1 Corinthiens 13
1 Quand je parlerais les langues des hommes et des anges, si je n’ai pas la chanté, je suis comme un airain sonnant ou une cymbale retentissante.
Suppose that I speak with the tongues of men and of angels. But if I do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
2 Et quand j’aurais le don de prophétie, que je connaîtrais tous les mystères et toute la science; quand j’aurais toute la foi, au point de transporter des montagnes, si je n’ai point la charité, je ne suis rien.
Suppose that I have the gift of prophecy and understand all hidden truths and knowledge, and that I have all faith so as to remove mountains. But if I do not have love, I am nothing.
3 Et quand je distribuerais tout mon bien pour la nourriture des pauvres et que je livrerais mon corps pour être brûlé, si je n’ai point la charité, cela ne me sert de rien.
Suppose that I give all I own to feed the poor, and that I give my body to be burned. But if I do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 La charité est patiente; elle est douce; la charité n’est point envieuse; elle n’agit pas insolemment; elle ne s’enfle point;
Love is patient and kind. Love does not envy or boast. It is not arrogant
5 Elle n’est point ambitieuse, elle ne cherche point son propre intérêt; elle ne s’irrite point; elle ne pense pas le mal;
or rude. It is not self-serving. It is not easily angered, nor does it keep a count of wrongs.
6 Elie ne se réjouit pas de l’iniquité, mais elle met sa joie dans la vérité;
It does not rejoice in unrighteousness. Instead, it rejoices in the truth.
7 Elle souffre tout, elle croit tout, elle espère tout, elle endure tout.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.
8 La charité ne finira jamais, pas même lorsque les prophéties s’anéantiront, que les langues cesseront, et que la science sera détruite.
Love never ends. If there are prophecies, they will pass away. If there are tongues, they will cease. If there is knowledge, it will pass away.
9 Car c’est imparfaitement que nous connaissons, et imparfaitement que nous prophétisons.
For we know in part and we prophesy in part.
10 Mais quand viendra ce qui est parfait, alors s’anéantira ce qui est imparfait.
But when the perfect comes, that which is incomplete will pass away.
11 Quand j’étais petit enfant, je parlais comme un petit enfant, j’avais les goûts d’un petit enfant, je raisonnais comme un petit enfant; mais quand je suis devenu homme, je me suis dépouillé de ce qui était de l’enfant.
When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became an adult, I put away childish things.
12 Nous voyons maintenant à travers un miroir en énigme; mais alors nous verrons face à face. Maintenant je connais imparfaitement; mais alors je connaîtrai aussi bien que je suis connu moi-même.
For now we see indirectly in a mirror, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I have been fully known.
13 Maintenant demeurent toutes les trois, la foi, l’espérance, la charité: mais la plus grande des trois est la charité.
But now these three remain: faith, future confidence, and love. But the greatest of these is love.
