1 Elisée, le prophète, appela un des fils des prophètes et lui dit: « Ceins tes reins, prends en ta main cette fiole d'huile et va à Ramoth-en-Galaad.
Then Elisha the Prophet called one of ye children of the Prophets, and sayde vnto him, Gird thy loynes and take this boxe of oyle in thine hand and get thee to Ramoth Gilead.
2 Quand tu y seras arrivé, regarde après Jéhu, fils de Josaphat, fils de Namsi; et, l'ayant abordé, tu le feras lever du milieu de ses frères, et tu le conduiras dans une chambre retirée.
And when thou commest thither, looke where is Iehu ye sonne of Iehoshaphat, the sonne of Nimshi, and go, and make him arise vp from among his brethren, and leade him to a secret chamber.
3 Tu prendras la fiole d'huile, tu la répandras sur sa tête et tu diras: Ainsi dit Yahweh: Je t'oins roi d'Israël. Puis tu ouvriras la porte et tu t'enfuiras sans tarder. »
Then take the boxe of oyle and powre it on his head, and say, Thus sayth the Lord, I haue anointed thee for King ouer Israel. then open the doore, and flee without any tarying.
4 Le jeune homme, serviteur du prophète, partit pour Ramoth-en-Galaad.
So the seruat of ye Prophet gate him to Ramoth Gilead.
5 Lorsqu'il arriva, voici que les chefs de l'armée étaient assis. Il dit: « Chef, j'ai un mot à te dire. » Et Jéhu dit: « Auquel de nous tous? » Il répondit: « A toi, chef. »
And when he came in, behold, the captaines of the armie were sitting. And he sayde, I haue a message to thee, O captaine. And Iehu sayd, Vnto which of all vs? And he answered, To thee, O captaine.
6 Jéhu se leva et entra dans la maison; et le jeune homme répandit l'huile sur sa tête, en lui disant: « Ainsi dit Yahweh, Dieu d'Israël: Je t'oins roi du peuple de Yahweh, d'Israël.
And he arose, and went into the house, and he powred the oyle on his head and sayde vnto him, Thus sayth the Lord God of Israel, I haue anointed thee for King ouer the people of the Lord, euen ouer Israel.
7 Tu frapperas la maison d'Achab, ton maître, et je vengerai sur Jézabel le sang de mes serviteurs les prophètes et le sang de tous les serviteurs de Yahweh.
And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may auenge the blood of my seruants the Prophets, and the blood of al the seruants of the Lord of the hand of Iezebel.
8 Toute la maison d'Achab périra; j'exterminerai tout mâle appartenant à Achab, celui qui est esclave et celui qui est libre en Israël,
For the whole house of Ahab shalbe destroied: and I will cut off from Ahab, him that maketh water against the wall, as well him that is shut vp, as him that is left in Israel.
9 et je rendrai la maison d'Achab semblable à la maison de Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, et à la maison de Baasa, fils d'Ahia.
And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the sonne of Ahiiah.
10 Les chiens mangeront Jézabel dans le champ de Jézrahel, et il n'y aura personne pour l'enterrer. » Et le jeune homme, ouvrant la porte, s'enfuit.
And the dogges shall eate Iezebel in the fielde of Izreel, and there shalbe none to burie her. And he opened the doore, and fled.
11 Alors Jéhu sortit pour rejoindre les serviteurs de son maître. Ils lui dirent: « Tout va-t-il bien? Pourquoi ce fou est-il venu vers toi? » Il leur répondit: « Vous connaissez l'homme et son langage. »
Then Iehu came out to the seruants of his lord. And one sayd vnto him, Is all well? wherefore came this mad fellowe to thee? And hee sayde vnto them, Ye knowe the man, and what his talke was.
12 Ils répliquèrent: « Mensonge! Déclare-le-nous! » Et il dit: « Il m'a parlé de telle et telle manière, disant: Ainsi dit Yahweh: Je t'oins roi d'Israël. »
And they sayde, It is false, tell vs it nowe. Then he sayd, Thus and thus spake he to me, saying, Thus saieth the Lord, I haue anointed thee for King ouer Israel.
13 Aussitôt, chacun prenant son manteau, ils le mirent sous Jéhu, au haut des degrés; ils sonnèrent de la trompette et dirent: « Jéhu est roi! »
Then they made haste, and tooke euerie man his garment, and put it vnder him on the top of the staires, and blewe the trumpet, saying, Iehu is King.
