Jérémie 8
1 En ce temps-là, dit le Seigneur, on jettera les os des rois de Juda, et les os de ses princes, et les os des prêtres, et les os des prophètes, et les os de ceux qui ont habité Jérusalem, hors de leurs sépulcres;
At that time, says the Lord, they will take the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his rulers, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the people of Jerusalem out of their resting-places:
2 Et on les exposera au soleil et à la lune, et à toute la milice du ciel, qu’ils ont aimés, qu’ils ont servis, qu’ils ont cherchés et qu’ils ont adorés; on ne les recueillera pas, et on ne les ensevelira pas; comme un fumier, ils seront sur la face de la terre.
And they will put them out before the sun and the moon and all the stars of heaven, whose lovers and servants they have been, after whom they have gone, to whom they have made prayers, and to whom they have given worship: they will not be put together or placed in the earth; they will be waste on the face of the earth.
3 Et ils choisiront la mort plutôt que la vie, tous ceux qui seront restés de cette race très méchante, dans tous les lieux qui ont été abandonnés, dans lesquels je les ai jetés, dit le Seigneur des armées.
And death will be desired more than life by the rest of this evil family who are still living in all the places where I have sent them away, says the Lord of armies.
4 Et tu leur diras: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Est-ce que celui qui tombe ne se relèvera pas? et celui qui s’est détourné ne reviendra-t-il pas?
Further, you are to say to them, This is what the Lord has said: Will those who are falling not be lifted up again? will he who has gone away not come back?
5 Pourquoi donc ce peuple à Jérusalem s’est-il détourné par un détournement opiniâtre? Ils ont saisi le mensonge, et ils n’ont pas voulu revenir.
Why do these people of Jerusalem go back, for ever turning away? they will not give up their deceit, they will not come back.
6 J’ai prêté attention et j’ai écouté; personne ne dit ce qui est bon; il n’en est aucun qui fasse pénitence de son péché, disant: Qu’ai-je fait? tous ont suivi leur cours, comme un cheval qui s’élance avec impétuosité au combat.
I took note and gave ear, but no one said what is right: no man had regret for his evil-doing, saying, What have I done? everyone goes off on his way like a horse rushing to the fight.
7 Le milan connaît dans le ciel son temps; la tourterelle, l’hirondelle et la cigogne gardent le temps de leur arrivée; mais mon peuple n’a pas connu le jugement du Seigneur.
Truly, the stork in the heavens is conscious of her fixed times; the dove and the swallow and the crane keep to the times of their coming; but my people have no knowledge of the law of the Lord.
8 Comment dites-vous: Nous sommes sages, et la loi de Dieu est avec nous? il a vraiment gravé le mensonge, le style menteur des scribes.
How is it that you say, We are wise and the law of the Lord is with us? But see, the false pen of the scribes has made it false.
9 Les sages ont été confondus, ils ont été épouvantés et pris; car ils ont rejeté la parole du Seigneur, et il n’est aucune sagesse en eux.
The wise men are shamed, they are overcome with fear and taken: see, they have given up the word of the Lord; and what use is their wisdom to them?
10 À cause de cela je donnerai leurs femmes à des étrangers, et leurs champs à des héritiers, parce que, depuis le plus petit jusqu’au plus grand, tous suivent l’avarice; et que depuis le prophète jusqu’au prêtre, tous commettent le mensonge.
So I will give their wives to others, and their fields to those who will take them for themselves: for everyone, from the least to the greatest, is given up to getting money; from the priest even to the prophet, everyone is false.
11 Et ils guérissaient la blessure de la fille de mon peuple avec ignominie, disant: Paix, paix, lorsqu’il n’y avait point de paix.
And they have made little of the wounds of the daughter of Zion, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.
12 Ils ont été confus, parce qu’ils ont fait des abominations; et encore ne l’ont-ils pas été entièrement, et n’ont-ils pas su rougir; c’est pour cela qu’ils tomberont parmi ceux qui sont renversés; qu’au temps de leur Visitation ils seront renversés tous ensemble, dit le Seigneur.
Let them be put to shame because they have done disgusting things. They had no shame, they were not able to become red with shame: so they will come down with those who are falling: in the time of their punishment they will be made low, says the Lord.
13 Les rassemblant, je les rassemblerai, dit le Seigneur; il n’y a pas de raisin aux vignes, et il n’y a pas de figue aux figuiers, les feuilles sont tombées; et ce que je leur avais donné leur a échappé.
I will put an end to them completely, says the Lord: there are no grapes on the vine and no figs on the fig-tree, and the leaf is dry.
14 Pourquoi sommes-nous assis? venez ensemble, entrons dans la ville fortifiée, et soyons-y en silence; car le Seigneur notre Dieu nous a réduits au silence, et il nous a donné pour breuvage de l’eau de fiel; car nous avons péché contre le Seigneur.
Why are we seated doing nothing? come together, and let us go to the walled towns, and let destruction overtake us there, for the Lord our God has sent destruction on us, and given us bitter water for our drink, because we have done evil against the Lord.
15 Nous avons attendu la paix, et nul bien n’est venu; le temps de la guérison, et voilà l’épouvante.
We were looking for peace, but no good came; and for a time of well-being, but there is only a great fear.
16 Le roulement de ses chevaux a été entendu de Dan; à la voix des hennissements de ses combattants, toute la terre a été émue; et ils sont venus, et ils ont dévoré la terre et tout ce qu’elle contient, la ville et ses habitants.
The loud breathing of the horses comes to our ears from Dan: at the sound of the outcry of his war-horses, all the land is shaking with fear; for they have come, and have made a meal of the land and everything in it; the town and the people living in it.
17 Parce que voilà que moi, je vous enverrai des serpents, des basilics, contre lesquels il n’y a point d’enchantement, et ils vous mordront, dit le Seigneur.
See, I will send snakes and poison-snakes among you, against which the wonder-worker has no power; and they will give you wounds which may not be made well, says the Lord.
18 Ma douleur est au-dessus d’une douleur; au-dedans de moi, mon cœur est triste.
Sorrow has come on me! my heart in me is feeble.
19 Voilà la voix de la fille de mon peuple qui me crie d’une terre lointaine: Est-ce que le Seigneur n’est pas dans Sion, ou son roi n’est-il pas en elle? Pourquoi donc m’ont ils excité au courroux par leurs images taillées au ciseau, et par des vanités étrangères?
The voice of the cry of the daughter of my people comes from a far land: Is the Lord not in Zion? is not her King in her? Why have they made me angry with their images and their strange gods which are no gods?
20 La moisson est passée, l’été est fini, et nous, nous n’avons pas été sauvés.
The grain-cutting is past, the summer is ended, and no salvation has come to us.
21 Je suis brisé à cause du brisement de la fille de mon peuple, et contristé; la stupeur m’a saisi.
For the destruction of the daughter of my people I am broken: I am dressed in the clothing of grief; fear has taken me in its grip.
22 Est-ce qu’il n’y a point de résine en Galaad? ou n’y a-t-il pas là de médecin? pourquoi donc n’a-t-elle pas été fermée, la blessure de la fille de mon peuple?
Is there no life-giving oil in Gilead? is there no expert in medical arts? why then have my people not been made well?
