Ester 9

1 Im zwölften Monden, das ist der Mond Adar, am dreizehnten Tage, den des Königs Wort und Gebot bestimmt hatte, daß man's tun sollte, eben desselben Tages, da die Feinde der Juden hofften, sie zu überwältigen, wandte sich's, daß die Juden ihre Feinde überwältigen sollten.

Now in the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the month, when the king's commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, on the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to conquer them, (but it was turned out the opposite happened, that the Jews conquered those who hated them),

2 Da versammelten sich die Juden in ihren Städten, in allen Landen des Königs Ahasveros, daß sie die Hand legten an die, so ihnen übel wollten. Und niemand konnte ihnen widerstehen; denn Furcht war über alle Völker kommen.

the Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the King Achashyerosh, to lay hands on those who wanted to harm them. No one could withstand them, because the fear of them had fallen on all the people.

3 Auch alle Obersten in Landen und Fürsten und Landpfleger und Amtleute des Königs erhuben die Juden; denn die Furcht Mardachais kam über sie.

And all the officials of the provinces, the satraps, the governors, and those who did the king's business helped the Jews, because the fear of Mordecai had fallen on them.

4 Denn Mardachai war groß im Hause des Königs, und sein Gerücht erscholl in allen Ländern, wie er zunähme und groß würde.

For Mordecai was great in the king's house, and his fame went out throughout all the provinces; for the man Mordecai grew greater and greater.

5 Also schlugen die Juden an allen ihren Feinden mit der Schwertschlacht und würgeten und brachten um und taten nach ihrem Willen an denen, die ihnen feind waren.

The Jews struck all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and with slaughter and destruction, and did what they wanted to those who hated them.

6 Und zu Schloß Susan erwürgeten die Juden und brachten um fünfhundert Mann.

In the citadel of Shushan, the Jews killed and destroyed five hundred men.

7 Dazu erwürgeten sie Parsandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha,

They killed Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha,

8 Poratha, Adalja, Aridatha,

Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha,

9 Parmastha, Arisai, Aridai, Vajesatha,

Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vaizatha,

10 die zehn Söhne Hamans, des Sohns Medathas, des Judenfeindes; aber an seine Güter legten sie ihre Hände nicht.

the ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Jew's enemy, but they did not lay their hand on the plunder.

11 Zu derselbigen Zeit kam die Zahl der Erwürgten gen Schloß Susan vor den König.

On that day, the number of those who were slain in the citadel of Shushan was brought before the king.

12 Und der König sprach zu der Königin Esther: Die Juden haben zu Schloß Susan fünfhundert Mann erwürget und umgebracht und die zehn Söhne Hamans; was werden sie tun in den andern Ländern des Königs? Was bittest du, daß man dir gebe? und was forderst du mehr, daß man tue?

The king said to Esther the queen, "The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in the citadel of Shushan, including the ten sons of Haman; what then have they done in the rest of the king's provinces. Now what is your petition? It shall be granted you. What is your further request? It shall be done."

13 Esther sprach: Gefällt es dem Könige, so lasse er auch morgen die Juden zu Susan tun nach dem heutigen Gebot, daß sie die zehn Söhne Hamans an den Baum hängen.

Then Esther said, "If it pleases the king, let it be granted to the Jews who are in Shushan to do tomorrow also according to this day's decree, and let Haman's ten sons be hanged on the gallows."

14 Und der König hieß also tun. Und das Gebot ward zu Susan angeschlagen, und die zehn Söhne Hamans wurden gehänget.

The king commanded this to be done. A decree was given out in Shushan; and they hanged Haman's ten sons.

15 Und die Juden versammelten sich zu Susan am vierzehnten Tage des Monden Adar und erwürgeten zu Susan dreihundert Mann; aber an ihre Güter legten sie ihre Hände nicht.

The Jews who were in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and killed three hundred men in Shushan; but they did not lay their hand on the spoil.

16 Aber die andern Juden in den Ländern des Königs kamen zusammen und stunden für ihr Leben, daß sie Ruhe schaffeten vor ihren Feinden; und erwürgeten ihrer Feinde fünfundsiebenzigtausend; aber an ihre Güter legten sie ihre Hände nicht.

The other Jews who were in the king's provinces gathered themselves together, defended their lives, had rest from their enemies, and killed seventy-five thousand of those who hated them; but they did not lay their hand on the plunder.

17 Das geschah am dreizehnten Tage des Monden Adar, und ruheten am vierzehnten Tage desselben Monden; den machte man zum Tage des Wohllebens und Freuden.

