Luke 23
1 Then they all rose up and led Him to Pilate.
Y todo el concilio lo llevó donde Pilato.
2 And they began to accuse Him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbiding to give tribute to Cesar; saying, that He himself is Christ the king.
Allí comenzaron a acusarlo. “Encontramos a este hombre engañando a nuestra nación, diciéndole a la gente que no pagara los impuestos al César, y declarándose a sí mismo como el Mesías, como un rey”, dijeron.
3 And Pilate asked Him, saying, Art thou the king of the Jews? And He answered him and said, I am as thou sayest.
“¿Eres tú el Rey de los judíos?” le preguntó Pilato. “Tú lo has dicho”, respondió Jesús.
4 But Pilate said to the chief priests, and to the people, I find nothing criminal in this man.
Entonces Pilato le dijo a los jefes de los sacerdotes y a las multitudes: “Yo no encuentro a este hombre culpable de ningún crimen”.
5 Then they were more vehement, saying, He stirreth up the people to sedition, spreading his doctrine throughout all Judea: having begun at Galilee and come even to this place.
Pero ellos insistieron, diciendo: “Está incitando una rebelión por toda Judea con sus enseñanzas, desde Galilea hasta aquí en Jerusalén”.
6 Now when Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked, if the man were a Galilean:
Cuando escuchó esto, Pilato preguntó: “¿Es galileo este hombre?”
7 and understanding that He was of Herod's jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also at Jerusalem at that time.
Cuando descubrió que Jesús venía de la jurisdicción de Herodes, lo envió donde Herodes, quien también estaba en Jerusalén en ese momento.
8 And Herod, when he saw Jesus, was very glad; for he had of a long time been desirous to see Him, because he had heard much of Him, and he hoped to see some miracle wrought by Him.
Herodes estaba complacido de ver a Jesús pues hacía mucho tiempo había querido conocerlo. Había oído de él y esperaba verlo hacer algún milagro.
9 And he asked Him many questions; but He answered him nothing:
Entonces le hizo muchas preguntas a Jesús, pero Jesús no respondió nada en absoluto.
10 though the chief priests and scribes stood vehemently accusing Him.
Los jefes de los sacerdotes y los maestros religiosos estaban allí, acusándolo con rabia.
11 But Herod with his soldiers set Him at nought and insulted Him, and put on Him a gaudy robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.
Herodes y sus soldados trataron a Jesús con menosprecio y se burlaban de él. Colocaron una túnica real sobre él y lo enviaron de vuelta donde Pilato.
12 And on that same day Pilate and Herod became friends with each other: for before they were at enmity one with the other.
Desde ese día Herodes y Pilato se volvieron amigos, pues antes de ese día habían sido enemigos.
13 And Pilate called together the chief priests, and the rulers,
Pilato reunió a los jefes de los sacerdotes, a los líderes y al pueblo,
14 and the people, and said unto them, Ye have brought to me this man as one that perverteth the people: and behold I have examined Him before you, and found nothing chargeable on Him, of the things you alledge against Him:
y les dijo: “Ustedes trajeron a este hombre delante de mí, acusándolo de incitar al pueblo a la rebelión. Lo he examinado cuidadosamente delante de ustedes, y no lo encuentro culpable de los cargos que ustedes han presentado contra él.
15 nor Herod neither; for I sent you to him, and behold nothing worthy of death is proved upon Him.
Ni siquiera Herodes, pues lo envió de vuelta a nosotros. Él no ha hecho nada que requiera su muerte.
16 I will therefore chastise Him, and so release Him.
Así que lo mandaré a azotar y luego lo dejaré en libertad”.
17 Now he was obliged to release one to them at the feast.
18 And they all cried out, saying, Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas:
Pero ellos gritaron todos a la vez: “Mata a este hombre, y suéltanos a Barrabás”.
19 (who for a riot in the city, and for murder, was committed to prison: )
(Barrabás había sido encarcelado por haber tenido parte en una rebelión en la ciudad, y por asesinato).
20 Pilate therefore spake to them again, being desirous to release Jesus.
Pilato quería soltar a Jesús, así que habló con ellos de nuevo.
21 But they bawled out, saying, Crucify Him, crucify Him.
Pero ellos seguían gritando: “¡Crucifícalo! ¡Crucifícalo!”
22 And he said to them a third time, what evil hath He done? I have found nothing in Him deserving death: I will therefore chastise Him, and let Him go.
Pilato les preguntó por tercera vez: “¿Por qué? ¿Qué crimen ha cometido él? No encuentro ninguna razón para ejecutarlo. Así que lo mandaré a azotar y luego lo dejaré en libertad”.
23 But they insisted upon it with loud clamours, demanding Him to be crucified: and their voices and those of the chief priests prevailed.
Pero ellos insistieron con gritos, exigiendo que fuera crucificado. Sus gritos surtieron efecto,
24 So Pilate gave sentence that what they demanded should be done.
y Pilato dio la sentencia que ellos exigían.
25 And he released to them him that for sedition and murder had been cast into prison, whom they desired; and delivered up Jesus to their will.
Entonces liberó al hombre que estaba encarcelado por rebelión y asesinato, pero mandó a matar a Jesús conforme a las exigencias de ellos.
26 And when they led Him away, they laid hold on one Simon a Cyrenean coming out of the country, and put the cross on him to bear it behind Jesus.
Mientras los soldados se lo llevaban, agarraron a un hombre llamado Simón, de Cirene, quien venía del campo. Pusieron la cruz sobre él y lo hicieron cargarla detrás de Jesús.
27 And there followed Him a great multitude of people, and of women, who also bewailed and lamented Him: but Jesus turning to them said,
Una gran multitud lo seguía, junto con las mujeres que se lamentaban y lloraban por él.
