John 9
1 And passing by, he saw a man blind from birth,
Comme il passait, il vit un homme aveugle de naissance,
2 and his disciples asked him, saying, 'Rabbi, who did sin, this one or his parents, that he should be born blind?'
et ses disciples lui demandèrent: «Maître, qui est-ce qui a péché, de cet homme, ou de ses parents, pour qu'il soit né aveugle?»
3 Jesus answered, 'Neither did this one sin nor his parents, but that the works of God may be manifested in him;
Jésus répondit: «Ce n'est pas qu'il ait péché, ni lui, ni ses parents, mais c'est afin que les oeuvres de Dieu éclatent en lui.
4 it behoveth me to be working the works of Him who sent me while it is day; night doth come, when no one is able to work: —
Il nous faut faire les oeuvres de celui qui m'a envoyé, pendant qu'il est jour; la nuit vient, où l'on ne peut travailler.
5 when I am in the world, I am a light of the world.'
Pendant que je suis dans le monde, je suis la lumière du monde.»
6 These things saying, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and rubbed the clay on the eyes of the blind man, and said to him,
Ayant ainsi parlé, il cracha à terre, fit de la boue avec sa salive, enduisit de cette boue les yeux de l'aveugle,
7 'Go away, wash at the pool of Siloam,' which is, interpreted, Sent. He went away, therefore, and did wash, and came seeing;
et lui dit: «Va, lave-toi au réservoir de Siloé» (nom qui signifie Envoyé). Il s'en alla donc, se lava, et revint clairvoyant.
8 the neighbours, therefore, and those seeing him before, that he was blind, said, 'Is not this he who is sitting and begging?'
Ses voisins et ceux qui auparavant l'avaient vu mendier, disaient: «N'est-ce pas là celui qui était assis et qui mendiait?»
9 others said — 'This is he;' and others — 'He is like to him;' he himself said, — 'I am [he].'
Les uns disaient: «C'est lui.» — «Non, disaient d'autres, mais il lui ressemble.» Lui disait: «C'est moi.»
10 They said, therefore, to him, 'How were thine eyes opened?'
Sur quoi ils lui dirent: «Comment tes yeux ont-ils été ouverts?»
11 he answered and said, 'A man called Jesus made clay, and rubbed my eyes, and said to me, Go away to the pool of Siloam, and wash; and having gone away and having washed, I received sight;'
Il répondit: «Un homme appelé Jésus a fait de la boue, il m'en a enduit les yeux, et m'a dit: «Va à Siloé, et te lave.» J'y suis allé, et, m'étant lavé, j'ai recouvré la vue.»
12 they said, therefore, to him, 'Where is that one?' he saith, 'I have not known.'
Ils lui dirent: «où est cet homme?» — «Je ne sais pas, » répondit-il.
13 They bring him to the Pharisees who once [was] blind,
Ils menèrent vers les pharisiens celui qui naguère était aveugle.
14 and it was a sabbath when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
Or, c'était un jour de sabbat que Jésus avait fait de la boue, et lui avait ouvert les yeux.
15 Again, therefore, the Pharisees also were asking him how he received sight, and he said to them, 'Clay he did put upon my eyes, and I did wash — and I see.'
Les pharisiens à leur tour, lui demandèrent aussi comment il avait recouvré la vue; et il leur dit: «Il m'a mis de la boue sur les yeux; je me suis lavé, et je vois.»
16 Of the Pharisees, therefore, certain said, 'This man is not from God, because the sabbath he doth not keep;' others said, 'How is a man — a sinful one — able to do such signs?' and there was a division among them.
Là-dessus, quelques-uns des pharisiens dirent: «Cet homme n'est pas envoyé de Dieu, puisqu'il n'observe pas le sabbat.» Mais d'autres disaient: «Comment un méchant pourrait-il faire de tels miracles?» Et ils étaient divisés entre eux.
17 They said to the blind man again, 'Thou — what dost thou say of him — that he opened thine eyes?'
Ils dirent donc de nouveau à l'aveugle: » Et toi, que dis-tu de cet homme qui t'a ouvert les yeux?» — «C'est un prophète, » dit-il.
18 and he said — 'He is a prophet.' The Jews, therefore, did not believe concerning him that he was blind and did receive sight, till that they called the parents of him who received sight,
Les Juifs ne voulurent point croire que cet homme eût été aveugle et qu'il eût recouvré la vue, jusqu’à ce qu'ils eussent fait venir son père et sa mère.
19 and they asked them, saying, 'Is your son, of whom ye say that he was born blind? how then now doth he see?'
Et ils les interrogèrent: «Est-ce là, demandèrent-ils, votre fils, que vous dites être né aveugle? Comment donc voit-il à cette heure?»
