Jérémie 7
1 Parole qui a été adressée à Jérémie par le Seigneur, disant:
The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,
2 Tiens-toi à la porte de la maison du Seigneur, et publie là cette parole, et dis: Ecoutez la parole du Seigneur, vous tous, habitants de Juda, qui entrez par ces portes afin d’adorer le Seigneur.
Take your place in the doorway of the Lord's house, and give out this word there, and say, Give ear to the word of the Lord, all you of Judah who come inside these doors to give worship to the Lord.
3 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées, Dieu d’Israël: Rendez bonnes vos voies et vos œuvres; et j’habiterai avec vous dans ce lieu.
The Lord of armies, the God of Israel, says, Let your ways and your doings be changed for the better and I will let you go on living in this place.
4 Ne vous confiez pas en des paroles de mensonge, disant: Le temple du Seigneur, le temple du Seigneur, c’est le temple du Seigneur.
Put no faith in false words, saying, The Temple of the Lord, the Temple of the Lord, the Temple of the Lord, are these.
5 Parce que si vous dirigez bien vos voies et vos œuvres; si vous faites la Justice entre un homme et son prochain;
For if your ways and your doings are truly changed for the better; if you truly give right decisions between a man and his neighbour;
6 Si vous ne faites point de violence à l’étranger, au pupille et à la veuve; si vous ne répandez pas un sang innocent en ce lieu, et si vous ne marchez pas à la suite des dieux étrangers pour votre propre malheur:
If you are not cruel to the man from a strange country, and to the child without a father, and to the widow, and do not put the upright to death in this place, or go after other gods, causing damage to yourselves:
7 J’habiterai avec vous d’un siècle à un autre siècle dans ce lieu, dans cette terre que j’ai donnée à vos pères.
Then I will let you go on living in this place, in the land which I gave to your fathers in the past and for ever.
8 Mais voilà que vous vous confiez en des paroles de mensonge, qui ne vous seront pas utiles:
See, you put your faith in false words which are of no profit.
9 Dérober, tuer, commettre l’adultère, jurer en mentant, faire des libations aux Baalim, aller à la suite de dieux étrangers que vous ne connaissez pas.
Will you take the goods of others, put men to death, and be untrue to your wives, and take false oaths, and have perfumes burned to the Baal, and go after other gods which are strange to you;
10 Et vous êtes venus vous présenter devant moi dans cette maison, dans laquelle a été invoqué mon nom, et vous avez dit. Nous sommes délivrés, parce que nous avons fait toutes ces abominations.
And come and take your place before me in this house, which is named by my name, and say, We have been made safe; so that you may do all these disgusting things?
11 Est-ce donc qu’elle est devenue une caverne de voleurs, cette maison dans laquelle a été invoqué mon nom devant vos yeux? C’est moi, moi qui suis; moi qui ai vu, dit le Seigneur.
Has this house, which is named by my name, become a hole of thieves to you? Truly I, even I, have seen it, says the Lord.
12 Allez à mon lieu, à Silo, où a habité mon nom dès le commencement, et voyez ce que je lui ai fait, à cause de la méchanceté d’Israël, mon peuple;
But go now to my place which was in Shiloh, where I put my name at first, and see what I did to it because of the evil-doing of my people Israel.
13 Et maintenant, parce que vous avez fait toutes ces choses, dit le Seigneur, et que je vous ai parlé, me levant dès le matin, et parlant, que vous n’avez pas entendu; que je vous ai appelés et que vous n’avez pas répondu:
And now, because you have done all these works, says the Lord, and I sent my word to you, getting up early and sending, but you did not give ear; and my voice came to you, but you gave no answer:
14 Je ferai à cette maison, dans laquelle a été invoqué mon nom, et en laquelle vous avez confiance, et à ce lieu que je vous ai donné à vous et à vos pères, comme j’ai fait à Silo.
For this reason I will do to the house which is named by my name, and in which you have put your faith, and to the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.
15 Et je vous rejetterai de ma face, comme j’ai rejeté tous vos frères, toute la race d’Ephraïm.
And I will send you away from before my face, as I have sent away all your brothers, even all the seed of Ephraim.
16 Toi donc, ne prie pas pour ce peuple, ne m’adresse pour eux ni louange ni prière, et ne t’oppose pas à moi, parce que je ne t’exaucerai point.
And as for you (Jeremiah), make no prayers for this people, send up no cry or prayer for them, make no request for them to me: for I will not give ear.
17 Ne vois-tu pas ce que font ceux-ci dans les villes de Juda, et dans les places publiques de Jérusalem?
Do you not see what they are doing in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
18 Les fils amassent le bois, les pères allument le feu, et les femmes arrosent de farine la graisse, afin de faire des gâteaux à la reine du ciel, des libations à des dieux étrangers, et me provoquer au courroux.
The children go for wood, the fathers get the fire burning, the women are working the paste to make cakes for the queen of heaven, and drink offerings are drained out to other gods, moving me to wrath.
19 Est-ce moi qu’ils provoquent au courroux, dit le Seigneur? N’est-ce pas eux-mêmes qu’il provoquent à la confusion de leur visage?
