Matthieu 8
1 Or, lorsqu’il fut descendu de la montagne, une grande foule le suivit:
When Jesus came down from the mountain, large crowds followed him.
2 Et voilà qu’un lépreux venant à lui l’adorait, disant: Seigneur, si vous voulez, vous pouvez me guérir.
And behold, a leper came and bowed down before him, saying, “Lord, if yoʋ are willing, yoʋ can make me clean.”
3 Et Jésus étendant la main le toucha, disant: Je le veux, sois guéri. Et à l’instant sa lèpre fut guérie.
So Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be made clean.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
4 Alors Jésus lui dit: Prends garde, ne le dis à personne, mais va, montre-toi au prêtre, et offre le don prescrit par Moïse, en témoignage pour eux.
Then Jesus said to him, “Be sure not to tell anyone about this, but go show yoʋrself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”
5 Et comme il était entré dans Capharnaüm, un centurion s’approcha de lui, le priant,
When Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him and pleaded with him,
6 Et disant: Seigneur, mon serviteur gît paralytique dans ma maison, et il souffre violemment.
saying, “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.”
7 Jésus lui dit: J’irai, et le guérirai.
Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.”
8 Mais le centurion répondant: Seigneur, dit-il, je ne suis pas digne que vous entriez sous mon toit; mais dites seulement une parole et mon serviteur sera guéri.
But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have yoʋ enter under my roof, but just say the word, and my servant will be healed.
9 Car moi qui suis un homme soumis à la puissance d’un autre et qui ai sous moi des soldats, je dis à l’un: Va, et il va; et à un autre: Viens, et il vient, et à mon serviteur: Fais cela, et il le fait.
For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
10 Or Jésus, l’entendant, fut dans l’admiration, et il dit à ceux qui le suivaient: En vérité, je vous le dis; je n’ai pas trouvé une si grande foi dans Israël.
When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those who were following him, “Truly I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.
11 Aussi je vous dis que beaucoup viendront de l’Orient et de l’Occident et auront place dans le royaume des cieux avec Abraham, Isaac et Jacob;
I tell you that many will come from east and west, and recline with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the banquet table in the kingdom of heaven,
12 Tandis que les enfants du royaume seront jetés dans les ténèbres extérieures; là sera le pleur et le grincement de dents.
but the sons of the kingdom will be cast into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
13 Alors Jésus dit au centurion: Va, et que selon que tu as cru il te soit fait. Et son serviteur fut guéri à cette heure même.
Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go; it will be done for you just as yoʋ have believed.” And his servant was healed in that hour.
14 Jésus étant venu ensuite dans la maison de Pierre vit sa belle-mère gisante et ayant la fièvre.
When Jesus came into Peter's house, he saw Peter's mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever.
15 Il lui toucha la main, et la fièvre la quitta; aussitôt elle se leva, et elle les servait.
So he touched her hand, and the fever left her. Then she rose and began to serve him.
16 Le soir étant venu, on lui présenta beaucoup de démoniaques, et par sa parole il chassait les malins esprits, et il guérit tous les malades:
When evening came, many who were possessed by demons were brought to him, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick.
17 Afin que s’accomplît la parole du prophète Isaïe, disant: Lui-même a pris nos infirmités et il s’est chargé de nos maladies.
This was to fulfill what had been spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our infirmities and bore our diseases.”
18 Or Jésus voyant une grande foule autour de lui ordonna de passer à l’autre côté de la mer.
When Jesus saw the large crowds around him, he gave orders to depart to the other side of the sea.
19 Alors un scribe s’approchant, lui dit: Maître, je vous suivrai partout où vous irez.
Then a scribe came up and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow yoʋ wherever yoʋ go.”
20 Et Jésus lui dit: Les renards ont des tanières, et les oiseaux du ciel des nids; mais le Fils de l’homme n’a pas où reposer sa tête.
Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”
21 Un autre de ses disciples lui dit: Seigneur, permettez-moi racontèrent d’aller d’abord et d’ensevelir mon père.
Then another of his disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”
22 Mais Jésus lui dit: Suis-moi et laisse les morts ensevelir leurs morts.
But Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”
23 Étant ensuite monté dans la barque, ses disciples le suivirent
Then he got into the boat, and his disciples followed him.
24 Et voilà qu’une grande tempête se leva sur la mer; de sorte que la barque était couverte par les vagues; lui-même cependant dormait.
And behold, a great storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves. But Jesus was asleep.
25 C’est pourquoi ses disciples s’approchèrent de lui et l’éveillèrent, disant: Seigneur, sauvez-nous, nous périssons.
So the disciples came to him and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”
26 Jésus leur dit: Pourquoi craignez-vous, hommes de peu de foi? Alors, se levant, il commanda aux vents et à la mer, et il se fit un grand calme.
But he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
27 Or, saisis d’admiration, ces hommes disaient: Quel est celui-ci, que les vents et la mer lui obéissent?
And the men were amazed, saying, “What kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?”
28 Lorsqu’il fut venu de l’autre côté de la mer, dans le pays des Géraséniens, coururent au-devant de lui deux démoniaques, sortant des sépulcres extrêmement furieux, au point que personne n’osait passer par ce chemin;
When Jesus came to the other side of the sea, to the region of the Gergesenes, he was met by two demon-possessed men who had come out of the tombs. They were so fierce that no one could pass by that way.
29 Et ils se mirent à crier, disant: Qu’importe à nous et à vous, Jésus fils de Dieu? Êtes-vous venu ici avant le temps pour nous tourmenter?
And behold, they cried out, “What do yoʋ have to do with us, Jesus, Son of God? Have yoʋ come here to torment us before the appointed time?”
30 Or était non loin d’eux un grand troupeau de pourceaux qui paissaient;
Now at a distance from them there was a herd of many pigs feeding.
31 Et les démons le priaient, disant: Si vous nous chassez d’ici, envoyez-nous dans ce troupeau de pourceaux.
So the demons begged Jesus, “If yoʋ cast us out, let us go into the herd of pigs.”
32 Il leur répondit: Allez. Eux donc, étant sortis, entrèrent dans les pourceaux; et voilà que le troupeau tout entier se précipita impétueusement dans la mer; et ils moururent dans les eaux.
He said to them, “Go.” So they came out and went into the herd of pigs, and behold, the whole herd of pigs rushed down the steep bank into the sea and died in the water.
33 Et les gardiens s’enfuirent; et venant dans la ville, ils racontèrent tout ceci, et le sort de ceux qui avaient été démoniaques.
Those who had been feeding the pigs then ran off, went into the city, and reported everything, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men.
34 Aussitôt toute la ville sortit au-devant de Jésus; et l’ayant vu, ils le priaient de sortir de leurs confins.
And behold, the whole city went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they begged him to depart from their region.