14 Jéhu, fils de Josaphat, fils de Namsi, forma une conspiration contre Joram. — Joram et tout Israël défendaient alors Ramoth-en-Galaad contre Hazaël, roi de Syrie;
So Iehu ye sonne of Iehoshaphat the sonne of Nimshi conspired against Ioram: (Now Ioram kept Ramoth Gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael King of Aram.
15 mais le roi Joram s'en était retourné pour se faire guérir à Jezrahel des blessures que les Syriens lui avaient faites, lorsqu'il se battait contre Hazaël, roi de Syrie. — Jéhu dit: « Si c'est votre désir, que personne ne s'échappe de la ville pour aller porter la nouvelle à Jezrahel. »
And King Ioram returned to bee healed in Izreel of the woundes, which the Aramites had giuen him, when hee fought with Hazael King of Aram) and Iehu sayde, If it be your mindes, let no man depart and escape out of the citie, to goe and tell in Izreel.
16 Et Jéhu, étant monté sur son char, partit pour Jezrahel, car Joram y était couché, et Ochozias, roi de Juda, était descendu pour visiter Joram.
So Iehu gate vp into a charet, and went to Izreel: for Ioram lay there, and Ahaziah King of Iudah was come downe to see Ioram.
17 La sentinelle qui se tenait sur la tour à Jezrahel vit venir la troupe de Jéhu et dit: « Je vois une troupe. » Et Joram dit: « Prends un cavalier et envoie-le au-devant d'eux pour demander: Est-ce la paix? »
And the watchman that stoode in the towre in Izreel spyed the companie of Iehu as hee came, and sayd, I see a companie. And Iehoram said, Take a horseman and send to meete them, that hee may say, Is it peace?
18 Le cavalier alla au-devant de Jéhu et dit: « Ainsi dit le roi: Est-ce la paix? » Et Jéhu répondit: « Que t'importe la paix? Passe derrière moi. » La sentinelle en donna son avis, en disant: « Le messager est allé jusqu'à eux, et il ne revient pas. »
So there went one on horseback to meete him, and sayde, Thus sayth the King, Is it peace? And Iehu sayd, What hast thou to do with peace? Turne behinde me. And the watchman tolde, saying, The messenger came to them, but he commeth not againe.
19 Joram envoya un second cavalier, qui arriva vers eux et dit: « Ainsi dit le roi: Est-ce la paix? » Et Jéhu répondit: « Que t'importe la paix?; passe derrière moi. »
Then hee sent out another on horsebacke, which came to them, and sayde, Thus sayth the King, Is it peace? And Iehu answered, What hast thou to doe with peace? turne behinde me.
20 La sentinelle en donna avis, en disant: « Le messager est allé jusqu'à eux, et il ne revient pas. Et la manière de conduire est comme la manière de conduire de Jéhu, fils de Namsi, car il conduit d'une manière insensée. »
And the watchman tolde, saying, He came to them also, but commeth not againe, and the marching is like the marching of Iehu the sonne of Nimshi: for he marcheth furiously.
21 Alors Joram dit: « Attelle; » et on attela son char. Joram, roi d'Israël, et Ochozias, roi de Juda, sortirent chacun sur son char; ils sortirent au-devant de Jéhu, et ils le rencontrèrent dans le champ de Naboth de Jezrahel.
Then Iehoram sayd, Make ready: and his charet was made ready. And Iehoram King of Israel and Ahaziah King of Iudah went out eyther of them in his charet against Iehu, and met him in the fielde of Naboth the Izreelite.
22 En apercevant Jéhu, Joram lui dit: « Est-ce la paix, Jéhu? » Jéhu répondit: « Quelle paix, tant que durent les prostitutions de Jézabel, ta mère, et ses nombreux sortilèges? »
And when Iehoram sawe Iehu, he sayde, Is it peace, Iehu? And he answered, What peace? whiles the whoredomes of thy mother Iezebel, and her witchcraftes are yet in great nomber?
23 Joram tourna bride et s'enfuit, et il dit à Ochozias: « Trahison, Ochozias! »
Then Iehoram turned his hand, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, O Ahaziah, there is treason.
24 Mais Jéhu saisit son arc de sa main, et frappa Joram entre les épaules: la flèche sortit par le cœur, et Joram s'affaissa dans son char.