20 His parents answered them and said, 'We have known that this is our son, and that he was born blind;
Les parents répondirent: «Nous savons que c'est bien là notre fils, et qu'il est né aveugle;
21 and how he now seeth, we have not known; or who opened his eyes, we have not known; himself is of age, ask him; he himself shall speak concerning himself.'
mais comment il se fait qu'il voie maintenant, nous l'ignorons; qui lui a ouvert les yeux, nous ne le savons pas. Interrogez-le, il a de l'âge, il s'expliquera lui-même.»
22 These things said his parents, because they were afraid of the Jews, for already had the Jews agreed together, that if any one may confess him — Christ, he may be put out of the synagogue;
Ses parents dirent cela, parce qu'ils craignaient les Juifs; car ceux-ci s'étaient déjà concertés pour faire chasser de la synagogue quiconque reconnaîtrait Jésus pour le Messie.
23 because of this his parents said — 'He is of age, ask him.'
C'est pour cela que ses parents dirent: «Il a de l'âge, interrogez-le.»
24 They called, therefore, a second time the man who was blind, and they said to him, 'Give glory to God, we have known that this man is a sinner;'
Les pharisiens tirent venir une seconde fois l'homme qui avait été aveugle, et lui dirent: «Donne gloire à Dieu: nous savons que cet homme est un méchant.»
25 he answered, therefore, and said, 'If he be a sinner — I have not known, one thing I have known, that, being blind, now I see.'
Il répondit: «Si c'est un méchant, je l'ignore; je ne sais qu'une chose, c'est que j'étais aveugle et qu'à cette heure je vois.»
26 And they said to him again, 'What did he to thee? how did he open thine eyes?'
Ils lui dirent: «Que t'a-t-il fait? Comment t'a-t-il ouvert les yeux?»
27 He answered them, 'I told you already, and ye did not hear; why again do ye wish to hear? do ye also wish to become his disciples?'
— «Je vous l'ai déjà dit, leur répliqua-t-il, et vous n'avez pas écouté; pourquoi voulez-vous l'entendre encore une fois? Est-ce que vous voulez devenir aussi ses disciples?»
28 They reviled him, therefore, and said, 'Thou art his disciple, and we are Moses' disciples;
Ils l'injurièrent et lui dirent: «C'est toi qui es disciple de cet homme; pour nous, nous sommes disciples de Moïse.
29 we have known that God hath spoken to Moses, but this one — we have not known whence he is.'
Nous savons que Dieu a parlé à Moïse; mais pour celui-ci, nous ne savons d'où il est.»
30 The man answered and said to them, 'Why, in this is a wonderful thing, that ye have not known whence he is, and he opened my eyes!
Cet homme répondit et leur dit: «C'est une chose étrange que vous ne sachiez d'où il est; et pourtant il m'a ouvert les yeux.
31 and we have known that God doth not hear sinners, but, if any one may be a worshipper of God, and may do His will, him He doth hear;
Nous savons que Dieu n'exauce point les méchants; mais si quelqu'un est pieux et fait sa volonté, c'est celui-là qu'il exauce.
32 from the age it was not heard, that any one did open eyes of one who hath been born blind; (aiōn g165)
Jamais on n'a entendu dire que quelqu'un ait ouvert les yeux d'un aveugle-né; (aiōn g165)
33 if this one were not from God, he were not able to do anything.'
si cet homme ne venait pas de Dieu, il ne pourrait rien faire de pareil.»
34 They answered and said to him, 'In sins thou wast born altogether, and thou dost teach us!' and they cast him forth without.
Ils lui dirent: «Tu es né tout entier dans le péché, et tu te mêles de nous faire des leçons!» Et ils le chassèrent.
35 Jesus heard that they cast him forth without, and having found him, he said to him, 'Dost thou believe in the Son of God?'
Jésus apprit qu'on l'avait chassé, et, l'ayant rencontré, il lui dit: «Tu crois, toi, au Fils de Dieu?»
36 he answered and said, 'Who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?'
Cet homme répondit: «Et qui est-il, Seigneur, afin que je croie en lui?»
37 And Jesus said to him, 'Thou hast both seen him, and he who is speaking with thee is he;'
— «Tu le vois, lui dit Jésus, et c'est lui-même qui te parle.»
38 and he said, 'I believe, sir,' and bowed before him.
— «Je crois, Seigneur, » dit-il alors, et il se prosterna devant lui.
39 And Jesus said, 'For judgment I to this world did come, that those not seeing may see, and those seeing may become blind.'
Jésus ajouta: «Je suis venu dans ce monde pour un jugement, pour que ceux qui ne voient pas, voient, et que ceux qui voient deviennent aveugles.»
40 And those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and they said to him, 'Are we also blind?'
Les pharisiens qui étaient auprès de lui, entendirent cette parole, et lui dirent: «Et nous, sommes- nous aussi aveugles?»
41 Jesus said to them, 'If ye were blind, ye were not having had sin, but now ye say — We see, therefore doth your sin remain.
Jésus leur dit: «Si vous étiez aveugles, vous seriez sans péché; mais puisque vous dites, «nous voyons, » votre péché subsiste.»
