the report thereof!
23 Gott weiß ihren Weg, und er kennt ihren Ort.
GOD, understandeth the way thereof, and, he, discerneth the place thereof;
24 Denn er schaut bis zu den Enden der Erde und sieht alles, was unter dem Himmel ist.
For, he, unto the ends of the earth, directeth his look, under all the heavens, he seeth;
25 Als er dem Winde sein Gewicht gab und den Wassern ihr Maß,
Making, for the wind, a weight, and, the waters, he proved by measure,
26 als er dem Regen sein Ziel setzte und dem Wetterstrahl seinen Weg:
When he made, for the rain, a decree, and a way for the lightning of thunders,
27 da hat er sie gesehen und durchmustert, sie bereitet und erforscht
Then, saw he it, and declared it, He settled it, yea also he searched it out;
28 und hat zum Menschen gesagt: Siehe, die Furcht des Herrn, das ist Weisheit, und vom Bösen weichen, das ist Verstand!
And said to the son of earth, Lo! the reverence of the Lord, that, is wisdom, and, to avoid evil, is understanding.