But Iehu tooke a bowe in his hande, and smote Iehoram betweene the shoulders, that the arowe went through his heart: and he fell downe in his charet.
25 Et Jéhu dit à son officier Badacer: « Prends-le et jette-le dans le champ de Naboth de Jezrahel. Car, souviens-toi: lorsque moi et toi nous chevauchions ensemble derrière Achab, son père, Yahweh prononça contre lui cette sentence:
Then said Iehu to Bidkar a captaine, Take, and cast him in some place of the fielde of Naboth the Izreelite: for I remember that when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, the Lord layed this burden vpon him.
26 « Aussi vrai que j'ai vu hier le sang de Naboth et le sang de ses fils, oracle de Yahweh, je te rendrai la pareille dans ce champ même, oracle de Yahweh. » Prends-le donc et jette-le dans le champ, selon la parole de Yahweh. »
Surely I haue seene yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sonnes, saide the Lord, and I will render it thee in this fielde, saith the Lord: nowe therefore take and cast him in the fielde, according to the word of the Lord.
27 Ochozias, roi de Juda, voyant cela, s'enfuit par le chemin de la maison du jardin. Jéhu le poursuivit et dit: « Frappez-le, lui aussi, sur le char! » Et on le frappa à la montée de Gaver, près de Jeblaam. Il s'enfuit à Mageddo, et il y mourut.
But when Ahaziah the King of Iudah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house: And Iehu pursued after him, and sayd, Smite him also in the charet: and they smote him in the going vp to Gur, which is by Ibleam. And hee fled to Megiddo, and there dyed.
28 Ses serviteurs le transportèrent sur un char à Jérusalem, et ils l'enterrèrent dans son sépulcre avec ses pères, dans la ville de David.
And his seruants caried him in a charet to Ierusalem, and buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers in the citie of Dauid.
29 Ochozias était devenu roi de Juda la onzième année de Joram, fils d'Achab.
And in the eleuenth yere of Ioram the sonne of Ahab, began Ahaziah to reigne ouer Iudah.
30 Jéhu entra dans Jezrahel. Jézabel, l'ayant appris, mit du fard à ses yeux, se para la tête et regarda par la fenêtre.
And when Iehu was come to Izreel, Iezebel heard of it, and painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a windowe.
31 Comme Jéhu franchissait la porte, elle dit: « Est-ce la paix, Zamri, assassin de son maître? »
And as Iehu entred at the gate, shee sayde, Had Zimri peace, which slewe his master?
32 Il leva les yeux vers la fenêtre et dit: « Qui est avec moi? Qui? » Et deux ou trois eunuques ayant regardé vers lui,
And he lift vp his eyes to the windowe, and sayd, Who is on my side, who? Then two or three of her Eunuches looked vnto him.
33 il dit: « Jetez-la en bas! » Ils la jetèrent en bas, et il rejaillit de son sang sur la muraille et sur les chevaux, et Jéhu la foula aux pieds.
And he sayde, Cast her downe: and they cast her downe, and hee sprinkled of her blood vpon the wall, and vpon the horses, and he trode her vnder foote.
34 Puis il entra et, ayant mangé et bu, il dit: « Allez voir cette maudite et enterrez-la, car elle est fille de roi. »
And when he was come in, he did eate and drinke, and sayde, Visite now yonder cursed woman, and burie her: for she is a Kings daughter.
35 Ils allèrent pour l'enterrer, mais ils ne trouvèrent d'elle que le crâne, les pieds et les paumes de ses mains.
And they went to burie her, but they foud no more of her, then the skull and the feete, and the palmes of her handes.
36 Ils retournèrent l'annoncer à Jéhu, qui dit: « Telle est la parole de Yahweh, qu'il avait prononcée par son serviteur Elie le Thesbite, en disant: Dans le champ de Jezrahel, les chiens mangeront la chair de Jézabel;
Wherefore they came agayne and tolde him. And he said, This is the worde of the Lord, which he spake by his seruant Eliiah the Tishbite, saying, In the fielde of Izreel shall ye dogs eate the flesh of Iezebel.
37 et le cadavre de Jézabel sera comme du fumier sur la surface du champ, dans le champ de Jezrahel, de sorte qu'on ne pourra pas dire: c'est Jézabel. »
And the carkeis of Iezebel shalbe as doung vpon the ground in the field of Izreel, so that none shall say, This is Iezebel.
