Proverbes 3
1 Mon fils, n'oublie point mes lois, et garde mes paroles en ton cœur;
My son, forget not my teaching, and let thy heart keep my commandments;
2 car elles te donneront la longueur des jours, des années de vie, et la paix.
For length of days, and years of life, and peace, will they increase unto thee.
3 Que la miséricorde et la foi ne te quittent point; mais attache-les à ton cou, et tu trouveras grâce.
Let kindness and truth not forsake thee; bind them about thy throat; write them upon the table of thy heart:
4 Et pense au bien devant le Seigneur et devant les hommes.
So shalt thou find grace and good favor in the eyes of God and man.
5 Mets ta confiance en Dieu de tout ton cœur, et ne t'enorgueillis point de ta sagesse.
Trust in the Lord with all thy heart: and upon thy own understanding do not rely.
6 Discerne-la en toutes tes voies, pour marcher droit dans tes sentiers.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he will make level thy paths.
7 Ne te crois point sage par toi-même; mais crains Dieu, et détourne-toi de tout mal.
Be not wise in thy own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
8 Alors la santé sera en ton corps, et le bien-être en tes os.
It will be healing to thy body, and marrow to thy bones.
9 Rends hommage au Seigneur de tes labeurs prospères, et offre-Lui les prémices des fruits de ta justice.
Honor the Lord with thy wealth, and with the first-fruits of all thy products:
10 Afin que tes celliers regorgent de froment, et que tes pressoirs débordent de vin.
So shall thy storehouses be filled with plenty, and with new wine shall thy presses overflow.
11 Mon fils, ne rejette point la discipline du Seigneur; ne te lasse pas d'être réprimandé par Lui.
The correction of the Lord, my son, do not despise; and feel no loathing for his admonition;
12 Car le Seigneur reprend celui qu'Il aime, et frappe l'enfant qu'Il préfère.
Because whomever the Lord loveth he admonisheth; and as a father who delighteth in [his] son.
13 Heureux l'homme qui a trouvé la Sagesse, et le mortel qui a connu la Prudence.
Happy the man that hath found wisdom, and the man that acquireth understanding.
14 Car elle est meilleure à gagner que des trésors entiers d'or et d'argent.
For the obtaining of her is better than the obtaining of silver, and better than fine gold is her product.
15 Elle est plus précieuse que les pierreries; nul mal ne lui résiste; elle est bien connue de tous ceux qui l'approchent; rien de ce qu'on estime n'est digne d'elle.
She is more precious than pearls; and all the things thou valuest are not equal unto her.
16 En sa main droite sont les longs jours et les années de vie; en sa gauche, la richesse et la gloire; de sa bouche procède la justice, et sa langue porte la loi et la miséricorde.
Length of days is in her right hand: in her left are riches and honor.
17 Ses voies sont les bonnes voies, et tous ses sentiers pacifiques.
Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
18 Elle est l'arbre de vie pour ceux qui l'embrassent; elle est un sûr appui pour ceux qui s'attachent à elle, comme au Seigneur.
A tree of life is she to those that lay hold on her: and every one that firmly graspeth her will be made happy.
19 Dieu a fondé la terre par la Sagesse; Il a affermi le ciel par la Prudence.
The Lord hath through wisdom founded the earth: he hath established the heavens through understanding.
20 Grâce à sa prévoyance, les abîmes ont été rompus, et les nuages ont répandu la rosée.
By his knowledge were the depths split open, and the skies drop down the dew.
21 Mon fils, que ces choses ne s'éloignent pas de toi; garde mes conseils et ma science,
My son, let them not be removed from thy eyes; keep [before thee] sound wisdom and discretion:
22 afin que ton âme vive, et que la grâce demeure autour de ton cou, la santé sera en ta chair, et le bien-être en tes os;
And they will be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy throat.
23 afin que tu marches, en toutes tes voies, plein d'assurance et de paix, et que ton pied ne trébuche pas.
Then wilt thou walk in safety on thy way, and thy foot will not strike [against aught]:
24 Si tu reposes, tu seras sans crainte; si tu sommeilles, tu dormiras doucement.
When thou layest thyself down, thou shalt feel no dread; and as thou liest down, thy sleep shall be pleasant.
25 Tu ne redouteras ni les alarmes soudaines, ni les attaques des impies
Thou needest not to be afraid of sudden dread, neither of the [unlooked-for] tempest over the wicked, when it cometh.
26 Car le Seigneur sera sur toutes tes voies, et Il affermira ton pied de peur que tu ne chancelles.
For the Lord will be thy confidence, and he will guard thy foot from being caught.
27 Ne t'abstiens pas de faire du bien à l'indigent, sous prétexte que ta main ne peut le secourir.
Withhold not a benefit from him who is deserving it, when it is in the power of thy hand to do it.
28 Ne dis pas, quand tu pourras bien faire: Va et reviens, demain je te donnerai; car tu ne sais ce qu'amènera le jour suivant.
Say not unto thy neighbor, Go, and return, and tomorrow will I give: when thou hast it by thee.
29 Ne pense pas à mal contre ton ami qui vit près de toi, et se fie à toi.
Contrive not against thy neighbor any evil, when he dwelleth in safety with thee.
30 Ne prends pas en haine un homme sans motif, de peur qu'il ne vienne à te nuire.
Quarrel not with any man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.
31 Ne t'attire pas les outrages d'hommes méchants; ne porte point envie à leurs voies.
Envy not the man of violence, and choose none of his ways.
32 Car tout pervers est impur devant le Seigneur, et il ne siégera point dans l'assemblée des justes.
For the froward is an abomination to the Lord; but with the upright is his good-will.
33 La malédiction de Dieu est sur la maison des impies; mais les chaumières des justes sont bénies.
The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked; but the habitation of the righteous will he bless.
34 Le Seigneur résiste aux superbes; mais Il donne Sa grâce aux humbles.
If [it concern] the scornful he will himself render them a scorn; but unto the lowly doth he give grace.
35 Les sages auront la gloire pour héritage; tandis que les impies exalteront leur propre ignominie.
The wise shall inherit glory; but fools shall obtain disgrace as their portion.
