1 Timotheus 1

1 Paulus, Apostel Christus Jesus' gemäß Auftrag Gottes unseres Heilandes und Christus Jesus' unserer Hoffnung

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the appointment of God our Savior, and the Lord Jesus Christ our hope,

2 an den Timotheus, sein echtes Kind im Glauben. Gnade und Barmherzigkeit, Friede von Gott dem Vater und Christus Jesus unserem Herrn.

to Timothy, my true son in the faith; grace, mercy, peace from God our Father, and Christ Jesus our Lord.

3 Wie ich dich aufgefordert habe in Ephesus zu bleiben, als ich nach Makedonia gieng, damit du gewissen Leuten auflegest, nicht abweichend zu lehren,

As, on going into Macedonia, I besought you to remain in Ephesus, that you might charge some that they teach no other thing,

4 und sich nicht zu halten an Fabeln und endlose Geschlechtsregister, die mehr Grübeleien schaffen als Dienstwaltung Gottes im Glauben;

nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which produce disputes rather than godly edification, which is in faith;

5 das Ziel des Gebotes aber ist Liebe aus reinem Herzen und gutem Gewissen und unverfälschtem Glauben;

(Now the end of the commandment is love out of a pure heart, and out of a good conscience, and out of faith unfeigned:

6 davon sind einige abgeirrt und auf eitles Gerede verfallen,

which things some not having aimed at, have turned aside to idle disputation,

7 wollten Gesetzeslehrer sein, und verstehen nicht was sie sagen oder worüber sie Behauptungen aufstellen.

desiring to be teachers of law, though understanding neither what they say nor of what they boldly affirm.

8 Wir wissen aber, daß das Gesetz gut ist, wenn man es gesetzmäßig gebraucht,

But we know that the law is good, if any one use it lawfully;

9 in dem Bewußtsein, daß es nicht da ist für einen Gerechten, wohl aber für Frevler und Unbotmäßige, Gottlose und Sünder, denen nichts heilig, alles gemein ist, die sich an Vater und Mutter vergreifen, Totschläger,

knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and for scorners, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for man-slayers,

10 Unzüchtige, Männerschänder, Seelenverkäufer, Lügner, Meineidige und was sonst noch gegen die gesunde Lehre ist,

for lewd persons, for sodomites, for men-stealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and for whatever other thing is opposed to sound teaching,

11 nach dem Evangelium der Herrlichkeit des seligen Gottes mit dem ich beauftragt ward.

according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which has been intrusted to me.

12 Ich danke Christus Jesus unserem Herrn der mir Kraft gegeben hat, daß er mich für treu achtete, indem er mich zum Dienst bestellte,

And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me power, because he counted me faithful, and put me into the ministry;

13 der ich zuvor war ein Lästerer, Verfolger und Bedrücker. Aber ich habe Erbarmen gefunden, weil ich es unwissend gethan im Unglauben.

me, I say, who before was a reviler and a persecutor and an overbearing man. But I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief:

14 Die Gnade unseres Herrn ist um so mächtiger geworden mit dem Glauben und der Liebe in Christus Jesus.

and the grace of our Lord was very abundant with faith, and love which is in Christ Jesus.

15 Bewährt ist das Wort und aller Annahme wert, daß Christus Jesus gekommen ist in die Welt, Sünder zu retten, darunter ich der erste bin.

Assuredly true and worthy of all acceptation is this saying: that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.

16 Aber darum ist mir Erbarmen widerfahren, auf daß an mir zuerst zeige Jesus Christus seine ganze Langmut, zum Vorbild für die, welche an ihn glauben würden zum ewigen Leben. (aiōnios g166)

But for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all long-suffering, for an example to those who might afterward believe on him in order to life eternal. (aiōnios g166)

17 Dem König der Ewigkeit aber, dem unvergänglichen, unsichtbaren, einigen Gott Ehre und Preis in alle Ewigkeit. Amen. (aiōn g165)

Now to the King of the ages, the incorruptible, invisible, only wise God, be honor and glory from age to age. Amen.) (aiōn g165)

18 Diese Verkündigung lege ich dir auf, mein Kind Timotheus, gemäß den Weissagungen, die auf dich hinwiesen, auf daß du durch sie den guten Kampf kämpfest,

This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, in accordance with the preceding prophecies concerning you, that by them you may war the good warfare,

19 haltend am Glauben und reinem Gewissen, welches etliche von sich gestoßen und so im Glauben Schiffbruch gelitten haben;

holding faith and a good conscience, which some having thrust from them, as it respects faith have made shipwreck; of whom are Hymenæus and Alexander,

20 unter denen ist Hymenäus und Alexander, die ich dem Satan übergeben habe, damit sie gezogen werden nicht zu lästern.

whom I have delivered to Satan, that they may learn not to revile.
