Psalm 115

1 (Der Chor der Tempelsänger: ) / Nicht uns, Jahwe, nicht uns, / Nein, deinem Namen schaff Ehre, / Ob deiner Huld, ob deiner Treu!

Not to us, Lord, not to us, but to you all glory should be given, because of your trustworthy love and faithfulness.

2 Warum sollen die Heiden sagen: / "Wo ist denn nun ihr Gott?"

Why should the heathen nations ask, “Where is your God?”

3 Und doch: Unser Gott, der im Himmel thront, / Hat stets hinausgeführt, woran er Gefallen fand.

Our God is in heaven, and he does whatever he wants.

4 Aber ihre Götzen sind Silber und Gold, / Das Gebilde von Menschenhand.

Their idols are just things of silver and gold made by human hands.

5 Sie haben einen Mund und können nicht reden. / Sie haben Augen und sehen doch nicht.

They have mouths, but can't speak. They have eyes, but can't see.

6 Ohren haben sie und hören nicht, / Sie haben eine Nase und riechen nicht.

They have ears, but can't hear. They have noses, but can't smell.

7 Ihre Hände — damit tasten sie nicht, / Ihre Füße — damit gehen sie nicht; / Nicht können sie reden mit ihrer Kehle.

They have hands, but can't feel. They have feet, but can't walk. No sound comes from their throats.

8 Ihnen gleich sind, die sie bilden — / Jeder, der ihnen vertraut.

Those who make idols become just like them, and so does everyone who trusts in them.

9 (Erster Priesterchor: ) / Israel, trau auf Jahwe! / (Zweiter Priesterchor: ) / Ihr Helfer und Schild ist er.

Israel, trust in the Lord! He is the one who helps you and protects you.

10 (Erster Priesterchor: ) / Haus Aarons, trau auf Jahwe! / (Zweiter Priesterchor: ) / Ihr Helfer und Schild ist er.

Descendants of Aaron, trust in the Lord! He is the one who helps you and protects you.

11 (Beide Priesterchöre: ) / Die ihr Jahwe fürchtet, traut auch ihr Jahwe! / (Der Chor der Tempelsänger: ) / Ihr Helfer und Schild ist er.

Those who honor the Lord, trust in the Lord! He is the one who helps you and protects you.

12 (Der opfernde Priester am Altar: ) / Jahwe hat unser gedacht: er wird auch segnen. / Er wird segnen Israels Haus, / Er wird segnen Aarons Haus.

The Lord keeps us in mind and will be good to us. He will bless Israel, he will bless the descendants of Aaron.

13 Er wird segnen, die Jahwe fürchten / Beide: Kleine und Große.

The Lord will bless all those who worship him, whoever they are.

14 Jahwe wolle euch mehren, / Euch selbst und eure Kinder!

May the Lord be good to you, you and your children.

15 Gesegnet seid ihr von Jahwe, / Der Himmel und Erde geschaffen!

May you be blessed by the Lord who made heaven and earth.

16 (Erster Priesterchor: ) / Der Himmel ist Jahwes Himmel, / Die Erde aber hat er den Menschenkindern gegeben.

The heavens belong to the Lord, but he has given the earth to humankind.

17 (Zweiter Priesterchor: ) / Die Toten, sie werden Jah nicht loben, / Sie alle nicht, die in die Stille hinabgestiegen.

The dead do not praise the Lord, those who have gone down into the silence of the grave.

18 (Alle Chöre zusammen: ) / Wir aber, wir preisen Jah / Von nun an bis in Ewigkeit. / Lobt Jah!

But we the living will always praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!