28 Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
Jesús se dio vuelta hacia ellas y les dijo: “Hijas de Jerusalén, no lloren por mí. Lloren por ustedes mismas y sus hijos.
29 For behold the days are coming in which they shall say, happy are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the breasts that never gave suck.
Porque viene el tiempo cuando dirán: ‘Felices las que no tiene hijos, y las que nunca tuvieron bebés, y las que nunca amamantaron’.
30 Then shall they say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us:
Y dirán a las montañas: ‘Caigan sobre nosotros,’ y a las colinas, ‘entiérrennos’.
31 for if they do these things to the green wood, what shall be done to the dry?
Porque si hacen esto con el árbol que está verde, ¿qué sucederá cuando el árbol esté seco?”
32 And there were also two other malefactors led with Him to be put to death.
Y también llevaron a otros dos que eran criminales para ejecutarlos con él.
33 And when they were come to the place which is called Calvary, there they crucified Him and the malefactors: one on his right hand and the other on his left.
Cuando llegaron al lugar llamado la Calavera, lo crucificaron junto con los criminales, uno a su derecha y el otro a su izquierda.
34 And Jesus said, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his garments, and cast lots for them.
Luego Jesús dijo: “Padre, por favor, perdónalos porque no saben lo que hacen”. Y ellos dividieron su ropa, lanzando el dado sobre ella.
35 And the people stood looking on, and even the rulers also with them derided Him, saying, He saved others, let Him save Himself, if He be the Christ the chosen of God.
La gente estaba allí y miraba, y los líderes se burlaban de Jesús: “Salvó a otros, entonces que se salve a sí mismo si es realmente el Mesías de Dios, el Escogido”, decían.
36 And the soldiers too insulted Him, coming to Him and offering Him vinegar, saying,
Los soldados también se burlaban de él, viniendo a ofrecerle vinagre de vino, y diciendo:
37 If thou art the king of the Jews, save thyself.
“Si eres el Rey de los judíos, entonces sálvate a ti mismo”.
38 And there was a superscription written over Him in Greek, and Latin and Hebrew letters, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Y sobre Jesús había un cartel sobre el cual estaba escrito: “Este es el Rey de los Judíos”.
39 And one of the malefactors that were executed with Him reviled Him, saying, If thou be the Messiah, save thyself and us.
Uno de los criminales que estaba colgado allí se unió a sus insultos. “¿No eres tú el Mesías?” le dijo. “¡Entonces sálvate a ti mismo, y a nosotros también!”
40 But the other answered and rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God neither, when thou thyself art in the same condemnation?
Pero el otro criminal no estaba de acuerdo y discutía con él: “¿No respetas a Dios ni siquiera cuando estás sufriendo el mismo castigo?” le preguntó.
41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due rewards of our deeds, but this man hath done nothing amiss.
“Para nosotros esta sentencia es justa porque estamos siendo castigados por lo que hicimos, pero este hombre no hizo nada malo”.
42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
Entonces dijo: “Jesús, por favor, acuérdate de mí cuando entres a tu reino”.
43 And Jesus answered him, I assure thee, thou shalt be with me this day in paradise.
Jesús respondió: “Te prometo hoy que estarás conmigo en el paraíso”.
44 Now it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land till the ninth hour.
Para esta hora ya era medio día y una oscuridad cubrió toda la tierra hasta las tres de la tarde.
45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.
La luz del sol se apagó, y el velo del Templo se rasgó en dos.
46 And Jesus cried with a loud voice and said, Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit. And when He had said thus, He expired.
Luego Jesús exclamó a gran voz: “Padre, dejo mi espíritu en tus manos”. Y habiendo dicho esto, expiró su último aliento.
47 And when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this man was righteous.
Cuando el centurión vio lo que había ocurrido, alabó a Dios y dijo: “Sin duda alguna este hombre era inocente”.
48 And all the multitudes that came together to this affecting sight, seeing what happened, smote on their breasts and returned.
Y cuando las multitudes que habían venido a ver a Jesús vieron lo que sucedió, se fueron a sus casas afligidos y dándose golpes en el pecho.
49 And all his acquaintance stood at a distance, and the women that followed Him from Galilee, beholding these things.
Pero los que conocían a Jesús, incluyendo las mujeres que lo habían seguido desde Galilea, observaban a la distancia.
50 And behold there was a man of Arimathea, a city of the Jews, named Joseph, a counsellor, a good man and a just:
Y había allí un hombre llamado José. Él era miembro del concilio,
51 (who had not consented to their counsel nor their action; and who was also himself in expectation of the kingdom of God: )
pero no había estado de acuerdo con sus decisiones y acciones. Este hombre venía de la ciudad judía de Arimatea, y estaba esperando con ansias el reino de Dios.
52 he came to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus:
José fue donde Pilato y le pidió el cuerpo de Jesús.
53 and he took it down and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre hewn in stone, where no one had ever yet been laid.
Cuando lo bajó, lo envolvió en tela de lino. Puso a Jesús en una tumba que no había sido usada, y que había sido cortada de una roca.
54 Now that day was the preparation, and the sabbath was coming on:
Y era el día de la preparación y el sábado comenzaría pronto.
55 wherefore the women, that came with Him from Galilee, followed Joseph, and saw the sepulchre, and how the body was laid:
Las mujeres que habían venido con Jesús desde Galilea siguieron a José y vieron dónde había sido puesto el cuerpo de Jesús.
56 but returned and prepared spices and perfumes; and then rested on the sabbath-day, according to the commandment.
Luego regresaron y prepararon especias y ungüentos. Pero el sábado descansaron, guardando el mandamiento.
