1 « Je suis la vraie vigne, et mon Père est le cultivateur.
“I am the vine, the true one, and my Father is the vinedresser.
2 Tout sarment qui est en moi et qui ne porte pas de fruit, il l'enlève. Tout sarment qui porte du fruit, il l'émonde, afin qu'il porte encore plus de fruit.
Any branch in me which does not produce fruit He lifts up, and every one producing fruit He prunes, so that it may produce more fruit.
3 Vous êtes déjà émondés, à cause de la parole que je vous ai dite.
You are already clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.
4 Restez en moi, et moi en vous. De même que le sarment ne peut porter du fruit de lui-même s'il ne demeure pas dans le cep, de même vous ne le pouvez pas non plus, si vous ne demeurez pas en moi.
Abide in me and I in you. Just as a branch is incapable of producing fruit by itself, except it remains in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in me.
5 Je suis la vigne. Vous êtes les sarments. Celui qui demeure en moi et en qui je demeure porte beaucoup de fruit, car hors de moi vous ne pouvez rien faire.
“I am the vine, and you are the branches. The one who abides in me and I in him, he is the one who produces much fruit, because apart from me you are incapable of doing anything.
6 Si un homme ne demeure pas en moi, il est jeté comme un sarment et il se dessèche; on le ramasse, on le jette au feu et il brûle.
If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown out, like a branch, and dries up; well they gather such and throw them into the fire, and he is burned up.
7 Si vous demeurez en moi, et que mes paroles demeurent en vous, vous demanderez tout ce que vous voudrez, et cela vous sera accordé.
If you abide in me and my sayings abide in you, you will ask whatever you desire and it will happen for you.
8 « Mon Père est glorifié en ceci que vous portez beaucoup de fruit; c'est ainsi que vous serez mes disciples.
My Father is glorified by this: that you produce much fruit; and you will become disciples to me.
9 Comme le Père m'a aimé, moi aussi je vous ai aimés. Demeurez dans mon amour.
“Just as the Father has loved me, I also have loved you; abide in my love.
10 Si vous gardez mes commandements, vous demeurerez dans mon amour, comme j'ai gardé les commandements de mon Père et que je demeure dans son amour.
If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in His love.
11 Je vous ai dit ces choses, afin que ma joie demeure en vous, et que votre joie soit parfaite.
I have spoken these things to you so that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be made full.
12 « Voici mon commandement: aimez-vous les uns les autres, comme je vous ai aimés.
This is my commandment, that you love one another just as I have loved you.
13 Il n'y a pas de plus grand amour que celui-ci: que quelqu'un donne sa vie pour ses amis.
No one has greater love than this, that someone should lay down his life for his friends.
14 Vous êtes mes amis, si vous faites tout ce que je vous commande.
You are my friends if you do whatever I command you.
15 Je ne vous appelle plus serviteurs, car le serviteur ne sait pas ce que fait son maître. Mais je vous ai appelés amis, car tout ce que j'ai entendu de mon Père, je vous l'ai fait connaître.
“I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his owner is doing; rather I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I heard from my Father.
16 Ce n'est pas vous qui m'avez choisi, mais c'est moi qui vous ai choisis et établis, afin que vous alliez et que vous portiez du fruit, et que votre fruit demeure, afin que tout ce que vous demanderez au Père en mon nom, il vous le donne.
It was not you who chose me but I who chose you, and I appointed you so that you should go and produce fruit, and that your fruit should endure, so that whatever you may ask the Father in my name He may give you.
17 Je vous ordonne ces choses, afin que vous vous aimiez les uns les autres.
These things I command you so that you love one another.
18 Si le monde vous hait, vous savez qu'il m'a haï avant de vous haïr.
“When the world hates you, you can be sure that it has hated me first.
19 Si vous étiez du monde, le monde aimerait les siens. Mais parce que vous n'êtes pas du monde, parce que je vous ai choisis hors du monde, c'est pourquoi le monde vous hait.
If you were of the world, the world would be fond of its own. So because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, that is why the world hates you.
20 Souvenez-vous de la parole que je vous ai dite: « Le serviteur n'est pas plus grand que son maître ». S'ils m'ont persécuté, ils vous persécuteront aussi. S'ils ont gardé ma parole, ils garderont aussi la vôtre.
Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A slave is not greater than his owner.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.
21 Mais ils vous feront toutes ces choses à cause de mon nom, parce qu'ils ne connaissent pas celui qui m'a envoyé.
Now they will do all of these things to you because of my name, in that they do not know the One who sent me.
22 Si je n'étais pas venu leur parler, ils n'auraient pas eu de péché; mais maintenant ils n'ont aucune excuse pour leur péché.
If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be having sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.
23 Celui qui me hait, hait aussi mon Père.
The one who hates me hates my Father too.
24 Si je n'avais pas fait parmi eux les œuvres que personne d'autre n'a faites, ils n'auraient pas eu de péché. Mais maintenant ils ont vu et ils ont aussi haï à la fois moi et mon Père.
If I had not done among them the works that no one else has done, they would not be having sin; but now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father.
25 Mais cela est arrivé afin que s'accomplisse la parole qui était écrite dans leur loi: « Ils m'ont haï sans cause.
However, this was so that the statement written in their law might be fulfilled, ‘They hated me without cause.’
26 Quand sera venu le conseiller que je vous enverrai de la part du Père, l'Esprit de vérité, qui vient du Père, il rendra témoignage de moi.
“Now when the Enabler comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of the Truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify concerning me.
27 Vous aussi, vous rendrez témoignage, parce que vous êtes avec moi depuis le commencement.
And you also will testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.
