Galatians 4
1 But Y seie, as long tyme as the eir is a litil child, he dyuersith no thing fro a seruaunt, whanne he is lord of alle thingis;
Deixem-me esclarecer o que quero dizer. Um herdeiro que é menor de idade não é diferente de um escravo, embora o herdeiro possa vir a ser o dono de tudo.
2 but he is vndur keperis and tutoris, in to the tyme determyned of the fadir.
Um herdeiro está sujeito aos guardiões e aos administradores, até o momento determinado por seu pai.
3 So we, whanne we weren litle children, we serueden vndur the elementis of the world.
O mesmo acontece conosco. Quando éramos crianças, estávamos sujeitos às regras básicas da lei.
4 But aftir that the fulfilling of tyme cam, God sente his sone,
Mas, no momento apropriado, Deus enviou o seu Filho, nascido de uma mulher e sob a regra da lei,
5 maad of a womman, maad vndur the lawe, that he schulde ayenbie hem that weren vndur the lawe, that we schulden vnderfonge the adopcioun of sones.
para que ele pudesse resgatar aqueles que eram mantidos sob o domínio da lei. Assim, pudemos nos tornar filhos adotados de Deus.
6 And for ye ben Goddis sones, God sente his spirit in to youre hertis, criynge, Abba, fadir.
Deus, para lhes mostrar como vocês são filhos dele, enviou o Espírito do seu Filho para nos convencer e nos fazer chamar: “Aba”, que significa “Pai.”
7 And so ther is not now a seruaunt, but a sone; and if he is a sone, he is an eir bi God.
Por isso, vocês não são mais escravos, porém, filhos. E se vocês são seus filhos, então, Deus os tornou seus herdeiros.
8 But thanne ye vnknowynge God, serueden to hem that in kynde weren not goddis.
Na época em que vocês não conheciam a Deus, vocês eram escravizados pelos supostos “deuses” deste mundo.
9 But now whanne ye han knowe God, and ben knowun of God, hou ben ye turned eftsoone to the febil and nedi elementis, to the whiche ye wolen eft serue?
Mas, agora, vocês conhecem a Deus, ou melhor, são conhecidos por Deus. Então, como podem voltar para aquelas regras fracas e pobres? Vocês querem ser, mais uma vez, escravos daquelas regras?
10 Ye taken kepe to daies, and monethis, and tymes, and yeris.
Por que vocês dão tanta importância a certos dias e meses, estações e anos especiais.
11 But Y drede you, lest without cause Y haue trauelid among you.
Eu estou preocupado com o fato de que tudo que eu tenha feito por vocês se perca!
12 Be ye as Y, for Y am as ye. Britheren, Y biseche you, ye han hurt me no thing.
Meus irmãos e irmãs, eu lhes imploro: sejam como eu, pois eu me tornei como vocês. Vocês nunca me trataram mal.
13 But ye knowen, that bi infirmyte of fleisch Y haue prechid to you now bifore;
Vocês se lembram que foi por eu estar doente que consegui anunciar-lhes o evangelho de Jesus, em minha primeira visita?
14 and ye dispiseden not, nether forsoken youre temptacioun in my fleisch, but ye resseyueden me as an aungel of God, as `Crist Jhesu.
Embora a minha saúde tenha lhes dado muito trabalho, vocês não me desprezaram e muito menos me rejeitaram. Na verdade, fui tratado por vocês como um anjo de Deus. Posso até dizer que me trataram como ao próprio Cristo Jesus.
15 Where thanne is youre blessyng? For Y bere you witnesse, that if it myyte haue be don. ye wolden haue put out youre iyen, and haue yyuen hem to me.
Então, o que aconteceu com toda aquela gratidão que vocês demonstraram? Eu lhes digo que, naquela época, se vocês pudessem tirar os seus olhos e dá-los para mim, teriam feito isso.
16 Am Y thanne maad an enemye to you, seiynge to you the sothe?
Então, o que aconteceu? Por acaso, eu me tornei inimigo de vocês, por lhes ter dito a verdade?