This was done on the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of that month they rested and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

18 Aber die Juden zu Susan waren zusammenkommen, beide am dreizehnten und vierzehnten Tage, und ruheten am fünfzehnten Tage; und den Tag machte man zum Tage des Wohllebens und Freuden.

But the Jews who were in Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth and on the fourteenth days of the month; and on the fifteenth day of that month, they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

19 Darum machten die Juden, die auf den Dörfern und Flecken wohneten, den vierzehnten Tag des Monden Adar zum Tage des Wohllebens und Freuden, und sandte einer dem andern Geschenke.

Therefore the Jews of the villages, who live in the unwalled towns, make the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of gladness and feasting, a good day, and a day of sending presents of food to one another.

20 Und Mardachai beschrieb diese Geschichte und sandte die Briefe zu allen Juden, die in allen Ländern des Königs Ahasveros waren, beide nahen und fernen,

Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters to all the Jews who were in all the provinces of the king Achashyerosh, both near and far,

21 daß sie annähmen und hielten den vierzehnten und fünfzehnten Tag des Monden Adar jährlich,

to enjoin them that they should keep the fourteenth and fifteenth days of the month Adar yearly,

22 nach den Tagen, darinnen die Juden zur Ruhe kommen waren von ihren Feinden, und nach dem Monden, darinnen ihre Schmerzen in Freude und ihr Leid in gute Tage verkehret war, daß sie dieselben halten sollten für Tage des Wohllebens und Freuden, und einer dem andern Geschenke schicken und den Armen mitteilen.

as the days in which the Jews had rest from their enemies, and the month which was turned to them from sorrow to gladness, and from mourning into a good day; that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, and of sending presents of food to one another, and gifts to the needy.

23 Und die Juden nahmen's an, das sie angefangen hatten zu tun, und das Mardachai zu ihnen schrieb:

The Jews accepted the custom that they had begun, as Mordecai had written to them;

24 wie Haman, der Sohn Medathas, der Agagiter, aller Juden Feind, gedacht hatte, alle Juden umzubringen, und das Los werfen lassen, sie zu schrecken und umzubringen;

because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had plotted against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast "Pur," that is the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them;

25 und wie Esther zum Könige gegangen war und geredet, daß durch Briefe seine bösen Anschläge, die er wider die Juden gedacht, auf seinen Kopf gekehret würden; und wie man ihn und seine Söhne an den Baum gehänget hätte.

but when this became known to the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he had devised against the Jews, should return on his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

26 Daher sie diese Tage Purim nannten nach dem Namen des Loses, nach allen Worten dieses Briefes, und was sie selbst gesehen hatten, und was an sie gelanget war.

Therefore they called these days "Purim," from the word "Pur." Therefore because of all the words of this letter, and of that which they had seen concerning this matter, and that which had come to them,

27 Und die Juden richteten es auf und nahmen es auf sich und auf ihren Samen und auf alle, die sich zu ihnen taten, daß sie nicht übergehen wollten, zu halten diese zween Tage jährlich, wie die beschrieben und bestimmt wurden,

the Jews established, and imposed on themselves, and on their descendants, and on all those who joined themselves to them, so that it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to what was written, and according to its appointed time, every year;

28 daß diese Tage nicht zu vergessen, sondern zu halten seien bei Kindeskindern, bei allen Geschlechtern in allen Ländern und Städten. Es sind die Tage Purim, welche nicht sollen übergangen werden unter den Juden, und ihr Gedächtnis nicht umkommen bei ihrem Samen.

and that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor the memory of them perish among their descendants.

29 Und die Königin Esther, die Tochter Abihails, und Mardachai, der Jude, schrieben mit ganzer Gewalt, zu bestätigen diesen andern Brief von Purim.

Then Esther the queen, the daughter of Abihail, and Mordecai the Jew, wrote with all authority to confirm this second letter of Purim.

30 Und sandte die Briefe zu allen Juden in den hundertundsiebenundzwanzig Ländern des Königreichs Ahasveros mit freundlichen und treuen Worten:

He sent letters to all the Jews, to the hundred twenty-seven provinces of the kingdom of Achashyerosh, with words of peace and truth,

31 daß sie bestätigten diese Tage Purim auf ihre bestimmte Zeit, wie Mardachai, der Jude, über sie bestätiget hatte, und die Königin Esther; wie sie auf ihre Seele und auf ihren Samen bestätiget hatten die Geschichte der Fasten und ihres Schreiens.

to confirm these days of Purim in their appointed times, as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had decreed, and as they had imposed upon themselves and their descendants, in the matter of the fastings and their cry.

32 Und Esther befahl, die Geschichte dieser Purim zu bestätigen und in ein Buch zu schreiben.

The commandment of Esther confirmed these matters of Purim; and it was written in the book.