Are they moving me to wrath? says the Lord; are they not moving themselves to their shame?
20 C’est pourquoi voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu: Voilà que ma fureur et mon indignation se sont embrasées sur ce lieu, sur les hommes et sur les animaux; sur les arbres de la contrée, et sur les fruits de la terre; et un feu brûlera, et il ne s’éteindra pas.
So this is what the Lord God has said: See, my wrath and my passion will be let loose on this place, on man and beast, and on the trees of the field, and on the produce of the earth; it will be burning and will not be put out.
21 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées. Dieu d’Israël: Ajoutez vos holocaustes à vos victimes, et mangez-en les chairs;
These are the words of the Lord of armies, the God of Israel: Put your burned offerings with your offerings of beasts, and take flesh for your food.
22 Parce que je n’ai point parlé à vos pères, je ne leur ai rien commandé au jour que je les ai tirés de la terre d’Egypte, au sujet des holocaustes et des victimes.
For I said nothing to your fathers, and gave them no orders, on the day when I took them out of Egypt, about burned offerings or offerings of beasts:
23 Mais voici la chose que je leur ai commandée: Ecoutez ma voix, et je serai votre Dieu, et vous serez mon peuple; et marchez dans toute la voie que je vous ai prescrite, afin que bien vous soit.
But this was the order I gave them, saying, Give ear to my voice, and I will be your God, and you will be my people: go in all the way ordered by me, so that all may be well for you.
24 Et ils n’ont pas écouté, et ils n’ont pas incliné leur oreille; mais ils se sont abandonnés à leurs volontés et à la dépravation de leur cœur mauvais; ils sont allés en arrière, et non en avant,
But they took no note and did not give ear, but were guided by the thoughts and the pride of their evil hearts, going back and not forward.
25 Depuis le jour que leurs pères sont sortis de l’Egypte jusqu’à ce jour. Et je vous ai envoyé tous mes serviteurs les prophètes, me levant au point du jour, et les envoyant.
From the day when your fathers came out of Egypt till this day, I have sent my servants the prophets to you, getting up early every day and sending them:
26 Et ils ne m’ont pas écouté, et ils n’ont pas incliné leur oreille; mais ils ont rendu leur cou inflexible, et ils ont fait pis que leurs pères.
But still they took no note and would not give ear, but they made their necks stiff, doing worse than their fathers.
27 Et tu leur diras toutes ces choses, et ils ne t’écouteront point; tu les appelleras, et ils ne te répondront point.
And you are to say all these words to them, but they will not give ear to you: you will send out your voice to them, but they will give no answer.
28 Et tu leur diras: Voici la nation qui n’a pas écouté la voix du Seigneur son Dieu, et qui n’a pas reçu sa correction; la bonne foi a péri, et elle a été enlevée de leur bouche.
And you are to say to them, This is the nation which has not given ear to the voice of their God, or taken his teaching to heart: good faith is dead and is cut off from their mouths.
29 Tonds ta chevelure, et jette-la; pousse en haut des plaintes, parce que le Seigneur a rejeté et abandonné la génération de sa fureur.
Let your hair be cut off, O Jerusalem, and let it go, and let a song of grief go up on the open hilltops; for the Lord is turned away from the generation of his wrath and has given them up.
30 Parce que les fils de Juda ont fait le mal devant mes yeux, dit le Seigneur. Ils ont mis leurs pierres d’achoppement dans la maison dans laquelle a été invoqué mon nom, afin de la souiller;
For the children of Judah have done what is evil in my eyes, says the Lord: they have put their disgusting images in the house which is named by my name, making it unclean.
31 Et ils ont bâti des hauts lieux à Topheth, qui est dans la Vallée du fils d’Ennom, afin d’y brûler leurs fils et leurs filles au feu; choses que je n’ai pas ordonnées, ni pensées dans mon cœur.
And they have put up the high place of Topheth in the valley of the son of Hinnom, burning their sons and their daughters there in the fire; a thing which was not ordered by me and never came into my mind.
32 C’est pourquoi voilà que des jours viendront, dit le Seigneur, et l’on ne dira plus Topheth, et la Vallée du fils d’Ennom; mais la Vallée du carnage; et l’on ensevelira à Topheth, parce qu’il n’y aura pas d’autre lieu pour ensevelir.
For this cause, the days are coming, says the Lord, when it will no longer be named Topheth, or, The valley of the son of Hinnom, but, The valley of Death: for they will put the dead into the earth in Topheth till there is no more room.
33 Et les cadavres de ce peuple seront en pâture aux oiseaux du ciel et aux bêtes de la terre, et il n’y aura personne qui les chasse.
And the bodies of this people will be food for the birds of heaven and for the beasts of the earth; and there will be no one to send them away.
34 Et je ferai cesser, dans les villes de Juda et dans les places publiques de Jérusalem, la voix de la joie et la voix de l’allégresse, la voix de l’époux et la voix de l’épouse; car la terre sera désolée.
And in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, I will put an end to the laughing voices, the voice of joy and the voice of the newly-married man and the voice of the bride: for the land will become a waste.