17 Thei louen not you wel, but thei wolen exclude you, that ye suen hem.
Essas pessoas estão interessadas em ganhar o apoio de vocês, mas não por bons motivos. Pelo contrário, elas querem mantê-los afastados de nós, para que vocês as apoiem com toda a sua disposição.
18 But sue ye the good euermore in good, and not oneli whanne Y am present with you.
É claro que é bom querer fazer o bem. Mas isso deveria acontecer sempre, em qualquer situação, e não apenas quando estou aí com vocês!
19 My smale children, whiche Y bere eftsoones, til that Crist be fourmed in you,
Meus queridos filhos, eu realmente quero trabalhar com vocês, até que a natureza de Cristo faça parte de vocês.
20 and Y wolde now be at you, and chaunge my vois, for Y am confoundid among you.
Eu realmente desejaria poder estar com vocês neste momento, pois, assim, certamente mudaria o meu tom de voz. Eu estou muito preocupado com vocês!
21 Seie to me, ye that wolen be vndir the lawe, `han ye not red the lawe?
Respondam-me isto, vocês que desejam viver sob o domínio da lei: Vocês não ouvem o que a lei diz?
22 For it is writun, that Abraham hadde two sones, oon of a seruaunt, and oon of a fre womman.
Como está escrito nas Sagradas Escrituras, Abraão teve dois filhos, um de uma escrava, e outro, de uma mulher livre.
23 But he that was of the seruaunt, was borun after the flesh; but he that was of the fre womman, by a biheeste.
No entanto, o filho da escrava nasceu de acordo com um plano feito pela mente humana, enquanto que o filho da mulher livre nasceu como o resultado da promessa divina.
24 The whiche thingis ben seid bi an othir vndirstonding. For these ben two testamentis; oon in the hille of Synai, gendringe in to seruage, which is Agar.
Assim, temos uma analogia em relação a isso: essas duas mulheres representam dois acordos. Um acordo é aquele do monte Sinai, representado por Agar. Dela nasceram filhos para a escravidão.
25 For Syna is an hille that is in Arabie, which hille is ioyned to it that is now Jerusalem, and seruith with hir children.
Agar simboliza o monte Sinai, na Arábia, que corresponde à atual Jerusalém, pois ela se encontra escravizada junto com os seus filhos.
26 But that Jerusalem that is aboue, is fre, whiche is oure modir.
Mas, a Jerusalém celestial é livre. Ela é a nossa mãe.
27 For it is writun, Be glad, thou bareyn, that berist not; breke out and crye, that bringist forth no children; for many sones ben of hir that is left of hir hosebonde, more than of hir that hath an hosebonde.
Como está escrito nas Sagradas Escrituras: “Alegrem-se vocês que não têm filhos e que nunca deram à luz! Gritem de alegria, vocês que nunca entraram em trabalho de parto, pois a mulher abandonada tem mais filhos do que a mulher que mora com o marido!”
28 For, britheren, we ben sones of biheeste aftir Isaac;
Agora, meus irmãos, somos os filhos da promessa, exatamente como Isaque.
29 but now as this that was borun after the fleisch pursuede him that was aftir the spirit, so now.
No entanto, assim como aquele que nasceu de acordo com um plano humano perseguiu aquele que nasceu por meio do Espírito, o mesmo acontece hoje.
30 But what seith the scripture? Caste out the seruaunt and hir sone, for the sone of the seruaunt schal not be eir with the sone of the fre wijf.
Mas, o que as Sagradas Escrituras dizem? “Mande embora a escrava e o seu filho, pois o filho da escrava não será herdeiro, ao contrário do filho da mulher livre.”
31 And so, britheren, we ben not sones of the seruaunt, but of the fre wijf, bi which fredom Crist hath maad vs fre.
Portanto, meus amigos, nós não somos filhos de uma escrava, mas da mulher livre.
