Job 37
1 « Oui, à cela mon cœur tremble, et est déplacé de sa place.
At this my heart trembleth, And leapeth out of its place.
2 Écoutez, oh, écoutez le bruit de sa voix, le son qui sort de sa bouche.
Hear, O hear, the thunder of his voice, And the noise which goeth forth from his mouth!
3 Il l'envoie sous tout le ciel, et sa foudre jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre.
He directeth it under the whole heaven, And his lightning to the ends of the earth.
4 Après cela, une voix rugit. Il tonne de la voix de sa majesté. Il ne retient rien quand sa voix est entendue.
After it the thunder roareth; He thundereth with his voice of majesty, And restraineth it not, when his voice is heard.
5 Dieu fait retentir sa voix d'une manière merveilleuse. Il fait de grandes choses, que nous ne pouvons pas comprendre.
God thundereth with his voice marvellously; Great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend.
6 Car il dit à la neige: « Tombe sur la terre ». comme pour l'averse de pluie, et aux averses de sa pluie puissante.
For he saith to the snow, “Be thou on the earth!” To the shower also, even the showers of his might.
7 Il scelle la main de chaque homme, afin que tous les hommes qu'il a créés la connaissent.
He sealeth up the hand of every man, That all men whom he hath made may acknowledge him.
8 Puis les animaux se mettent à l'abri, et restent dans leur tanière.
Then the beasts go into dens, And abide in their caverns.
9 De sa chambre sort la tempête, et du froid venant du nord.
Out of the south cometh the whirlwind, And cold out of the north.
10 Par le souffle de Dieu, la glace est donnée, et la largeur des eaux est gelée.
By the breath of God ice is formed, And the broad waters become narrow,
11 Oui, il charge d'humidité l'épais nuage. Il répand à l'étranger le nuage de sa foudre.
Yea, with moisture he burdeneth the clouds; He spreadeth abroad his lightning-clouds.
12 Elle est retournée par ses conseils, pour qu'ils fassent tout ce qu'il leur ordonne sur la surface du monde habitable,
They move about by his direction, To execute all his commands throughout the world;
13 que ce soit pour la correction, ou pour son pays, ou par bonté d'âme, qu'il la fait venir.
Whether he cause them to come for punishment, Or for the land, or for mercy.
14 « Écoute ceci, Job. Arrêtez-vous, et considérez les merveilles de Dieu.
Give ear to this, O Job! Stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God!
15 Savez-vous comment Dieu les contrôle? et fait briller les éclairs de sa nuée?
Dost thou know when God gave commandment to them, And caused the lightning of his cloud to flash?
16 Connaissez-vous le fonctionnement des nuages, les merveilles de celui qui est parfait dans la connaissance?
Dost thou understand the balancing of the clouds, The wondrous works of Him that is perfect in knowledge?
17 Toi dont les vêtements sont chauds quand la terre est immobile à cause du vent du sud?
How thy garments become warm, When he maketh the earth still by the south wind?
18 Pouvez-vous, avec lui, déployer le ciel, qui est aussi solide qu'un miroir en métal moulé?
Canst thou like him spread out the sky, Which is firm like a molten mirror?
19 Apprends-nous ce que nous allons lui dire, car nous ne pouvons pas défendre notre cause à cause de l'obscurité.
Teach us what we shall say to him! For we cannot set in order our words by reason of darkness.
20 Lui dira-t-on que je veux parler? Ou un homme devrait-il souhaiter être englouti?
Shall it be told him that I would speak? Shall a man speak, that he may be consumed?
21 Maintenant, les hommes ne voient pas la lumière qui brille dans les cieux, mais le vent passe, et les dégage.
For now men do not look upon the light, When it is bright in the skies, When the wind hath passed over them, and made them clear.
22 Du nord vient la splendeur de l'or. Avec Dieu, la majesté est impressionnante.
From the north cometh gold; But with God is terrible majesty!
23 Nous ne pouvons pas atteindre le Tout-Puissant. Il est exalté par le pouvoir. Dans la justice et la grande droiture, il n'opprimera pas.
The Almighty, we cannot find him out; Great is he in power and justice, Abundant in righteousness; he doth not oppress.
24 C'est pourquoi les hommes le révèrent. Il ne considère pas ceux qui sont sages de cœur. »
Therefore let men fear him! Upon none of the wise in heart will he look.
